As a Taiwanese, I really appreciate the fact Palki and her team covered for the international audience a comprehensive overview of Taiwan! Just a very tiny thing to point out around 1:20, during the Qing dynasty most of the Chinese migrants were actually Hokkien/Hoklo Chinese from the Southern Fujian province, while Hakka was relatively a smaller group.

2:18 Mao didn't win. The Chiang skek was busy fighting the Japanese off in ww2 , after they fought the Japanese, Mao simply tore through the battle exhausted army of Chiang shek. It was a pretty good summary till just before the very end. China said repeatedly it was going for peaceful reunification but will use military means if Taiwan tries to go for independence. So they are not against the status quo, they are against independence. Status quo remains an option. This current government however is pro-independence, hence the tensions.

I am Taiwanese, thank you for this introduction video of Taiwan, the information from the video is fairly correct besides 2:49 . Chiang Kai-shek did bring gold to Taiwan to rebuild financial system in order to feed their 1.5 million refugees which retreated with him from China, but their gold and other assets are far from enough, therefore Kuomintang release New Taiwan Dollars to exchange Old Taiwan Dollars, and exchange rate was 40000(OTD) to 1 (NTD), by doing this, Chiang Kai-shek transfer whole Taiwanese‘s private property into their state owned assets. We Taiwanese DO NOT appreciate Chiang Kai-shek at all, their Republic of China’s government would disappear without Taiwanese’s contribution.

American here, we know all about rebelling against tyranny. One of our founders said “These are the times that try men’s souls: The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like Hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph,” I hope this inspires Taiwan as it did us

This does not mention the real reason why China wants it. The world has 8 choke points and controlling the open ocean around Taiwan means that China cannot get its navy out to protect things like oil tankers. If China cannot control the pacific and Indian Ocean choke points or at least keep them open they can be put under any kind of sanctions any time. Imagine they are restricted from oil and mining equipment like NK. It is about keeping warm water ports open for russia and China and it’s purely strategic If the choke points close they have to accept USD)

In early 90's, he finally was allowed to come back home, HuNan province, located in East center of China, but everything changed. His mother was dead long time ago. (His father was dead even when he was a kid). All his brothers were dead too. He only saw his oldest brother's wife. This is a tragedy in Chinese history and for his generation. U can't change history. What surprises me every time is how quickly "people's opinion" can change, depending on what you feed them. Self determination is more or less an illusion, that the education system or the media can easily manufacture, some times over a decade, some times over night. When someone says "the people want", a lot of the times it really means what the elites want the people want, and most people are conditioned into what they want even if they don't want it before.

I really enjoy this channel and Palki's reporting. It is reporting that is factual, concise, informative/educational, and done without the opinionated and sensationalized commentary like that of Western journalists that is often inaccurate, incomplete, misleading and designed to stir listeners' emotions and sway them in a particular direction. Western (U.S.) news organizations' preoccupation with ratings has led them to behave like entertainment news/talk show hosts instead of factual news reporters. Their reporting has become propagandized. Instead of journalists presenting facts and well-researched information that informs and educates their listeners about an issue, they pick sides of an issue and spin the news in such a way that over time their listeners will only believe that side of the story. And they disparage those with differing viewpoints.

Well, Taiwan is also an unsinkable aircraft carrier on the coast. The Japanese used it to invade China so its not like there isnt a real security concerns.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are also disgusted with the lies from our Federal government. Our media is controlled by Big Tech, the Leftist Loonies and the CIA. I'm 75, served in the USAF for 35 years and have had a belly full of Washington DC and the Leftist/Socialist State governors. They are ripping apart the fabric of our Constitution and the Flag.

@@rvnmedic1968 respect. The hardest part is not being able to tell what are facts and what are lies anymore. You would think with internet it’s hard to lie about things but it’s the opposite. When the vast majority of people are manipulated by believing the lies, they will turn around to the people knowing the truth and call them “brain washed”. It’s interesting to see how this works but this is very sad

This is a nice video for me to understand western view on Taiwan issue. As an ordinary citizen living alongside taiwan straight, I only want to remain status quo and live my own life peacefully. It's frustrating to watch all these politicians wrestling for their polls and endangering regional peace.

It’s military strategies America has been keeping an eye on since WW2, otherwise it won’t do it utmost to support the defeated and retreated opposition party KMT to Taiwan China and keep Taiwan under its wing……as its China’s territory, they have legitimate right to get it back……..

Correct! The CCP taking sweet Taiwan, converting Taiwan to a military port and airbase, as the CCP has done with other small reef "islands" will be the next step the evil CCP needs to conquer the neighboring countries and US.

@@AlphaMale_1 ……😂…… look at the world map where America is. Ask yourself what’s America’s business in Asia? Is America an Asian country? Simply because it has stretched his hand so long to steal and control other countries territory. Do you know America colonized Philippine for more than 40 years? Wikipedia “The period of American colonialization of the Philippines was 48 years. It began with the cession of the Philippines to the U.S. by Spain in 1898 and lasted until the U.S. recognition of Philippine independence in 1946. Do you know how many times America has used Philippine and Philippines for its “Bio/chemical weapons testing” During WW2, part of Philippine was occupied by Japan from 1942-1945…….America’s “Democracy &Freedom” only be bought by people have no knowledge of history just keep in your mind that America has more than 800 military bases and more than 200 military bio labs all over this planet……..ask yourself “why and how” ? Don’t just educate yourself on the bias news stories from the western MSM…….in UK, here, it’s history book they even replaced its 200 years boldly colonization history with Victoria’s glory…….”Freedom” spreading like deadly disease nowadays……

If you are alluding to further CCP expansion, you are correct, and Beijing would not deny that they plan to expand their territory way past Taiwan. Taiwan, to the CCP mind is considered the first string of conquered lands that they plan to consume.
