Employers can and will explain to the workers your contract states X amount of working hours within area of employment. If refuse employer can terminate your employment Employers can also find other home workers global and give them a lower salary. Be careful what you want as employers at end of day will want and obtain what is best for the company. You are replaceable and expendable. If have to work to live you are a worker not matter status you hold. Join a union as without them you may find yourself in a sticky situation.

We, we, we employer may not see it that way. Plus those that do not have the choice to work from home do not want transport costs for them to increase due to lack of revenue to cover those that pay none Same goes for lack of revenue within towns due to no one in office. Mostly about profit and working from home lowers that. We, we, we is one way to look at it. Does not follow best way.

WFH - MNC IT companies have people working from different locations. WFH / WF Office does not make difference. WFH- Output increased with flxible timing and employees are avaialble for longer time with breaks in between. Team is available for meetings during India and US hours. People can work with more energy and can be made answerable for open issues. ... I think Team Management has to tackle issues any with WFH. .. :) Obviously .. I am WFH for 2 & half years and will look for alternative if asked to be in the office simply because I delivered...

While many reasons may be given to force employees back to office , the most important reason which no one would acknowledge is the rising insecurity of the higher management. Pre pandemic era, they're used to seeing a floor full of employees and feeling a vicarious sense of control. In the current setup they're feeling utterly powerless and so not in control. However work gets done better than earlier and this has led them to become nervous about their own relevance and existence in the new way of working. In their desperation they're resorting to any means to justify and coerce employees back to office. They want to go back to the old ways of authority and donot want even the slightest of autonomy given to the employees. Employees are grateful to the organization for taking care of them during the pandemic. The problem is when the organization does not accept a middle path but takes a stand and says it's either my way or the highway.

@@GOD9494 Well that's just your opinion and too philosophical if you ask me. For me the comfort of being able to work from home is more important than being stuck in traffic and to lose 3 hours of the day in order to have a conversation while grabbing a coffee with a colleague. Collaboration is not just about merging code? As far as the JD for a developer is concerned that's exactly what collaboration means. Team work is essential to build efficient coordination. In management/non-technical roles, warehousing, hardware jobs context those are in-person meet-ups. As long as the job gets done, that's what should matter. Informal interactions can happen during occasional office visits or planned time-offs. Just because one sits at home does not mean he/she does not have a life. Where did you get that from? Life isn't about getting paychecks? In today's world those are what allows you to have a life in the first place. You can plan a trip and work from anywhere provided your higher-ups allow you to do so. Many startups in India have allowed such freedom.

As a Software Engineer who has worked WFH full time since the pandemic started, I can say this whole "productivity" argument is utter bullshit. I have personally experienced an increased productivity due to many reasons. One is I don't distracted by all the office noises so I can focus better. I can start working early and finish working late because there's no commute time(which used to be 3.5 hrs per day pre-pandemic). I'm not gonna list down all the other merits because the so-called "productivity" is the only defense of these frat CEOs like Elon Musk have to ask their employees to return. Luckily for us our CEO has understood this ground reality and has allowed us to WFH indefinitely while anyone can come to office anytime if they want. If a company is not meeting their targets that means their leadership has failed. They just scapegoat employees WFH to cover up their own incompetence.

At the end of the day, if the employer wants you in the office, you will have to go to the office despite all the positive attributes of the hybrid option. Some will resign and lookelse where, some will resign, look else where and return to the previous employer if the companies that offer work from home options are overwhelmed by demand and are left without any options, or if slowly the new found employer finally swiches back to brick and mortar. All theories are excellent as long as emplyers go along. So prepare for all eventualities. Everyone is replaceable and many excellent employees will accept to go back to office, especially if the employer slips in that famous "this new requirement superceedes all previous agreements, and any non compliance is subject to termination'.

It is hypocritical to say that WFH suddenly caused lack of productivity when no such thing was ever highlighted in past 2.5 years. Moreover, teams in large companies are scattered across geographies so we will still have to sit on desk and talk on phone. Talking about productivity, those to commute to IT parks know that it takes on an average 2 hours one-way due to lack of infrastructure in cities like Pune, Bangalore etc. The productivity in office is further lower because there are repeated tea breaks, long queues for lunch...people also smoke more due to social obligation. Companies also spend quite a lot in conveyance and other logistics. Infact, for a junior employee working in shift, the cost of conveyance to the company is more than his actual salary. I know this because I have discussed this multiple times with the cab driver over my long commutes to work. There is many a slip between the cup and the lip and transition will be extremely difficult for humanitarian point of view. A lot of people also have changed priorities, there children have taken admissions...their parents have grown older and need them...the companies should not make puppets out of innocent middle class taxpayers. We all know that the govetnment wants us to come out of our home so that we spend more and save less. They are blackmailing the companies indirectly to remove the SEZ tax and other benefits. Corporates liked WFH but are forced as the salaried class spends more than what they earn by taking loan and buy properties. We are already in suffering by paying huge taxes. The labour laws dont favour us and companies fire us anytime they want. WFH came as a blessing in disguise due to pendamic and we made sure that work goes on flawlessly during all times. If companies give reasons like lack of productivity, its disheartening and I would not like to work in a company like that. Governments and builders will push for their benefit...but vompanies should fight back for employees....rahzano se gila nahi, rehbari ka sawaal hai...

Also why aren't companies not thinking about the time and money that gets wasted in commuting to office. Working from an office offers negligible benefits when compared to WFH. Also forcing people to work from an office is definitely gonna be a detrimental factor and unlikely a motivational one. Hence companies must rethink their decision on forcing people to return to office. Period😤😡😡😤

WFH is advantageous for both employees and employers. If employers cannot manage the talent remotely, it's their mistake. Uber, Zomato, Swiggy, etc. are in a completely remote working model yet they are gaining profits. The reason why productivity is decreasing is the inflexible hybrid model of coming to the office 3 days a week. Managing 2 workspaces is difficult and it is difficult to maintain a specific schedule or working rhythm. Throughout 2020 and 2021, we saw a boost in the business profit all due to full work from home. Plus WFO is detrimental to the environment. WFH saves the environment by reducing the commute and its pollution. Most of the time the WFH disadvantages are less or manageable but they are exaggerated by the employers to put forward their WFO agenda and WFO contains no advantages at all but some imaginary advantages of WFO are touted!

In democratic voting almost everyone chose to work from home and those who prefer to spend a few days in a month in an office are very much welcome. The office is still there, some people are sending equipment to customers so it's really up to staff. However, general costs of renting office space has dropped, starting from coffee ending on electricity. In 3 there was no problem a with people not wanting to share rooms with each other, no complains to HR manager about people stealing lunches or slurping coffee to loud. Finally people who don't find working with others funny can stay at home and work alongside their dogs and cats and Teams is fulfilling all interpersonal needs staff may have. A very interesting topic. I work in advertising and my partner team and clients are based in Germany, so I don't really think it would make much of a difference from where I work. I understand the point about productivity, but from what I have seen in the last 2-2.5 years is that people who do put in their 100%, do it irrespective of the online/offline work set-up, and who don't will slack off even when they're in office. There should be a balance. Employees should be given a choice. If I can do my work efficiently from my home and deliver results, why should I return to office? And even if I go back because I am forced to and because I don't find another job due to recession, would I be motivated to work? I don't think so.

@@accessdenied4089 I am saying that it is sad that a world wide catastrophe had to happen for corporations to make an adjustment. Have you ever wondered if perhaps nature was just trying to get us to listen and slow down so that we can save the earth and save ourselves. It took covid for the volume of traffic to go down and subsequently for pollution to go down so that we could have cleaner air to breathe. It took covid for us to actually slow down and remember that we had families that we love and needed to get to know better. It took covid for us to realize that with all the technologies we had such as microsoft teams, google meet, zoom that we were not leveraging all these existing technologies. No, I am not praying or asking for a worldwide catastrophe to happen for us to get it . I am asking for us to use our God given noggins for a change. We work to live and not live to work. We built fancy airplanes and went to the moon. We lunched rockets into space yet we cant even pay attention to our own health and the health of our planet. Corporations have to have a rethink. Yes , there is need for employee collaboration in order to improve training and stimulate the social dynamics at the work place. This can be achieved by keeping the hybrid schedule. This way there is balance. Employees are tired of spending a good portion of their lives living like cubicle rats just to satisfy the curiosity of a megalomaniac troll when they are still able to deliver the same or better output in a friendlier environment and at a lesser cost to the company. Moreover, there is a good chance that workplace safety will increase if employees spend some time working in a more comfortable environment a few days of the week. Now , for production type employees or employees who have to be on the floor the case is evident that they have to show up at the factory, or hospital or call center for work to be done.

With all the official concern about climate change, one would expect all the agencies who try to stop us from driving private vehicles to celebrate and encourage telecommuting. Instead, there has not been one tiny word about how telecommuting benefits the environment, reduces our "throw-away" fashion culture, or encourages healthier home-cooked meals. I have lost over 10 pounds by working from home, as I have more time to exercise and I'm eating healthier meals. Also, no one knows what race I am, so I have no concerns about racial discrimination. There's no danger of all the safety concerns we need to discuss every year, such a water spilled in the breakroom, etc. I have been far more productive working at home than at the office. If I need to work on a priority project, I always get it finished sooner at home than at the office. They lack the communication skills to reach out to other people and learn real life examples from their peers. The screenshare is ineffective as compared to in person live sessions. WFH is effective for people who had been working in Office scenarios for a while and now can work hybrid without affecting their collaboration skills. For new employees, it's good to have few days at office to get some soft skills and learn from experience of other people.

At my company we resolved this issue by meeting at the office specifically to train and address the challenges newer team mates were experiencing. It worked great, because we knew we needed to focus on the task at hand.

It’s about control. It’s the power trip management gets from being able to lord over their minions. Management doesn’t like not being able to constantly look over the shoulder of workers. Productivity at my previous work, now bought out, drastically increased due to the lack of distractions and interruptions when working from home. Obviously manufacturing needs to be in person but very little white collar needs in person and in major metro areas the real estate to how white collar workers is quite expensive. Remote work for non-manufacturing is the future, corporations just done get it yet; they will get it soon enough if they want their non-manufacturing positions to be filled… Highly unlikely white collar workers will go back to sweatshop cubicles over the long run.

I WFH with probably the most productive and cohesive team I've had the pleasure of working with. Company has saved a ton of money on not leasing office space anymore. Better mental health, I actually do a few more hours than previously as I don't spent 2-3 hours per day sat on public transport. I'm there when my kids come home from school and APPRECIATE the benefits wfh gives me, so give back to my employer. I think this has a lot more with management not actually trusting their employees unless they can see them. Which says more about them than us.

We could be going backwards as a society if that option of hybrid is not offered anymore. Set a minimum office time per quarter per year, as to when to have staff work in office and the rest of time allow them the option of working from home. Plus with rising economic costs and instability in the world in general, the best and safest way would be to work from home. Let’s not pretend covid isn’t a thing anymore and could you imagine the sickness levels shooting up if all went back. That surely won’t be good for business. And let’s do our bit for Climate Change.. less cars on the road and carbon footprint, otherwise there won’t be any companies to run in the future.. AND productivity has really improved in fact, plus better well being of staff. Let’s move forward with hybrid working! It’s the best way

WFH is a pain in the back if the team is not motivated enough. I got immensely frustrated in working with my team members who has no interest in working and the dumb manager failed to stop this. Work that can be done in 2 days, took 2 weeks to complete just because my counterpart chills out the whole day and responds only at EOD.. I felt like quitting my job 😕. Complaining to the manager every time fires back, so I had to bear it. It was hell

These companies still believe in factory labourers, attendance, 9-6 work. Factory started this system and still new age corporate offices haven't got out of it. 2-3 years of covid and they haven't learned new ways to improve work life culture still going back to age old factory setup.

Why do we have so many white people in these reportages and so few Indians?.. Aren't we making these news stories primarily for Indian people? Why do we fill them with white people just to appear fashionable? It's so cheap. My American friends ask me this sometimes. My answer: I guess we don't like seeing ourselves in them.

Although WFO is a better option for productivity but cost of everything has gone so high and salaries are still not upto the mark. Inflaion is beating salary hikes. All the offices concentrated in one city like Bangalore casues traffic choking, over crowding, non availability of houses near offices, paying higher rents for cheap houses and more cheaper house owners harassment..worst roads.. no fresh air to breath no place to walk.. few centimeters of rains flood the communities.

There are no absolutes. What's best for the employee may not be what's best for the company. If you want to work from home, then work for yourself or find an employer who agrees. If you want to run your company the way that is best for you, then let the chips fall where they may. There are no 1 size fits all when it comes to companies or people.

In today's world teams are located at multiple locations. They have no choice but to collaborate online and not in meeting rooms. As a developer, wfh is way more efficient for me than working from office. But firms are insisting employees to return to office. The productivity didn't go down because of wfh. It went down because everyone's families were going through a freaking pandemic.

If you scan the comments, the claims of increased productivity come from the individual WFH folks, usually on well defined projects, with a majority of the projects in IT which can be compartmentalized with the necessary development resources (a computer and Internet) available in your home. What you are missing is the social interaction of people, ideas and hallway decisions... and video chat while good does not cut it.
