Antibiotics and septic yes, scissors are pointless when he has sharper stronger snips, scissors would just be a hazard pointy end for seal and him running... he was only using that because It was deep and he did it solo, only one hand.

wow all the ppl saying omg your knife is blunt or you should be carrying proper tools, it looks like this guy was just out on a kayaking trip and used what he had available when he found a tangled seal pup. also that line is very tough and meant to resist abrasion and you can see how he is trying to be as gentle as possible so he doesnt hurt the seal.

the situation was probably unplanned, so don't blame you for not having the right tool to do the job but damn, that must have hurt.... luckily these animals are pretty tough and it will survive the ordeal ! better some pain for a few minutes than suffering slow death !! many thanks for saving it !

Everybody is a damn critic. You did a great job. You were actually pretty gentle with the sawing motion instead of the quick pull that would definitely have yanked on his throat. You did not suffer a bite and the pup swam off into the sunset.

Oh my god this poor little baby is the most severe case I've seen he wasn't far from death I'm praying for him I sure hope he's all grown up by now. Whenever I go fishing and have to cut off some line before I put it in my pocket I cut it up into 3inch pieces so there's zero chance of any animal getting hurt even the seagulls at the garbage dump

Wow, there's a lot of people here in the comments missing the point. Have you considered that he might not be using the line cutter with the force it is meant to be used with? Hmm? Too hard for you to grasp? Why, do you think, it takes him so long? Because of a dull blade? Nope, as a spearfisher that carries a somewhat similar tool, I can tell that blade is plenty sharp, but maybe he just didn't want to cause the seal any more discomfort than necessary, that's why he's trying to slowly cut through the line, had you been a spearo and got stuck down there, you would've used a lot more force, you'd simply have ripped the cutter through whatever you were entangled in, but that's not really possible when you're trying to free a seal without injuring it any further. And, if saving seals was what he did, don't you think he would have invested in a Raptor? Perspective, people!
