We have a farm in the UK running about 5 300hp JD 6R260’s and a bunch of other tractors, what we do is we pressure/power wash all the machinery every time they finish a field unless they are going back out so yes we do clean the fuel cap.

I always keep a bag of gatorwipes in the cab with me, for my hands and for things like the fuel cap and dipstick if needed. They also are great for wiping off the ends of pioneer fittings as well!! I personally think you may need to look at the seal on the cap, or maybe check to see if the tank is venting ok.

Always enjoy the content Grant-don't get too discouraged over the challenges around planting no-till it is just a different beast. That residue and moisture that is a problem now will be a great benefit if and when the rain shuts off during the growing season. I have done things both ways and each system has its own specific challenges but keep trying and learning! Thats the spirit of the American farmer!

You should Invest in Precision Plantings “Delta Force” its ran of an air compressor that you mount on your planter. An air line runs to each row of the planter and you can adjust the down pressure of the row cleaners from the cab as your planting.

Nice video Grant, glad to see you are coming along very well. As far as the dirt buildup on the fuel neck, you could buy a small cheap hand broom and put a string through the handle to just hang it around the fuel neck, that way it's always there for when you need to fuel. May want to check the o-ring on your fuel cap also.

Keep a rag @ your fuel tank & use it to clean off your fuel cap on the tractor or combine. Anytime it rains the rag will get a free wash lol. That's what I do. I slowly take the cap off & tap it on something to get any other dirt off. As others have said, your fuel filters will catch anything else.

I've been farming my hole life instead of lowering your trash wipers give the planter units more down pressure ane drive a little slower you will plant perfectly and your trenches aren't closing because it's a little to wet in beans you don't want your trash wipers digging remember that you have to combine this fall and you will have your header on the ground

Super newbie here!! So if the burned acres are going to produce better than the non burned acres, why not burn the fields every fall/winter?? Thank goodness I have an awesome tenant helping me learn. 😊

Have you looked into regenerative agriculture and permaculture? You can exponentially increase your crop yields by increasing organic matter in the soil without ever using fertilizer and minimal pesticide use. The only thing permaculture requires is building the initial infrastructure of the soil. Then the farm becomes a self sustaining system only requiring some removal of invasive weeds. But after the farm establishes, weeding becomes less and less frequent over the years. No till farming also increases soil life and generates beneficial microbes along with increasing water retention capacity. Reducing the effects of drought and flash flooding. Permaculture and Silvio-pasture farming also can sequester huge quantities of CO2 reversing climate change. The carbon sequestration potential of the farm can also be sold off as carbon credits. Lots of companies are looking to purchase carbon credits to meet environmental goals for activities they can’t reduce themselves such as flying. Those carbon credits can generate a sizable passive income letting nature do its thing, requiring essentially no work. Using permaculture also diversifies income streams securing self independence. Diversified crop streams also can lead to greater personal financial security. So that during some especially dry or wet years bad harvests for some crops will allow other crops to thrive. Which reduces dependence on crop insurance which can be extremely expensive. Pepsi Co and General Mills have been investing billions of dollars into regenerative agriculture. Large industrialized companies such as Monsanto continually sell products that say require copious amounts of fertilizer but in reality don’t need it. A lot of the big farming companies are owned by petrol/chemical companies always trying to push products onto consumers. When in reality a large portion of the products are not needed. The product’s labeling is a ruse to make profit at the expense or farmers and your crop land. Adding industrial fertilizer annually year after year destroys the health of soil. Perpetuating a cycle of needing ever more amounts of fertilizer to maintain yields. Continually adding fertilizer makes the soil caustic and acts as a detriment to the plants and soil microbes along with destroying your wallet. Not to mention the huge environmental impact it has. Industrial fertilizer is extremely carbon intensive as most of the minerals are mined from Australia or Asia. Then after the fertilizer is mined it has to be shipped across the world in trains, ships and trucks. I would also recommend using technology such as drones, AI, and sensors to detect dry areas or areas that may need a specific input. Instead of broadly applying inputs everywhere. Applying these technologies could potentially save you a lot of time and money. Here are some resources: Mark Shepard is a Big Permaculture advocate who has a decent size farm and has decades of experience to back his claims. KZbin also has tons of videos on permaculture systems that range from tiny urban farms to 100 acres or more. Edible Acres is another good KZbin resource on permaculture. Andrew Millison also is another good teaching resource. permacultureapprentice.com/top-5-quality-online-permaculture-resources/ regenerationinternational.org/2018/06/24/no-till-farming/ www.forestag.com/pages/mark-shepard 1:27:21Justin RhodesHow Mark Shephard's Farm THRIVES on Neglect (Extended Version)Jan 24, 2022 www.restorationag.com/team/mark-shepard/
