Wagner himself wrote his own libretto, didn't he? He was so multi-talented. I love these words sang by Lohengrin: "Nun sei bedankt, mein lieber Schwan! Drum sei getreu dein Dienst getan! Leb wohl, leb wohl, mein lieber Schwan!"

Besides Amara, Studer has the gleam in her voice which aptly fits this character. Those two singers demonstrated strength in the voice which reflected the faith of Elsa. The gleam in their voices demonstrated the character's hope. Brava!

I was lucky and I experienced an acceptable production of Lohengrin with great singers in 2005. The Festspielhaus and it's surroundings are wonderful! But unfortunately the quality of the more recent productions have seriously deteriorated 😮 I am not at all against modern interpreations, if they make sense and if they are compatible with Wagner's music. Werner Herzog is a director who loves and understands music. Music has always been a very important part of his movies. But many directors just want to produce cheap shock effects and they have no antennas for Wagner's music. Last year's Ring Of The Nibelungs (2022) was such a disaster that it has been seriouly contemplated to shelf it after just one season. What happened on stage had nothing to do with Wagner's texts and music anymore. Katharina Wagner is clearly not up to the job! It's simply not enough to be named Wagner!

Tears to my eyes as well. This Scene proves what a demanding modern Interpretation should be about. It works with the technical devices of nowadays and still clings to Wagner's conception.
