While Grant Pass is a tragedy and an embarrassment, is there a reason you ignore the homeless in the rest of Americas cities? As a subscriber, I am seeing only videos on this one place. I am also not seeing any advocacy that involves solutions. There is a lot to criticize here, but advocacy doesn't start and end with criticism.

@@415_Stand-up you don't deserve a response, but a 71 year old woman was swept over memorial weekend with 100 others, worked and paid taxes all her life, rents are too high, property values are overinflated, property taxes are also up in tandem, it's easy to target, because if you make yourself better and dehumanize in your reasoning, then you won't end up like that too, another woman her husband died, 25 years raising children, a house just burnt down near my mom's, 5 firefighters sent to the hospital, 15 homeless, lost everything, .... It comes down to your bank account, and literally nothing else, besides fleecing or take advantage or scam predators especially the vulnerable, 30 to 50 percent are seniors, besides Aunt B at a soup kitchen with a freshly released felon from prison

Don't hold your breath with this Supreme Court. If you look at the criminalization of homelessness just a thought is that one person in jail or prison is worth x amount. A free person is worth zero. It's far more profitable to institutionalize people than it is to help them. Sad fact but it is a fact. The only way out of this is for people to help people. Federal money thrown at cities to solve this issue should be used to purchase apartment buildings or build them and rent them out to these suffering souls.

I'm on disability and use section 8 to subsidize my rent, I'm worried that I'll be pushed out of the market and become homeless with the way things are going. Certain law makers are always calling for cuts to housing and food programs and some law makers are now openly proposing bills that either cut or sunset social security income which will make homeless worse because many of us, especially senior citizens, either have no family left to move in with or have family but can't take anyone in.

Ya know when I was homeless I lived in the woods behind a gas station with a group of about 15 others AND the sheriff knew we were back there because they came every day with 2 cases of water and what ever food they could get donated for us. Several of the officers who visited regularly complement us on how clean our camp was. It's because we kept our camp picked up and did the yard work daily. We hauled out our trash to the dumpster behind the gas station AFTER we got permission from the gas station owner to off load our trash there rather than carry it half a mile to the bus stop trash bins. I was only in the woods camp spot for approx 4 months b4 I found, through a friend, a safe back yard where my dog and myself could set up camp and be safe from attempts to break in the tents during work hours. I worked full time but wasn't making enough to afford an apartment or studio without it leaving me completely broke. How low can people go, well apparently low enough to make a homeless persons life miserable and degrading if they're willing to make a law requiring someone move every 3 days. Let them have to move house every 3 days and see how they like it. Love your videos. Keep reminding ppl that homeless ppl have feelings too and not all of them do drugs or drink either!

A Section 8 certificate used to be the golden ticket. I know because I was once on disability \ SSI and Section 8 for 18 years. Back when I was on Section 8, apartments in the run down low rent parts of Baltimore were plentiful. Everyplace that took Section 8 vouchers was pure ghetto but I had a roof over my head. BUT NOW in 2024 a Section 8 Voucher is not so much the golden ticket to housing it was in my day. Today it's possible to get a Section 8 voucher look for three months and find NOTHING available ANYWHERE for the fair market rent the voucher covers. Most apartments available today are luxury units that cost more and aren't Section 8 approved. Affordable housing is not Invisible, it's rare!

@@starrleesimmons4291 Are you saying homeless drug addicts and alcoholics don't exist. The narrative about homeless drug addicts and homeless alcoholics persists because there are enough loud obvious examples to re-enforce the stereotype. The problem with stereotypes is it only takes seeing one to confirm a harmful bias that may be incorrect. The homeless guy that looks like you is one of this channels true "Invisible People." The homeless people you see are the loud mouthed, obnoxious, aggressive panhandling dope addicts and drunks trying to score money. We had a subway station near my work. We used to call it "The Gauntlet" because to leave the station you had to endure the pleadings of 20 homeless beggars trying to get food, money or cigarettes from you. I figured out the best way to get through unscathed was to never make eye contact, keep moving, move fast with purpose, never walk a straight line, zig and zag, never answer any questions, wear a tight fitting thick leather jacket and don't wear loose fitting clothes. I found if you do what I just said enough the homeless don't even bother to try to confront you anymore. My coworkers marveled at the fact the homeless never harassed me at all. Lady office workers used to meet me on the train so they could walk through the gauntlet unmolested with me. In cities dealing with aggressive pan handlers you have to send that leave me alone, lone wolf vibe!

Their law makes ZERO sense. The major contributing factor for me to overcome homelessness was holding a job through the chaos. They are making it impossible for folks who want to work. There is no way to stay within a reasonable walking distance to maintain employment when they’re bouncing around like that. Also, to see so many elderly and handicapped people in tents is beyond disturbing. Not only do we need affordable housing, we also need special housing for those on social security and disability. They are the most vulnerable, these people need a safe and secure place to live. God bless the volunteers who come to help them. What amazes me is being someone with a severe disability as I have that I didn't know I had, I spent years volunteering my support to others I thought were in need including 'well off' people, until I realized that I was the one needing support. The epiphany was the strangest feeling when I suddenly realized that I was the one in need. I have lived with rich and poor, owned a home, been semihomeless both home and abroad. Been taken advantage of and helped. We get what we deserve and we don't get what we deserve, both in both contexts. There is so much irony and contradiction of thought in this world, but from my experience, I know that the woman helping the homeless will be repaid in full for her time and energy. The universal law of Principle such as sowing and reaping either for good or bad will always manifest.

The problem with "invisible people" is that they're all too visible--along with their tents, garbage, sewage, discarded needles, condoms, etc. Why should Grant's Pass be forced to lose its public parks? I applaud the city's efforts to resist the degradation of its public spaces.

Ennabling WHAT? Why are there still people who think homeless people are making any choices at all? If you are in a maze with ten dead ends and a 20ft drop with fire behind you. When you break a leg at the bottom, they tell you it was a bad choice.

I think Seniors should be given a deep discount on housing rentals etc. because for most seniors they are trying to survive on Social Security which is a percentage of your normal salary if you were still employed also this population pays out a lot on medical services after insurance

Also keep in mind that rent/utilities are so high that working a full time job just to barely pay rent and nothing else vs just going full homeless and devoting 100% of your time to full survival (even while still working that same job) seems much more viable and flexible unfortaunly.

If the man that said if you don't find an apartment within 6 months you lose your voucher. If he's talking about section 8 they will give extensions for you. I got 5 or 6 extensions and on the last month with a week left on my extension I was called for an apartment went and looked at it and took it and still living in it on my 3rd year. You have keep contacting the apartments you apply at while you're on their waiting list. One thing that isn't working are those so called mini homes you don't get to live in them for long then you go back to the streets and making people move from one park to another is stupid. The city needs to pay for the housing for each homeless person until they get an apartment with section 8.

I am aware. I came through a few months ago to see my childhood home. The Gospel Mission is helpful. I agree it’s a bit frustrating having to do forced bible studies that I don’t agree with. Even so, being homeless is brutal. It’s also getting crazy how costly it is to rent anywhere. Government implosion coming? Hopefully not… At least these people have things they are able to do to help.

$300 million would be spent on a stadium for a professional sports team owned by billionaires but nothing done to help people get a shelter with an address. Without a residence, it's extremely difficult to get hired. Many are missing IDs. They also don't like the shelters because they're grouped in with others, who commit crimes against them.

I am currently in limbo if I can stay where I have been renting at a reasonable rate for 22 years. I cannot even get a bedroom in someone's house right now for what I've been paying. Then yesterday someone hit my car. Not my fault. Yet it's an old car and insurance might write it off. I cannot get another car even half as good with what they will give me. I thought....if I become homeless, I'll be living in my car. Now I might not have a car either.

For buildings that were used as offices/commercial, the cost to renovate them up to modern housing codes is almost as much as starting from scratch with brand new construction. No developer is going to make a profit on that.

Can these disabled people not make a reasonable accommodation request with the city to help them move, given it's a city ordinance? Refusal may open them up to a lawsuit, given the physical and mental stress it places on people and their inability to comply. Disclaimer: I am not an attorney, just a disabled person who has had to work the system to get by.

I am so sad to see this. I know there homeless camps in the back alleys, in the wooded areas within my city. The city designates an area for a homeless camp and lets the people stay, until it is a rotten mess. What else could it be? Folks and their belongings ate pretty much stacked one of top of the other and the next and so on. Some are sick, I suspect m9st are unwell with one or other afliction. I imagine myself in the same situation, in a life so uncomfortable, cold, wet, sweltering hot, dirty, no privacy, the badics such as food, shelter and water always elusive. I would like to help as these kinds souls do.
