Darken really did a great job respecting the old tracks, infusing them with new strength, this album sounds fucking massive and epic.

I love this. I always had trouble with Graveland due to the production quality on most of their albums (Somehow I can deal with "Carpathian Wolves", but that's it), but this makes everything fantastic. It's not a slight at Graveland, i'm just not much of a lo-fi Black Metal kind of guy.

Try Celtic Winter. It's a demo but oddly enough it has much more balanced, clear and full sound than any of the 90s full length albums (until Immortal Pride)

I'm not a massive fan of Graveland musically, and i'm not going to get into a debate about politics or the "art versus artist" divide, I just want to say one thing: £45 for a p much complete discography of one of the biggest names in Black Metal on Bandcamp is a really good deal. I won't be picking it up myself, but damn, to quote a phrase my rasta mate and I used about some locals back in 'day: "do you not like money, bruv?" Props for dat, still.
@Hordes_Of_Nebulah7 жыл бұрын
I think it is reasonable since it is the digital discography and not actually physical copies, now if it was the same price for a full discography on CD or LP then they would be at a loss but since there are no additional printing costs to produce digital copies it is all profit.
@KnjazNazrath7 жыл бұрын
+Ryan A I'm p sure anyone with more than a plebin knowledge of the BM scene is aware of Graveland, tbh. More people know of them than my favourite BM bands Axis of Perdition or Aborym, and they're both p big. Bear in mind, like anyone with taste, mentioning Aborym means you only like them up to "Generator" and not afterwards.

I still wonder how this band is NSBM. Their lyrics are not in that subject and neither is their visual art. I have not seen them using any symbols of nationalsocialism.
@davidkomn98747 жыл бұрын
Raaka-Rene It's because they are NOT.
@ItsNotaTuhmah7 жыл бұрын
They label the band NS because anything that support heritage, values and cultural protection is labeled NS nowadays. Also, Darken was friend of some NS guys on early 90's. Now, some of the early lyrics have some reference to white/aryan heritage, which is seen as NS. It's a shame people forget their past and roots just because a bunch of weaklings feel "offended" by everything.

I HARDLY ever give anyone a thumbs down but.. graveland was once one of the top ten darkest bands ive ever heard in my life. I dont understand why so many fall into the pagan dark metal nsbm. Just proclaim it so it dont waste our time. fOR example the original recording of "kingdom of darkness" should have been left alone as one of the darkest metal songs ever made.

How can anyone be pagan and a neo-nazi at the same time? That's like the funniest thing I've ever heard.
@arng1116 жыл бұрын
Your statement makes no sense. Unless you follow some hippy neo-pagan religion like Wicca. This paganism is much more authentic and organic. It also deals a great deal with ancestor worship, ancestors who by today's standards were extremely xenophobic. Darken of Graveland is nationalist, but not a neo-Nazi. Do you know the difference? Probably not. Even still, a neo-Nazi could be pagan, Christian, atheist, it doesn't matter. politics and religious beliefs don't have to fall in line 100%, and there is nothing anti-nationalist about paganism, unless you believe our ancestors cared about multiculturalism and the interests of foreigners over their own people.... lmao
@radimsandr51416 жыл бұрын
Never heard of any pagan community being open to neo-nazis. And nationalism and neo-nazism are basically the same thing. Same evil.
@arng1116 жыл бұрын
Radim Šandr Both those statements show that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. "Pagan" isn't an organization with rules that determine membership. While some kindreds may not allow "racists" or nationalists to join them, other kindreds are completely folkish, and only allow those of European descent to join them. Your political views don't determine whether or not you can honour your ancestors, worship your ancestral gods, and practice ancient traditions. The only thing your political views would affect is whether or not a liberal kindred would let you join their gathering (you probably wouldn't want to anyway). There are plenty of other likeminded kindreds you could join, you can practice with friends and family, or you can practice by yourself. I think you're confusing historical and reconstructionist paganism with hippie New Age "paganism". I can assure you that Graveland and no one here in the comments are fucking New Age hippies. Secondly, nationalism and neo-nazism are not the same thing, and nationalism is not evil. There are a lot of different forms of nationalism. Neo-Nazism is but a small, modern and extreme branch of nationalism. Contrary to popular belief, Neo-Nazism doesn't even resemble real National Socialism. Neo-Nazism is more of a Hollywood caricature of National Socialism and has a lot to do with the punk scene. Nationalism in and of itself is not evil, but is what has driven nations throughout history to success and prosperity. It's just a larger form of tribalism, and underneath the surface of every human lies an element of it. It's part of human nature and will always exist no matter how much the modern world tries to suppress it. You can see it throughout the animal kingdom as well. It doesn't matter your race or ethnicity. Human history was built on the head of an axe (or club) and a cracked skull. Every nation in the world, no matter the continent, race, or culture, was built on this foundation. There are nations you've never even heard of that are in the dustbins of history because a stronger tribe, kingdom, or nation came along along and wiped them out. You want a non European example? Study the Mongols, Aztecs, or Zulus. You could even study how the various tribes of North America warred with, genocided, and enslaved each other before the Europeans went to the New World and settled it. In fact, many native tribes allied with the French, British, or later the Americans, in order to fight their historical enemies from other tribes. You may view this violent and xenophobic history and naturally occurring trait of human nature as "wrong" or "evil", but that doesn't change anything. This is the real world. Your anti-nationalistic ideas and views that all humans should get along are nice in theory, but would never happen. Under the microscope of time, modern Western values and ideas of globalism, multiculturalism, and pacifism are just an experiment, and it's doomed to failure, especially when you consider that most non-Westerners DO NOT share these values. Tell me where in Africa or the Middle East are egalitarianism and multiculturalism valued? What about East Asia? Did you know that South Koreans and Japanese are actually more xenophobic than modern Westerners?
@radimsandr51416 жыл бұрын
That is actually a very rational answer, thank you for that. I hear you, I do know these things and I, too, am convinced that all of these ideas are very utopic. But I am still convinced, that Nationalism is a social construct, rather than something of human nature. But be it this or that way, I remaind a strong, hate-driven misanthrope and at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter to me that much. But ancient Pagan religions were always based on the idea of universal peace, teachings of Ahimsa, and such. That's the point I'm trying to make.
