"When the Pittsburgh show from 7/8/90 was selected for release as the first View From The Vault, the excellent first set had a couple of major highlights from 1973's Wake Of The Flood: the set-closing Let It Grow, and this Row Jimmy from earlier in the set (to round out the Wake trio, they'd also play Eyes Of The World in the second set). Asked in an interview what was his favourite song to play with the Grateful Dead, Jerry replied Row Jimmy." - David Lemieux

We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

@@adamtisdelle3202 amen to that - I mostly only knew the Brent years when I was regularly seeing shows (85-90 - I tapped out a bit when Vince showed up). And I know everyone has their favorite eras, but hot damn it was big fun hanging out stage left under Jerry and Brent. There were so many smiles between those two and Brent could fill it up from everywhere man - keys and vocals. Way underrated and underappreciated still I feel

A friend of mine played with Bobby twice at Bohemian Grove. He said both times Bobby made a mistake. And he always watched my friend, as if he didn’t know what he was gonna do next. I figure it’s because he was so used to playing with Jerry he was uncomfortable with other guitar players.

I grew up at Dead Shows, mom was youngest of 5 and WOW I can remember the '70's,'80's and all the way to the end but I used to LOVE when they played this, especially with Brent! I remember we used to save our bubbles & chase em around and try and pop em on rhythm! I inherited my mom's tapes which usually came directly from the board but this version I was older but this song always reminds me of being a kid & having fun ; )

Eh idk say 69- 72 was better than 89-92. Jerry pre coma and pre heroin was an absolute unite and pig pen was one hell of a blues singer and most the band was still taking inspiration from psychedelics so the jams would just go way into space (when pig-pen could keep up on keys at least). Overall I think there's a specific energy tied along to that 69-72 period that they never really got back afterwards. Plus that's probably when they wrote their best material from golden Road to anthem to aoxomoxoa to live dead working man's/beauty to skull and roses they released some of the most legendary songs known to man in the matter of 3 years. Personally I would say that's a peak.

I got dosed in Vegas at a show once. June of 94, it was 100 plus degrees and there were many 'water' bottles. Me and a buddy walked into a loaded one. Not the way I prefer to experience that. Fortunately, I had a frame of reference, but it's not the way to go. Not for me. Perhaps, it was cool, in the 60s, via the pranksters, but I still feel it should be one's personal choice. There was a symbiotic relationship between them & their fans. It's like they made a sound only their fans could hear. They had a broader appeal on a few songs like most iconic bands, but outside of that the rest of their songs didn't even exist for most outside of their true fans. It was like a dog whistles affect. I had some dead head friends from all over both coasts & inbetween. When a dead song went on, they went on to, like they were part of the band & I was more amused by that than the song. Then there was the dead head look. Even when they were not dressed the part at work, you could still tell they were dead heads. It's was like there was someone inside the camouflage screaming to get out. It did seem like a mystical phenomenon. We use to kid about 1 or 2 joint movies & at one time I thought it was the same for songs, but I came to realize a Dead Head didn't need drugs for that connection any more than anyone liked whipped creme on their Sunday. It was just another sweet with a different texture that just enhanced the 1st treat. I don't no about laws of attraction. We often look for absolutes or formulas to prove our theories of why this or that, but I'm begining to think there aren't any except for one: "Birds of a feather flock together".

It’s funny cuz i wish i was a teenager in the 70s but I was born in Pittsburgh in 1971 and you guys just reminded me I was born at the right time, to be 18 and close up front at this show at 3 Rivers stadium was purely transcendent. Never even thought for a moment of the Pirates or Steelers games I’d seen there. The Grateful Dead owned that stadium and took it and 50,000(?) of us to their dimension. A more perfect world. A peak experience in my life. One of the perfect second sets. Find it on the archive ( Attics of My Life app… highly recommended.)☮️❤️🙂

He always looked the same to me. Mysterious, kind, in some sort of agony himself (at the least, unhappy; probably in constant physical pain), living in at least two different worlds (this one understood too well but found too trivial to him), knowing a lot buy saying just a very little that we would understand, god-like, .....

I saw him one time in 1990. He was positively glowing. No other way to describe it. 6-23-90 in broad daylight. It seemed like he was 7 feet tall and made of titanium but a heart of gold.

Shout out to any of my Gratefully Deadicated heads out there from Pittsburgh yinz guys rule!! I’m eternally Greatful on this Thanksgiving day to have access to listening and seeing footage of the best band on earth, or as Bill Graham puts it “ They are not the best at what they do, they’re the only ones who do what they do.”
