I see Grateful Dead, I immediately click. They are the 'gratest' band in history, plus, the late 80s is my favorite Dead era.

Same. I do the same. The Dead were just awesome nearly every time I caught them live, including this night. Then, there are so many great recordings of awesome shows I did not attend. I'm hooked.

Robert Hunter writes the words and Jerry Garcia writes the music. A magical combo.

Phil Lesh is a master at the bass guitar. Coming from a classical music beginning, he flowed right into what the other members of the Dead created. His bass sound is very evident in most of their songs, and he helped create or improve many sounds the Dead and other groups use(d).

Always makes me cry....Then of course they pick me back up with a banger and have me jumpin within just a few notes. The Thursday after Jerry passed I was doing my usual, but special on this occasion, Grateful Dead night at Boston's in Tempe, Az. with Extra Ticket. There was a packed back yard that night. A lot of people coming together for the love of the music and each other. It got cut short at this song. As it approached the climax of the song a monsoon began to unleash a light show over our heads. Lightning and thunder. Then it began to rain. The band didn't hurry at all. Finished up this song at their own pace and then packed their gear with efficiency. Felt like the universe was helping us let go that night......There's nothin you can hold for very long.

Jerry reached straight into my soul in 1971 and has resided there ever since.

They sing the songs they wrote. Robert Hunter wrote the lyrics for all of Jerry's songs, and a few for Bobby and Phil, but most of Bobby's lyrics were penned by John Perry Barlow.

This show was at Giants Stadium, Exit 16 New Jersey, USA. Two nights earlier I had seen Jerry and the boys in Philly, these shows were the Dylan and The Dead tour. Amazing stuff. They were "on" for this tour. Damn I still miss touring.

It a headless bass. You string it from the end back to the body, instead of the other way around.

and then there was the night that the Dead found themselves playing in an ancient amphitheater at the foot of the Great Sphinx and Pyramids in Egypt - they were friendly with some local musicians and this kinda sorta made its way to the stage that night - the language of music is universal... enjoy Ollin Arageed performed by Hamza El Din backed by the Grateful Dead...kzbin.info/www/bejne/onqXmGSFp7Z2ec0si=M0NFKo3ikla5kNTh - a very cool moment in musical history

I find myself again listening to The Grateful Dead and liking it. Never ever thought I would. Quick react to some Earth, Wind & Fire, Ohio Players or Sly & the Family Stone before my playlist becomes unrecognizable!! 😊
