I'm a book lover and just can't get into the e-readers. When we traveled we sought out the Little Free Library in the area. We could drop the books off we were done reading and grab one or two more books for the next leg of our adventure. It kept the books down to a reasonable amount.

When we travel, by cruise ship, travel trailer or car, I bring books. And an e reader. E readers overheat in the hot Caribbean sun, sand scratches them and they can be stolen while you take a dip in the ocean. So a nice book in solid form works better. And, when we finish a book, we then pass it on by leaving it at the campground little library, in a hotel lobby, or at the cruise ship library. There is a purpose for all kinds of reading, but while inside your rv, I can see why you keep the clutter down by only using your electronic device.

We have 2 throw pillows in our RV. They're not decorative, we use them. On a travel day I toss the pillows onto the bed. They don't fall off and putting them back on the couch is jusr part of setting up the RV.

We traveled a fair amount when our son was younger, and after donating some of those lovely souvenirs, we started getting the collectible pressed penny that you do in a machine that can be found at a number of tourist places. We liked that they were very economical (fifty cents plus the penny that is being pressed) and they took up very little space. He had an album he would keep them in. I just wish we had thought to take a Sharpie and write the date on the back. It would also be fun to put them in a jar.

I love the free book trades! Some of the campgrounds we have been in have had awesome little trade libraries. I agree on the food - we tend to eat the same meals over and over (or a different version of that meal), but after living & traveling on a boat for 30 years, I do have backups of our staples.

We do key chains and connect them together.. and put a date on each one.. when we are staying put for an extended time... i hang then on a shepards hook to add as a decoration/small wind chime.. which isn't loud and could be annoying to self or others if it was an actual wind chime

It should be illegal to package water in anything smaller than a 5 gallon jug. More areas of the US should have water filtration centers that you can drive up to and fill a travel container with fresh cold water for a dime. Its disgusting to go to shopping centers and see a cart filled with 20 oz bottles.

I see a t-shirt that I like that has the name of a city we visited, last year, my parents and cousin and I visited Nashville Tennessee. I bought two t-shirts, one from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and the other from the Musician Hall of Fame. My closet is packed with clothes that I never wear! Don't you hate that?!

I love most of your list. I have even stopped buying most of those things for our home. LOL @ shot glasses. That was my “thing” in my 30s. Unfortunately, I travelled to a lot of places then that I won’t return to, so I can’t bring myself to toss them just yet, but the haven’t been unpacked the last few moves. Now, I buy jewelry. Not only is it something I always rotate, but when someone compliments a piece and I say, “ Oh, thank you. I actually bought this in Malta,” (my favorite necklace) it’s a great conversation starter. If you miss the throw pillows, you could serve a purpose with them. In my camper van, mine are filled with sweaters, blankets, my just-in-case puffy coat, etc. I would never pay so much for a mattress. A couple years ago, hubs and I replaced our perfectly comfortable mattress just because it was old and it was “time”. I bought a $200 memory foam mattress on WayFair. (Free shipping, in a box and shrink-wrapped, puffed out just like yours.) About a month later, hubs asked, “Is it only me or are you sleeping better on the new mattress, too?” To which I replied, “Yes! Like a log! You too?”

All of these tips are excellent, whether in an RV, or sticks and bricks. In fact, I'm on exactly the same page: no nick nacks, seasonal decor/decor in general, hit the library for all reading materials, including daily papers, etc. I don't even save a lot of clothing; buy gently used consignment/thrift store finds, and when out of season, donate and buy again the next year to save on storage. Not at all expensive because thrift prices are rock bottom. If you know what to look for, great finds are everywhere. Then there's the Dollar Tree. I could go on... but won't! It's extremely easy to look well-dressed, and as if money isn't an issue accordingly.

You don't have to give it up. I'll use a wooden cutting board for an example. Size depends on your preference. Find a good spot where your cutting board can live permanently. Use it as the basis for seasonal decor items. Perhaps a 6" Christmas tree with a few ice cube sized wrapped presents. The board will accommodate all sorts of goodies for Valentine Day. Change out for symbols of St Patrick's day. If you like sweets, a small candy dish can be refilled with holiday day appropriate items. If you're in the US, think about how you can decorate your board for July 4th. Wrap the board with seasonal/themed paper or fabrics. Enjoy your creativity as you develop new ways to enhance your board. If you include consumables as a part of your decor, such as candy corn for Autumn it won't take much space to store the items you choose to keep. Remember the bowl you use for chocolate kisses in Feb may also be used for candy canes in Dec and salsa in June. (Dual duty item.) Choose a board and an appropriate storage container for you space. Then, you can make seasonal decor work for you. Both will have limits, yet give much opportunity to full explore the boundaries of those limits, as the seasons change. Hope this is some food for thought. PS: If you don't have a flat surface for a cutting board, think about wall space with a corkboard or pegboard. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you can do with one of those that's 18"x18" or "24x24". Pegboard has all sorts of options to aid in display. On travel days either one fully decorated can be placed on a bed and re-hung quickly at your next destination.

Disagree on the Berkey, pretty hard to justify the upfront cost vs bottled water plus those replacement filters are not cheap either. I get enviro-concerns but budget is important too. It will take most people years to a decade or more to recoup the cost of the Berkey. If you have a high demand for drinking water then perhaps the Berkey can be justified otherwise stick with the cheap bottled stuff.

Disagree with #5. In my country food is very expensive, very USA focused is this video, but food is 30% of income in my country. Sometimes we have limits on buying bread one per loaf per day per customer from stores or they have no stock at all. Stock up on at least 3 months supply of pasta, pasta sauce, 00 bread and bread making ingredients like yeast and baking powder. #7 bottled water we have rain catchment and filters as described in the video. Town water is not drinkable, not even for animals. Love your channel about RV life, we live full time in RV.

Me and my wife get magnets at all the different places we visit. We have a magnetic board that we stick all our souvenirs too. It’s a growing art piece and doesn’t take up much space.

Great video. As for bringing along too much stuff, I learned from my Dad decades ago when we were little and went camping is that he gave us a beer box. Sadly it was an *empty* beer box. 😉 Now remember, this was in the 60's and 70's. He said you can take all you want and what you want but it ALL must fit into the beer box. So, when we started camping with our kids is that we bought them a duffle bag and the same rules applied. You can bring anything you want and as much as you want but it all must fit in their duffle bags. And that rule applied to us as well. But that was camping, full-time, or long-term RV'ing is something different.

Great rule (only brining what fits in a small box, duffle, etc.) Thanks for watching

I live in my RV full time, I am not using it to travel, I have been watching a ton of your videos and others for tips and advice. So far the stuff about travel days I skim through but the ideas of storage and hacks are great still have a lot to watch and implement between work and arranging things

My daughter joined us for a camping trip, she brought her air fryer which took up way too much space. We didn't even use it! That is one thing that needed to stay home.(in her defense, she didn't realize we could use the propane oven!)

Isn't that funny~ I have 2 air fryers, one is a Ninja flip away oven style, other a regular Ninja Grill air fryer that I do make room for because I don't want to use the propane.=) I've never been comfortable cooking or heating w/any type of gas, & now that I'm nearly 60 yrs old, I doubt that will change. I know plenty of folks who say they love it however, & are not nervous nellies like myself.🤣 *We're in a VW Vista 21 ft class C btw, so you can imagine how serious I am to give them the space!

Great subject Charity! I think there is a big difference between RV'ing full time vs. part time. We tend to load up for sure, but with just two of us camping, usually only a week at a time, we tend to bring more than we need, but we have the room and weight carrying ability for it. I can see where it would be an issue for a bigger family and for longer lengths of time. Charity, hope you are feeling OK, your voice sounds a little strained. Happy travels.

All of our decor is command strip hard mounted. No takedown for travel. We have always replaced the mattresses as well. Souvenirs are a must, and we have a magnet board just for that, and only that.

If you want to decorate for the holidays: Buy just a few sets of the programmable multi-color LED light sets. Ultra-low power consumption, and you have multi-color for Christmas, red and pink for Valentines, Red White and Blue for the 4th of July, orange and purple for Halloween and fall-colors for Thanksgiving. Plus they can do double duty for lighting screened in stuff, light up your rig in flashing hazard orange if you're stuck at the side of the road... Any other holiday decor - make it inflatables!

I like the 1 in 1 out rule but we are not even weekend warriors at this time, but if we were full or part time- it makes since. We just have a thought/ rule of---> can it be used for more than 1 thing. Example a step stool. It's a stool seat or a table. Also known as The Spork Rule Throw pillows -- due to our unit having a Murphy Bed and it's location / shape they help fill a gap at the head of our Bed to help keep our pillows from falling into the gap

This video made me laugh so hard! My husband LOVED it!! We have been full time almost 4 years now, but we are stationary, only moving when he got orders; now that he is retired out of the Marine Corps, we are stationary to care for his mom in WV. I have 5 pillows on the couch, 10 pillows on our Tempurpedic bed, and between our adult special needs daughter's instruments and my crafting supplies in the garage, we have to box up around 3K lbs if we move, lol! Decor and knickknacks? Maybe I went a little crazy, but our RV looks like a farmhouse when you enter, and everyone cant believe it looks so much like a home. If we traveled, it would, of course, be different, but my hubby LOVED everything you had to say, lol!! (He doesn't understand why we need so many pillows and blankets...😂)

Why do you have to remove decor after travel?? Whatever decor I bought for my travel trailer…..stays in the trailer. I only put away in a bin or cabinet something that might fall or break during travel, but it’s not much. Also, I thought you weren’t full-time??? If not, why not keep seasonal decor at your home when season is over?

Can u show more how u unwrap and the bed expands? How heavy? Can 1 person ( like old lady) do it or do I need to hire help. I leave plastic on current mattresses for pest prevention, can plastic casing be left on mattress or does it have to be cut?

I'm on the fence with ebooks, there convenient but if internet or power is out then it is better to have physical book. I do have a few ebooks, I downloaded from p2p or from bit torrent especially if you can get them for free. I also enjoy donating books and it would be cool if I can find a free library or exchange.
