I only saw Studer onstage a few times in New York. She gives an outstanding rendition here of Elsa’s narrative. There was a time where Studer was in every recording, no matter the composer or role-demands, and I think she simply sang too much, without having a core repertoire she could fall back on.

Ein richtig Offenes Singen... Und ein 3-Dimensionales Singen ( wie es Cheryll Studer in Ihren Meisterklassen nennt). Toll singt dies auch Pilar Lorengar, wie ein Engel und Eszter Sümegi mit der richtigen Mischung aus Erdung und Höhenfärbung der Töne.

Sadly her voice deteriorated after her prime years and now she sings only rarely.

she had to take a leap of absence due to damaged vocal chords and she comes back and sings Wagner? wonderful to listen to yes, but not a smart career move

raigekimaru it's hilarious when people think KZbin videos are like TV and are broadcasting recent concerts. Also when people talk to the stars directly through KZbin (I.e use the second person rather than the first person) I realise I'm 7 years too late on this. Haha. Superb live recording. Not sure who at the moment we have of commensurate quality in the lighter Wagner roles - I.e youth and power.

This was recorded BEFORE that period, she was perfect for lyric Wagner and Strauss should not have wasted her talents on Italian roles for which she was less suitable.
