There was a documentary about pollution caused by the fashion industry in Indonesia that came out in 2019. They make a lot of different types of fabrics there because it's so cheap. The reason it's so cheap is because there are only 6ish standards for "treated" water from the factors compared to the US and EU which are around 80 from what I can remember. People are forced to drink this polluted water. In the documentary, they took hair samples and found carcinogens and heavy metals due to drinking the polluted water. The journalist discovered some of the largest plants supply fabric for H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, etc. The government already knew what was going on, but they're afraid if they add more regulation to water quality, the brands will leave Indonesia. I think the only brand they contacted was H&M and they didn't really care. This is all marketing to make you feel good.

We are well financially speaking but I still get some of my clothes in thrift store and am not ashamed of it. Stuff there have barely been warn, some with the original price tags at times.

Well put over all! It does feed on serious insecurities. Very true but very sad. The fish, Earth and humanity pays for it. Greed, Greed, Greed...

Wear natural fiber garments(hemp, cotton, silk, wool, etc), take good care of them, reuse the fabrics if able, recycle them.

The best way to follow sustainable fashion is to wear second hand clothes and donate/sell our old clothes.

It feels great to be a minimalist and outdated. Next time when I buy a tee for self, Palki your voice shall echo in my ears. As such I am a market enemy, you made me worse. 😊 Thank you (no sarcasm intended). I am going to save this video.

I read it somewhere, the most sustainable clothes you have are already in your wardrobe. Don't buy new, up-cycle your old garments. Fashion is not what Celebs are wearing, it's what you create! Create your own fashion. Support Slow Fashion.

The real fact is that you and me buy new clothes on every month but you know my father buy clothes once in a year. This is fact that we feel ashamed when we wear a dress over and over in different parties but you know many people in my village rearly buys clothes even in a year. I feel that we should be minimalist that is the altimate solution of environment problems.

In my home, old t-shirts are reused as floor mops (Pochha), old sarees as Gudadi (a kind of quilt for babies), old bedsheets as small mattresses for babies, old pants as jhola ( a bag to carry vegetables or other groceries). Babies' nappies (langoti) are always made at home from old soft clothes. There are many more in the list of clothes reusing.

Atleast it's a start! Why take up everything negative! No doubt, Fashion harms but one can't live without it. Consumerism shift for sustainable fashion will drive these companies to actually sustainable. So let's support this ideology!

This is a very serious problem. Government can only do so much. Corporates will continue to cash in on the herd mentality. The only real hope is that the consumers change their mindset and really drive sustainability and minimalism.

Thank you for calling out the fashion industry for harming planetary health, Palki. Fashion companies often claim that wool is a sustainable product, but studies show that sheep farming drives biodiversity loss, soil erosion and desertification. Some ways to dress more sustainably include shopping secondhand, taking better care of clothes and choosing plant-based fibers instead of animal materials.

Exactly why I don't care that much about fashion and more about what to wear at home, travel, church, work or anywhere without showing off. Especially with my clothes worn until they're not useful anymore and needing to be replaced.

No mention of Indian conglomerates and chains involved in fashion especially fast fashion. And though it is easy to blame fashion brands what about millions of people involved in the production chain right from cotton growers to tailors to retail staff in clothes? It is a problem with no easy solutions

A lot of the issue is it is difficult to find good quality clothing. Even expensive designer items are being made cheaply as well. Nothing lasts and we are forced to buy more.

I'm glad that I don't fall into those crazy fashion frames. I have clothing from 20 years ago, even shoes, also I buy only used clothes, made of cotton, wool, linen or viscose. My shoes are made of leather and some summer and summer espandrills are made of canvas/cotton made in Spain by hand, my bags are made of cotton, or leather. But all were previously used and I don't replace them each season. I prefer the classic styles so I can wear them forever, I have been always against fads, I even dressed real old vintage suits from the 1930's and 40's for some years, lovely wool fabrics and excellent designs, fine hand finished clothes.

Wrong! We, human beings are not to blame for this. They will tell you that we, human's, demand this consumerism, but the quality is so poor, that people have to buy each season.....now I'm not talking about those who follow influences....I'm talking about my friends. I last bought a complete wardrobe in 2003/2004, and inherited some of my late sisters clothing. I have bought exactly 3 items since 2004 and a Louis Vuitton Utah Buffalo skin Satchel in 2008. Yes, leather.....because it lasts forever. As for shoes I have bought 2 pairs of Billabong flip flops, was given a gift of Sketchers, and bought 1 pair of sandals. I recently wore a pair of handmade leather sandals which my son exclaimed about, saying, "What you still have those?" Yes, I bought them in 1991 at a flea market in Cape Town. They are in perfect condition. If you buy quality and take good care of your clothing, wear old stuff around the house, you will always look good..... My Zimbabwean domestic lady recently repacked my wardrobe and exclaimed that I had a lot of clothing! 5 shelves, 1 x 1.7metre hanging area, and a large suitcase with the next seasons clothing, is in my opinion, not a lot of clothing. All is neatly hung up, and I weed and give the clothing to my Zimbabwean Domestic to send home to her family. I never have a faded or torn item in my wardrobe. I have lost a lot of weight the past year, and will be taking a lot of my clothes to a designer friend, to have repurposed into designs I've drawn. A nip and a tuck, shorter pants, inserts etc. I know people my church will drop their jaws and think they're new clothes. I will not be buying again, except for my 60th birthday bash next year, when I intend to travel to Ireland, Faroe Islands and Scandanavia. I will need leatherbhiking boots, 2 jeans, 2 tights and a good jacket. That will be the last I buy in this lifetime. You don't need that much people. Stop making the elite richer! Oh I do buy from small local boutiques who source their fabrics on Africa, and only wear cotton. South Africa fortunately has some excellent local brands.

More than governments, people should...especially influencers. Today's show is no doubt an eyeopener that we all need, quite often...all the same, how often do you repeat clothes on your show Palki and the rest of your presenters? Well, charity begins at home, if I/ may say so.

Very true exactly what i pointed and commented as well.i never saw palki repeat her clothes.. new stuff every day and then wardrobe courtesy is shown so its a kind of ad to buy them... practice what you preach palki..
