What a unique opportunity to have witnessed this feeding experience. What I would be worried is when the pouching gets really out hand and the town corruption starts to show it’s cards and turns into the phrase I wish we would have never exploited this brood stock phenomenon in our own back yard. I would make your money taking people out to feed the giant tunas as a tour guid.

Prince Edward island looks like my ideal paradise. I could be born, raised and die there without ever having to go anywhere else in the world. Love the small town feel. The love and sense of well being only a small town can give you. I grew up and continued to live in a small New Mexico USA town and felt those same feelings. I was a police officer there for years after high school. I eventually moved away to a bigger city and all the small town feel was lost.

Blue fin tuna have also turned up in massive numbers off the UK. We are occasionally seeing some absolutely massive fish as well., maybe this is a world wide resurgence? My theory locally is that the smaller pelagic species, such as herring and mackerel are no longer over fished so there is a substantial food source for the tuna here. My worry is that quotas will be allowed to land and these wonderful fish and will be decimated again.

Mackerel and herring stocks have collapsed in Atlantic Canada from overfishing for lobster bait. Fishing now banned for these forage fish. 59% of the tuna off Atlantic Canada are actually Eastern Tuna, though they look the same. Stocks mixing, looks like a great deal, but it's all that's left, yet fisheries managers like DFO falsely claiming victory and they have tragically and vastly increased quotas at ICCAT since 2016. All commercials fisheries have collapsed. Only lobster left. But that fishery will also collapse soon as you can't catch them without bait.

Tuna left UK waters after the herring were completely fished out. Now Mackerel are being fished out. Bluefin Tuna were never commercially fished on any scale in the UK.

Fisheries management is a primary issue as is ignorance, greed and just being evil. There are many more ecological "crimes" happening out there that are similar to overfishing the Herring stocks.

Southern Bluefin Tuna are not endangered in Australian waters. Heavily managed with most of it farmed these days-the wild stock continues to grow & grow & grow. Their stock numbers are in better shape than they have been since the early 50’s

Great camera work but feeding a wild species is just showing your lack of objectivity and ignorance. The commodifying of what doesn't belong to anyone is sickening. Consumerism and what happened from the 60's onwards in the pursuit of money is beyond reproach. Catch and release in the same place day after day is short sighted. Even landing the occasion big fish has huge effects these are the breeding adults. At some point you have to say enough is enough.

The commercial rod and reel industry could be truly sustainable if fishermen sustainably released the large breeding tuna and there was a size (length) limit preserving the most genetically robust and mature bluefin breeders (like is done tor salmon and trout). In Canada, nobody fishing tuna on quota wants that. They want to kill and conquer the biggest ones for the thrill and vanity photos standing beside fish (too often still alive) hung up in public spectacle on the wharf. It is important to note smaller fatty tuna fetch far more money in Japan so it makes no sense to kill the big ones at all. But now the Japanese market for Canadian tuna has sunk as they do not want the skinny starving tuna we are often seeing now (having also decimated the tuna’s food - mackerel and herring for roe sushi and lobster bait). Hook and release charters adds additional pressure on stocks and many tuna die from being mishandled or trailing broken line; overheated bluefin after a battle can sink to the bottom and are never reported as a death. There is something called the “swimming hook” invented in Canada which allows the fish to be towed behind the boat until it properly revives. And then with a tug of a second rope instantly releases it in good shape to survive. This should be mandatory for hook and release charters but it’s not. Fishing with circle hooks is not enough.
