[Graphic] Fishing line cuts deep into seal's flesh

Two entanglements. Both are caused by fishing gear. Both seals are left with severe wounds.
The OCN team is at the Pelican Point hotspot. The first targeted seal struggles to walk with the amount of snoek line wrapped around his body. Kat and Wally carefully cut the snoek line from the seal's neck. A terrible wound is left behind. The second seal is also wrapped in fishing gear, a gillnet. The net has started cutting chunks from his body. We cannot imagine the amount of pain these animals were in. Both seals seem strong as they head to the water. Most of the entanglements we find originate from the fishing industry. 🦭

It's inspiring, too. I have no animals to rescue where I am, nor can I sprint - lol - but I am rescuing a neighbour kid who somehow is in his teens with Grade1 reading and writing - poorly. I have training in teaching, and they are thrilled with results so far. It's not a one-day fix, but I hope it works. I am not a speech-language pathologist, just an ESL teacher. But, hey, we are the world's most complex mammal, so I guess it counts as an animal rescue in a sense.

Seeing these terrible wounds of the beautiful seals it really makes me angry why animals must suffer because of the acting of the stupid human beings. People must learn that they are not the only ones on this planet and that they must also respect the animals. I hope the human beings will learn very fast before it is too late.

Just horrible, terrible wounds and suffering. We know it's very bad when, upon seeing the injury, the team members draw in a sharp breath. So so glad you spotted both these poor pups and were able to remove all that line and gill net. I do hope they recover. Thank you OCN!
