I thought my 700x43 were pretty wide. But, my girlfriend just ordered her first gravel bike and she has 650bx47. Fair to say I'm stoked for her, but just a little bit jealous.

IMO what really helps make the tires wide is the width of the rim. But those 650 x 47s will be fun in the sun for your lady!

Prerequisite is the thing you have to have done before you can do the other thing, so your highway miles, unless you're riding to your ride, are requisite noun - a thing that is necessary for the achievement of a specified end; adjective - made necessary by particular circumstances or regulations. not prerequisite. I didn't say anything last time, but that's 2 videos in a row ;-)

question: why don't carbon 'gravel' bikes geometry and design take learnings from 29er hardtail that allow for huge amounts of tire clearance on 29er (700c) rims? I would think you'd want that much more traction and rolling momentum for a gravel bikes just as is available for hardtails.
@neilpook3719 Жыл бұрын
It's all an issue of geometry and bike purpose. 29ers have a much longer wheel base than a gravel bike. The rider's position is also more central than a gravel bike's. So this allows the 29er frames to have more tyre clearance, without lengthening the rear triangle. MTBs also have the "boost" size frames, which also allow for wider tyres. Only MTBs have boost geometry. If you were to do that to a gravel bike, then it would be a mountain bike geometry. It is not designed to shred through rock gardens or steer through steep off camber hairpins. It is designed for efficiency on long distances, on long strait tracks and roads. Less technical terrain, such as fire trails, logging roads and normal roads. Wider tyres allow for a larger contact patch for more grip and better brake performance. Also yes, they roll over obstacles more easily. A gravel bike shouldn't have to do that, if it's being used as it is designed for. Narrower tryers actually have lower rolling resistance than wider ones. Which is good when you're riding the bike as intended. It's not for single trail, so it won't need MTB tyres. So they're not built that way. Horses for courses.

Im out of shape buying this on credit and dumping 300 cash in parts into it. its what I can afford and looking to be kicked while I am down just some advice, it was this or the RHT mtb. which I like the hydro brakes and drive set up however I won't use it to mtb I want gravel or road pretty much. Thanks.
