My friend, Betty Cantor-Jackson, was the recording engineer of this concert. When this was officially released a couple years ago I asked her for her thoughts. She said it brought back nice memories. She said she’d sit opposite side of the stage of Jerry. She’d be wearing headphones and intently listening to the audio mix and not paying attention to the band close by. She said during tours that Jerry would play little notes on his guitar to get her attention knowing she’d be listening and not watching. She would look up to see him smiling at her. It was their private moment during a public show. This recording brought that memory back. Long live the Grateful Dead!

@@davidtingley9978 Preferably in the 70's and earlier. The whole circus got entirely too big in the 80's and 90's. Garcia was deified to such a ridiculous level he became a prisoner to his hotel room for years on end. It unquestionably led to his early demise. I remember being at a Garcia Band show at the Warfield in the early 90's, and at the break he switched from a black to a purple t shirt. People around me lost their collective minds. "OMG, What does it mean??" One girl was in tears. Uhm, it meant that he was sweaty and wanted a dry shirt, ffs.

@@grelch One thing I love about JGB is Jerry never missed a beat. It was his and he could be himself for those brief hours. I got into the Dead 87-88 and got to see them at a time when Garcia was healthy. You could absolutely tell in late 93 early 94 it was going downhill fast. The last show few shows I saw in 94 were not great The vibe had changed in the scene totally. My favorite era of the Dead is 73-74. I got this sense that they were tapping into to a different vibe in the jams, the flow of the music and everything else.

At first when introduced to the Dead, I was deep into metal, prog, avant garde and other stuff, and I'm ashamed to admit I said it was "pling-plong" music. Took a couple years 'til I came around, and since then I've regarded them as one of the greats. Few bands make me want to go back in time so much it physically hurts. Get me off this runaway train! I've always liked liquorice though.

Dead will always be the most important band that has ever been. People en masse put their lives on hold just to tour with them. The wall of sound, acid tests, commrodery of the crowds, deep lyrics, experimental dives into sound exploration each time they played. This band will change your life if you open your mind to what they were trying to do with their music. It's changed countless lives already and shall continue to do so as long as their music remains and I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon except out in all directions unto infinity.

Lost count after 500 concerts. The joyous, carnival of fans dancing. Positive vibes everywhere. The Dead’s lyrics are unlike any other. 14:57 "That transition" had been occurring, little by little, since around 11:06; at the point where you said, "SMOOOTH! Oh! C'mon... they're spoiling us," the transition had begun in earnest. It is pretty much complete by 13:53, though they'd been jamming on the riff for about minute already. The point at which you paused it to ask about the transition is almost precisely where the jam out of Scarlet Begonias has fully morphed into Fire on the Mountain. 16:52 "Oooo! You hear that?" That's the hook to "Fire." 17:45 The lyrics start, and you realise they've been playing this song for 5 minutes; the jam was so smooth and the switch so gradual, you didn't even notice a whole new song had emerged from it. I've had a few copies of this show over 23 years since I got my first tape, and I've never gotten tired of it. I get a kick out of watching you get excited about stuff that has excited me for a long time. 32:18 All that refers to Sugar Magnolia, not Scarlet Begonias. RIP, Keith Godchaux

And if you didn't know it before now you know the power that is Cornell '77. Peace my brother.

I saw your reaction to shakedown street a month ago, and I’m filled with joy to see you now-still on the bus, and diving in deeper ! The dead have carried me through my highest highs and lowest lows. Can’t wait to see more of your reactions. When the world opens back up, check ‘em out live-Dead & co if they come back or a cover band (there are plenty of good ones).
Я нашел кто меня пранкует!
