My friend's sister interned with her, and said she was the kindest, most down to earth person she had ever worked for. Long after her internship was over, she would still get little gifts like stationary and handwritten cards from Kate. In fact, Patty was my introduction to her, and now I have a lot of her stuff in my closet. I was heartbroken when I found out that she passed away.

@@sandysouthward3635 I seen an interview with David spade and he was crying about 5 months after she passed. He said she would always give him an outpouring of her heart 💜 full of the truest advice. When he would ask a lady friend over they would always ask was she going to be there . She would tell them we are just being casual and they would dress up in all her clothes . She always felt shy in that regard But they had great love and laughs. It was so nice to see him so emotional.

What a beautiful tribute to Kate. I live in KC and never knew anything about her nor that she was from here. I exclusively carry Kate Spade handbags so she has always been special to me in that regard. Thank you for the landmarks to look for as I will go pay respects at her grave site. I remember when Kate died, my heart broke for her daughter and her family. I worked part time, at Stein Mart the following day I noticed a bright yellow small Kate Spade purse, we never sold her brand in her store. It had a calming effect, on me and it was a sign from her that everything was going to be okay and thanked me for my thoughts of love. I know, it sounds crazy, but I believe in signs and a higher power.

A friend of mine’s father was on a flight and was sitting next to a woman who seemed troubled. He talked to her at length, and at some point during the conversation, she just leaned over on his shoulder and cried. So he tried to console her for the remainder of the trip and she thanked him for his kindness. You can only imagine his shock when the news came on about her death. He told my friend that she was the woman on the plane. It made him uneasy, but he was happy to provide her the emotional support she needed in that time. I’m not sure how much time passed between that encounter and her death, but it’s just so sad. Imagine crying on the shoulder of a stranger because you’re so depressed and worn out. My heart goes out to her family and her poor soul, especially.

I will never forget getting my first Kate Spade bag. As a mom of 4 little kids, it made be so happy to carry it. There will never be anyone like her unless of course her daughter decides to pick up the brand Francis Valentine which would be amazing. I always thought she was destined to be our own American version of Channel. She was timeless.

Thank you for doing a very detailed and accurate bio of Kate Spade. My first designer bag was Kate Spade (which I still have today) and I only knew from limited news outlets just a bizarre statement her husband gave but felt that something was off, yes, being menopausal and or bipolar is such a bad combo (I’m a member of that club) but she was so lively when interviewed but then to see how the end of her life played out is/was such a tragic loss for this talented woman. I’m still having doubts about her husband and that separation but we can’t bring her back. It’s so sad. rest in peace, Kate

Here’s what i read from a news article about her. Her husband had asked for divorce a few days prior after 24 years of marriage and moved into a nearby apartment that’s why she did this. Her note said to her daughter : I love you , this is not your fault , ask DADDY !!! She had sold her company for 2.4 BILLION dollars. And he husband is the brother of actor David spade.

I had a friend the ended his life this same way and he ended up doing it at a time where he had switched his meds and it made him more depressed than normal. He mentioned it in a live video the day before he died... he didn't give himself the time to adjust, read a bad review about himself online, and ended up deciding to end it.

We have a much bigger headstone on order for my late dad on order, and he was a farmer in a small rural town. Something is very odd about such a small headstone using her maiden name, especially since her name is so well known. Even if her wishes were something modest, this still doesn't seem quite right.

I was so sad when she passed away. I wear glasses and whenever I get new ones, they are always Kate Spade. I never mind spending the extra cost for them, they are the best frames! RIP Kate, you are missed! I lost my father to suicide in 1990 and I remember talking with him the night before and he seemed happy too. I believe they feel good after they made their decisions. My dad was involved in our town and my parents had a store that was successful, he was in Rotary and nobody could believe that he took his own life.

The love for her daughter, I would think, would have been a major deterrent to taking her own life. I understand depression and the effects of menopause, but her death still seems suspicious. The mention of a friend questioning specific pills is interesting. One doesn’t know anyone’s internal life, even close. But still…..still suspicious in my mind.

When a person’s mind is in that state, they often feel like a burden to those around them. They think they are doing what’s best for their loved ones. It’s not accurate, but depression lies. Also, Kate had bipolar disorder. Psychiatric medications often come with a black box warning, meaning they can cause or increase suicidal ideation or behavior. And then both her personal and professional life were in tough places. There are so many potential factors involved.

I have looked at her resting place before and find it sad no mention of the mark she made in the fashion world on her gravestone. Very informative & interesting video! I've wanted a Kate Spade glitter bag for YEARS. In college I liked to collect handbags mostly during the era of hip hop apparel lines like Baby Phat, Rocawear, Applebottoms, G-Unit, Dereon, etc that weren't super expensive but still a bit pricey. I had a few more expensive 1s from Guess & Coach but then I became a mom & as usual my luxuries were put aside & my child got everything. But I recently saved up all my credit card rewards & got a GORGEOUS lilac glitter Kate Spade bag & matching wallet for a great price on Mercari & Im totally in love with it! RIP Kate Spade

My daughter gave me a Kate Spade for Christmas 5-6 years ago. I’ve used it ever since as my everyday handbag. It still looks like new. Only the underside of the handle has a little bit of wear, but you can’t see it. I did not know she had sold the company. I still think of her when I see her business name with the little spade on it. I had never had a designer bag until this one. Never would think of buying one . When my daughter ordered it, she just asked me to pick from some colors and I choose blue. It’s a beautiful color of blue, a little different. Not a royal blue and not a navy blue but like a mix. Thank you for telling us about her. RIP 💐 Katherine Brosnahan

I hope her daughter and family are doing well. My grandfather also took his life. It’s not a club any of us want to be in. Nonetheless I send love to all whom have lived through it or have been affected by this. There is pain in others and in ourselves that no one else can see😢
