@@jasonball3496 when you grab a crystal at the end of every palace in this game it automatically fills your experience to the max for your next experienc cap. Meaning if you grab it with 10/500 it will give you 490 exp but if you grab it at 490/500 it will give you 10 exp. So when you are 10exp away it makes more sense to farm for 10 exp before you grab the crystal since grabbing the crystal is basically a free level up. Hopefully that makes sense.

@@jasonball3496 When you put a crystal into its pedestal at the end of a temple, you get a full level. This means if he did it with 10 exp left, he would gain 10 exp. If you do it with 8000 exp left, you gain 8000 exp. It would be a huge waste to not just go kill 5 blobs before setting it.

Also, having a second pair of eyes meant seeing some details a lone person would miss. Or ask questions that you didn't think of. Watching this stream, I noticed some things Poo didn't, because he was looking at other things at the time.

Finishing a dungeon finishes off your level. A strat speed runners use is to level, say, sword up very high and keeping the others low. Then before you finish a dungeon, grind up enough experience so you go past your lowest stats so that when you get the end of dungeon bonus, you get thousands of experience.

It definitely does not hold your hand. It's difficult and rewarding... But at the time games were like this. People were very critical of it since it's not like the first at all. Now when you compare all games in the series it's nothing like any of them so it gets a bad rap. But what made BotW so good to me is it didn't really hold your hand and it was relatively difficult in the beginning. If people gave this game a chance I think it would be much more loved. I like games that are more difficult. This game scared me when I was eight years old and Gannon would laugh at you.... Ugh....
@QueirozVini
@QueirozVini 5 жыл бұрын
Not just death mountain... But the fact that you have to go through a dark cave to get the candle is just counter-intuitive and nonsense. Also, there is simply no way to know if you can use a magic power or not, since the cost in numbers is not intuitive at all to convert to bars, which is the only feedback you have. And this is only from this first video. There is some other odd stuff later in the game. And most other games released before this one (including the first LoZ) didn't present these flaws. These are some basic game design stuff. I'm not even discussing the difficulty curve, as it was standard at that time; or the random encounters as it was just an (failed) experiment - imho. But really, it's a very good game, and highly underrated. Consider it a much less forgiving 2D retro Dark Souls, ignore the design flaws, and you'll have a blast!

@larstallinger6795
@larstallinger6795 5 жыл бұрын
He went straight to death mountain. Personally I usually also go for death mountain myself because it is the path to the down stab which makes the game so much more playable. He of course had no idea what he was doing but I do it on purpose. Also, I was so sad when turned back from the red axe guy the first time. To make it worse he needs to get past one to get the actual hammer too so he needs to learn how to handle them or how to avoid them. Still enjoyed the watch though. The Midoro swamp place with the power glove is actually the Midoro swamp palace. The second palace. It has a funny trap in a lava floor room that will most likely catch him unaware too.

@@caesaria If he knew what he was doing he could have taken the right path after death mountain. As long as he saves two jump spells for the bridge he can get over it and reach the 4th town which has the down stab. Axe men have no head protection so you can kill them a lot easier or just bounce past them. It takes a bit of extra time but nothing compared to beating death mountain over and over. I said it in another comment here but the biggest difficulty in the game is not knowing the terrain.
@RichFreeman

I think he would have had an easier time of death mountain if he didn't keep skipping level ups. It can make sense to do that, but not if you grab a bunch of p bags and then game over three times at 700/800 xp or whatever. It is like weakest link, sometimes the smart move is to bank it...

How being a practiced speed running a disadvantage? Practiced speed runners don't pick up a random game and blase through it cold. They play though a game normally many times to learn how to play it fast by taking the optimal route and memorizing enemy attack patterns. It is also why speed run records have notes on optional power ups they grabbed.

Death Mountain is the worst part of the game. I feel like it gets way better after you get past it, but my god. It is way too hard for something so early on. Go back into that cave west of the exit of the maze with those statues and that impossible axe guy. That gives you a shortcut from the entrance to the rest of the world, making the game way more playable. Plus it gives you secrets and stuff. And...I feel like you should have the downward thrust already? It's in one of the towns. I think it requires using the Jump spell to reach a door on a ceiling, or going down a chimney, or something.

I love this game, but it is incredibly frustrating, mainly because of two things. If they had changed those two aspects, the game would be SO much improved: 1. When you game over, you don't lose all your exp. 2. When you game over, you don't start all the way back at the starting palace. Actually, if they just got rid of the stupid extra life/game over system, and just have you start back at the beginning of a cave/palace when you die, that would solve both. That's actually how I play it now. I beat it a year or so ago on the 3DS virtual console and just would save state when entering a palace or cave. If I game over'd, I'd just reset the save state back to the beginning of the palace. I don't have time for all that backtracking and grinding.

Get yourself in a narrow passage way like you were under, with just a little room for a small jump, and just jump towards him and slash at his head. Back up after each blow if you need to avoid taking damage. A lot quicker than trying to outmaneuver each other's shield.

I've been waiting for this to show up on KZbin. After giving this game another shot since its Switch release, I've come to ADORE it. It's such a rewarding game and there really isn't much RNG to worry about. All combat is 100% skill based and the strategies you develop to deal with enemies will determine how well you will do in this game. It's so good. Also, I had no Idea you could keep talking to the purple bot and he would tell you where to find Bagu. That's another thing that I think people give this game crap for that it doesn't deserve. Yes, there is lots of hidden stuff that you wonder how you're supposed to know, but the game does give you a hint for everything. It really teaches you to talk to everyone. Poo: I'm just going to keep heading right, until it dead ends me I guess Me: You can be so lucky sometimes, haha. That's the fastest route through Death Mountain

@@bfish89ryuhayabusa all im saying is that type of stuff doesnt hold up today. It shouldnt require multiple people to figure out a HINT, its a singleplayer game. Not trying to argue, just stating my thoughts

@@magmatic8445 Actually, I think I was wrong. Zelda 1 was intended to incite discussion, not 2. After watching the rest of this playthrough, I realized that the hints in Zelda 2 are actually much more straightforward than I remembered.

One of the things I noticed at the beginning is he was told to go 'west' to get the candle, but had to go east. In some of the old school RPGs at the time (Castlevania 2 did this too) sometimes the NPCs will lie to you in order to get you hemmed up.
@leadbones

The hint actually said to get the candle, then go West. It was just more bad translation.

@@leadbones You're probably right. I do know in Castlevania 2 the manual straight up said some 'hints' are meant to be lies, misinformation, ect. I always assumed Zelda 2 did the same.

Few tips: Respawning enemies are your friends. Not the ones that keep appearing and give you no points but the ones that come back when you scroll past their area and come back. Those little red and blue blobs for example. Every sixth enemy you kill will always drop either a Magic Jar or a bag of points. You need this tactic later to keep that magic meter full.Level up everything as soon as you can. Even if you feel like you don't need it, you will. And your points go back to zero when you die so use them if you got them.After getting Down Thrust it will get easier, but you will die. When that does happen go through Death Mountain again every time you start up. The more points the better.And finally you will find three Link Dolls in this game that act as extra guys. One is inside one of the Palaces but the other two don't get until you head to the final Palace. You will need them. Otherwise have fun.

@ogeid nomar I actually found the other three since doing this post. Also, I get the item but not beat the boss. After everything is all the way leveled up, go back to the first Palace. Every Crystal you return is an automatic level up, and if your levels are maxed out, that's an extra guy. So with the 6 Link dolls and the 6 Palaces that's 12 extra guys before you get to the final Palace.

Aaah I love this. Obviously I struggled with "how do i do dark cave without candle???" and went immediately to a guide and cheesed the hell out of everything for the rest of the game, but it's really lovely to see someone give it a proper go, at nowhere near the anger and shittiness levels that I went at it with.
