I never thought I would ever watch an entire video about Superman, but I did!

Yay. I hope you’ll like my next one - it’s comic book related but is all about rock and roll.

Absolutely loved this video. So great to hear your thoughts on this, my favorite Superman comic. I appreciated that you gave it more time and all the editing you did to include the Quitely art. (When we did our group project the two guys assigned the bizarro issues really struggled.

Thank you! I will definitely finish watching the playlist and delve into some of your others. I’m sure that Bizarro issue had something to do with the Id, Ego and Superego since philosophy was alluded to multiple times (and there were three different Supermen on that. Pizarro world, so maybe it is worth exploring.

This was a wonderful review. I loved it. Having just recently procured my #1, I now have the whole series and am ready to do a reread. The art showcase and commentary were top notch. I'd love to chat comics with you.

Awesome review!!! Going to check the series out. I've been mainly getting sliver age Superman comics.

I love Silver age Supes and this series refers to those comics a lot.

Grant Morrison tried to distill not what Superman means (there's plenty of that), but to distill how amazing it is to have Superman around. The entire story is a fun romp through the world of Superman, without sacrificing his powers, and finding inventive uses for them. Sure, Superman can do anything, but how does he do it? That's what we have here. Quitely isn't the first to try to make Superman and Clark look different. Both Byrne's Man of Steel and Leinel Francis Yu's physical portrayal in Mark Waid's Birthright touch on how his parents helped him create the dual identity. Not everyone can do it, but there's a reason why Morrison likes working with Quitely, and it's how illustrative he is, finding the right angle for every situation.

Wonderful comments. I haven’t read Man of Steel since I was a teen, but I have the collection. I don’t think I have Birthright. I’ll try to read both. Quitely s use of space is remarkable.

Great format and thanks for the video. I'm not as high on this series but I did enjoy it. For the art, I primarily think of All-Star Superman for its use of gradients in coloring which the other comic to do that was Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.

I forgot to mention how the artist uses space, which I’ve seen a lot recently, so I wonder if this series was influential in that regard.

@@garagegeek4863 To use space in that way, printing technologies and ink coverage technologies needed to improve. That much space for backgrounds would not look good on newsprint paper in color.
