I was there, it was a very beautiful cool night. One of the most laid back shows I saw. I remember thinking it was rare it to see Jerry in a sweater. I recall a few of my friends being annoyed by Bobby's pink guitar. I sat in the stands for the first set. Then my girlfriend and I made are way to the front and spent the second set very near the stage close to Jerry. It was I nearest I ever saw him play and was mesmerized. As the show ended the band accompanied by Bill Graham casually wandered of stage and walked for a minute or two with the general crowd exiting the theater before heading to a backstage area. I was right behind them and was amazed at how relaxed and oblivious they seemed of being among the crowd with no security or entourage at all. For a few moments I felt as if I was with them and that I had reached the center of this beautiful phenomenon. I sensed then just how damn laid back and cool those guys where and how they emanated kindness, humor and goodwill. I was back two weeks later to see the Jerry Garcia Band. I was 20 years old, great times!

It's so cool when you have a pretty good soundboard tape on for 25 years that You have periodically listened to over 100 times and then to see actual video of the show. It shatters the image that's been in your mind's eye and replaces it with an even cooler picture of late 80's GD show reality. The quality of the whole recording is so good. Thank you much to the dude that shares these amazing full show videos!

I don't know if I'm going thru a mid life crisis or something, but lately it's been so hard to watch these amazing shows without getting unusually emotional...anyone else missing the Silvered Haired Angel a lot more lately?...and missing Brent EVERY DAY my fellow Heads!!...I absolutely love EVERYTHING The Dead has EVER done, but in my opinion, the Brent era was the greatest time for the band...Jerry was so happy, and absolutely fed off of Brent's energy...I am pleading with anyone out there......please invent a Time Machine?...stay Grateful all and many many years of great health!...✌💀💨🍄🎵 🎶 " Such a long long time to be gone.... and a short time to be there...." ~ Grateful Dead 🎸

I always loved the Greek Theater, it sounded so good. I've always thought of this place as the holy ground for the Dead, I'm sure others would disagree, but my circle of friends always thought so too. I was at this show, remember it well.

+Scarlet Begonias Yes I too love the Greek. Indeed it is a holy ground, and I was there many a time and witnessed many miracles there. Tears ran from starting eyes, mouth agape in amaze. It's the prototype for the Dead Vehicle. Imagine three more Greeks, one just above the lower, and another two facing, thus forming a sphere, with the band in the center. Gravity will have been altered to some extent, as certainly we shall learn to do. Can you imagine the possibilities? The potential of all those seats filled with psycho-activated deadheads? You, we know what was created during those shows, and with a perfect geometrical arrangement, the energy produced during the music leaves me in no doubt. Here is the machine in which we could manifest the unimaginable power of collective consciousness, coordinated by the music we syncopated to. There's nothing we couldn't do, nowhere we couldn't go.. at all. The laws of physics as we know them are subject to our creativity. And so shall we do, one day.. and then we will have evolved, matured, and truly become gods. As was intended.

I am so happy to love all eras/epochs of the grateful dead. Some more than others of course, but it a thing where I'd rather have 1994 with Garcia than 2013 without him. It's like life, some you win some you lose.. I'd hate it if I only liked 1970-72 or nothing after 1978. They were a work in progress always . Also I think there is just as much sadness involved with the GD as there is joy. But isn't the world that much brighter having known this bullshit?? They reflected something intangible about life in the music and scene. Like , a universal unspoken truth made more sense with them around

Exactly what I have said and feel. Lotta negativity around post Brent years with the playing and raw moments that many jaded fans would dismiss etc. and now with mostly just acceptance of the emotional reality that nothing is forever and the play of dandC is a shell of the first 30 years but better than no dead. I dig the loyalty and respect the others for keeping the torch up high but i do ponder on this fruition of the dead legacy and the juxtaposition of now and then and the mind sets of the band members and the old and new heads. personally like 95 dead more than anything post jerry by default.

87 - 91 Were admittedly, according to Weir, the Dead''s best years. Let us not forget about Jerry's 10 nights on Broadway . Or the six Dylan/Dead shows that summer. Not to mention that Touch of Grey hit number 4 on the Billboard chart in July of 87. They appeared on David Letterman that fall too.

Voodoonola, you rock! Thanks for this. Must have been a chilly late summer evening, as Bobby's wearing clothes :D. Also, I think this was the final show with Jerry playing Tiger, not counting the pinch-hit appearance it made 7/9/95. Though it's definitely Wolf during space. That has to be the heaviest Other One of the 80's/90's, love the way they pile on that minor 6th chord.

Yes, it really is a laid back show. Clear and clean. Jerry is very present. It's not "crackling" or a big breathing monster sounding show but fine and good ol GD. Sweet. Frost shows would be like this too. These summer home shows were so relaxed for the band and we all just did our thing together. No hype, no stress. The Winter Oakland shows would be the ones that really dug in these years. Rowing the ship through heavy seas, working the machinery of the universe. This is light wind calm seas easy sailing.

believe it or not - this was very typical of the grateful dead when they were at one of the "zeniths" of their career - smoking hot and riffing a lot of "miles davis" if you listen closely - playing in berkeley - basically their "home base" - great set list - especially the second set - playing in the band - uncle john's band - playing in the band - warf rat - ending with foolish heart - how excellent - after the show - we all went into san francisco for some "hunan" - what a great city - and what great memories - walking out - i distinctly remember seeing mars with a beautiful crescent moon hanging like a pendant - you had to be there to know what i am talking about - one of those moments in life where you knew it really couldn't get much more "beautiful" and/or much more "perfect" - long live the grateful dead - ! ! ! - amen . . .

Someone needs to tell phil that he is the bass player and he should stop playing his bass like a regular guitar. And yeah phil is the greatest bass player to ever play the bass. Period. Just the way phil used to melt into the stage after shaking the whole building. In fact 1 show at winterland ( actually more than 1) little pieces of concrete would fall from the roof and hit us when phil would go into some serious low end. Incredible times they were.I miss those times. ALOT.

Peak at the Greek, unfortunately this was their last time playing there. They were barred from there after these shows. It was a damn shame, I am pretty sure it was because of the mess that was left behind. The band was furious, they put the word out to leave nothing but footprints, plain and simple. Friggin shame.

I was at this show too. Spent three days standing on the rail right under the Keyboard. These were crazy times. One day had backstage passes another I was able to sneak in through the front gate. That was pure magic. I wore blinking skulls on my head to every show for about 4 years. Also I named my car FULISH

I always loved the three day format of the Greeks as the show time would get earlier each day....but we would of course still go out late each night...waking up just in time for the 2pm(?) show the last day was always a start! Miss you Jer!

I was surround by a dozen campus cops the last day, come to find out they intrapped me in a drug deal they set up and recorded, for two doses they gave me 4 months and 7 years probation and the judge told me to stay away from dead shows unless I wanted to go back to jail...when I was in jail, they tried to kill me, spent 8 days in the infirmary in downtown Oakland! one good thing, plea-bargained for the felony to be dropped after probation, 7 years later judge told DA to honor it, Thanks Lord!!!

What a blessing it was to see them then, after Jerry's coma and everything else. You never know what you have until it's gone. I'm trying harder now, but still it too easy to take things for granted. Love life people and be thankful and forgiving. As Grandpa used to say, "to overlook is beautiful"!

I was there for both nights, it was everything I though it would be. After the first night we met some folks heading to Golden Gate Park, Jefferson Airplane and Wor were playing a free concert. We got back to the Greek theaters in time to a good spot for the VW van and enjoyed the parking lot scene before heading in...

aaaaaaaaardvark Yeah - wanting the world to be a better place and aiding the effort by like-minded others is pretty absurd, right? And actually, if you really knew anything about the Dead (which you obviously don't) you'd know they were anything but "quiet" about their individual and collective points of view - for the entire length of their careers. Never fails to amaze me how willing some people are to trumpet their ignorance...
