I was there. Caught every show on this fall tour. One and only time I managed that feat. After exiting the second Miami show a week later, I realized two things: first, they would never get any better than this tour*, and second, that I had gotten all I was going to get out of the long, strange trip. Within a few weeks, I embarked on my own musical journey. More than three decades later, I'm still at it. Catch me with Prophecy at EDC Orlando this November. *- spring and summer 90 were pretty great too, and I did see a few shows, though my follow-them-around days were over. But as good as 90 was, they never exceeded the bar they set on this extraordinary fall tour in 89.

They were their best in the 80 s to me also ! They could play anything but when Brent was gone it went down hill as far as I’m concerned !

@@bunnybeckman8029 we were blessed to have been able to go to shows in the 80's, we saw the band at their (imo) very best in their 30+ yrs as a band..which logically it makes sense. Why wouldn't the be at the top of their game after playing together for such a while. Also I know that in those final few yrs of the 80's decade the whole Shakedown St scene was sadly coming to an end and again i am so grateful to have experienced the scene before the 90's and the inevitable changing of the times..Imo the 80's were a simpler, time, way more laid back..it was only 10 yrs removed from the 70's...where as the 90's was the infancy of the present time we are in..Thank God for The Grateful and that I was a teenager in the early 80's and not in 2010...

Fall 89' -spring 90. Pro time Dead. Ya, there's 70, 71, 74, and 77, but this string of shows stands as the best, imo, in terms of the dead at their full maturity and peak or power.
@redwoodcoaststudio16106 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I would add 68-69 to that list as well, and even 73, but NOTHING I've ever heard anywhere by anyone can touch fall 89-spring 90 Grateful Dead. LONG MAY THEY RUN!!

1970 and 1989. The two best years of an amazing run. In 1970, the music was no longer tinny, and the vibes still powerful in those 6-hour Evening with Grateful Dead shows. I was there. But the musical peak was 1989. No question about it in my mind.

I sure loved it when they played for 6/7 hours that was the best at that time but how they have grown with Brent in there , it brought them alive again ! Rip Jerry & Brent how I loved u Jerry ❤️❤️🌹🌹☮️☄️💥❤️🔥👻🪐👽🥰🥲😥🥹🤪😱

I’ll even include summer 89 in there. I think I’ve pinpointed the exact moment that the music graduated up to a new level lol: 5/27/89, AIDS benefit, Iko Iko, Clarence joins, and Jerry blurts out “HO!” Seemingly involuntarily, 😂 The music from then on was just more deeply synchronized

You think Brent had any soul? White, bearded James Brown.

Of course Brent had a great big soul that’s what makes him stand apart from all other piano ,organs & whatever the hell else he played
