great instructor! I liked how he didn't let you fall or didn't take the submission to the point where you have to tap
@valetudo5307 жыл бұрын
It's important to go till the tap while actually training. It's how you let your drilling partner know the way they applied the submission was correct. I train a highschool girl and I always tell her to make me tap when allowing her to apply submissions on me. Positive reinforcement of the correct application.

Excellent video Shane, can you do one on how effective Muay Thai is against bjj, in particular wether the Muay Thai clinch is effective against bjj practitioners?
@pierrebridenne88705 жыл бұрын
Hi ! There are many judo throws and wrestling Gréco roman takedown to counter the Thaï Clinch. It depends the skill of the fighter, in MMA there are lots of throws and takedown that are not allowed in Muay Thaï rules, it's an other sport. In MMA heavy Weight the clinch and knee of Overeem are terrible. Wanderleï Silva had also good mma clinch.

I agree. Some people do multiple martial arts, but if people (for whatever reason) could only pick on martial art, I'd pick bjj. Sure some martial arts have strikes that can end it in an instant, but I've noticed that people who are very skilled in bjj are capable of dodging, blocking, or straight up catching a kick. Once they do that, they can get the other dude on the ground. Unfortunately for the other guy, his flashy kicks can't exactly be done with a guy mounting him (especially from behind).

This is the bjj I need in my life I still will learn ground but I want more non competition transition from striking to grappling type techniques.
@yuwmelon38687 жыл бұрын
thx for the excellent info. as a striker, the most worrying to in the video is the counter to the jab. u no. if the jab is not effective, most striking strategies are hard to pull off. But with my muay boran background, the right elbow after the jab seems to be the second line of defense bcos u cant double jab the bjj guy. actually, i tested the technique some time ago.
@marlon11716 жыл бұрын
Muay tai with grappling( wrestling, judo, jiujitsu)obvious winner. Although it’s not very common to see a great striker be just as good in grappling or vice versa, Daniel cormier is amazing example of being a very complete fighter, gsp aswell.....
@vamtheanomaly8 жыл бұрын
I always watch your videos Shane and can't wait to read the comments section from all the people that go, "Well I'm not gonna wrestle with them on the ground." People forget how quick distance can get closed and how slow your reaction can be to something if you aren't training against said reactions all the time. A great example is that movie with Leonardo DiCaprio in "Revnant". The character had a GUN and look how quick that bear closed in and got on top of him. Yes I know its a movie, but that's exactly how it is.

grew up street fighting. found a lot of Martial arts had been very unskilled in this kind of art. its an art if your good at it. you stand a better chance of keeping the distance like he shows and deflecting the punch while dodging using the elbow or forearm as your connection point. you get one chance at this so watch the timing and allow them to close the distance just a bit, you want them to feel like they can connect (baiting). once they throw your blocking will push them off balance, then you can go for a traditional take down. keep in mind in a street fight a quick head butt during shit talk mode, or a quick kick to the balls is the best way to stay healthy.

The skills of a fighter (boxe or BJJ) will make always the difference. Against a very good boxer it wouldn't end up in the same way. It's not so easy to catch someone skilled to keep the distance.

Although his technique is good and all I can't help but notice how on at least his first take down, that Shane's leg was in a great position for a groin kick, and if you're going at full speed, throwing them down would naturally cause the leg to fly up so just something to think about.
@justfell18 жыл бұрын
if they worry about kicking you instead of defending the takedown they're gonna get taken down anyway and choked out also at full speed ita harder to do
