In recent years, I have had a long and difficult battle with anxiety and depression. Many days I did not feel like getting out of bed. My eyes open, and the battle begins. Irrational thoughts, regrets about my future, fear of the future, fear of the past. In the back of my mind, a voice tells me, "Get out of bed. Move forward." So I get up, put on my shoes, and start walking. The thoughts in my mind begin to race, and become negative. "I've wasted so much," I say to myself, "Time has been wasted. Relationships have been disrupted." In my better moments, at these points, I start talking in a different way. "I am so thankful to be alive. To be able to walk. To have family and friends. I am so blessed. Life has been rough, but I am moving forward." When we begin thinking like this, something happens. We become a grateful person. Life takes on a different hue. We begin to let go. We begin to forgive. We begin to see the problems in our life as opportunities rather than roadblocks. While it will not remove the problems and difficulties in your life, it will change the way you see the world. There is so much we do not control. We do control our attitude. Be grateful.

Thank you so much for sharing! We all have days where we feel down and it can be easier to stay there than to smile or think a positive thought. It’s all temporary and changing our perspective and practicing gratitude will get us in a better mindset every time. I’ve been in this place so many times and I’m grateful to know what it’s like so I can catch myself, jump up and say, “I am happy to be alive, I am grateful for my mind, body, and soul, and thank you for even the little things I get to accomplish today!” Continue affirming your life and practicing gratitude. We’re all on this journey together and that is definitely something to be grateful for! 🧡
