No one should to change their religion so that's an unreasonable ask. However, language should be mandatory. If they can't communicate then no real integration can occur. Even day to day interactions will be hard. Letting them in is just the start. They would need a lot of education and support to be productive members of society. Otherwise a whole generation would just exist in the margins. So if countries aren't prepared to go the whole way they should be careful about how many they take in.

The key question is why these people want to leave their countries? From all the documentaries I've seen, a large chunk (or might even be the majority) of illegal immigrants cross because of poverty or because they want more opportunities while oppression/discrimination/war comes in as the second reason. It's hard to know why people are illegally migrating cause smugglers always tell the migrants to cast away their passports to make it hard for the country they're illegally migrating to know whether they are really refugees or in it just for the money.

As an Indian, I met a few Pakistanis abroad. I was happy to meet them and told them how much we are so alike and the partition should not have happened. A few shared the same sentiment but some said they agreed with partition. Their reasoning was that Muslims and Hindus have contrasting religious practices so it is good we are partitioned so Muslims have their freedom. The funniest thing was that these people have moved from Pakistan to a Christian country. India is a lot more culturally similar to them than any Christian country but unfortunately they seemed brainwashed. And then they complain about religious freedom after moving to a Christian country.
