Now over 30 million have Diabetes. What's even more alarming is that 100 million people, 1 in 3, have Diabetes or are Pre-Diabetic. This is not to mention the 40% of the population that is obese. How is this possible with the non-stop flow of new diets, exercise machines and our general obsession with health and weight loss? We're as unhealthy as ever. The truth is that we have pretty much had everything completely upside-down and backward. FAT traces a detailed history spanning 150 years to show how misinformation and outright lies have become "truth."

It's amazing. I was 458 lbs, severely diabetic. I had been diabetic for 20 years. Taking 250 units of basil insulin and 35 units of fast acting every time I ate, and my last bad AIC was 14. I had a General Dr, Cardiologist, Nephrologist, Gastroenterologist, Endocrinologist, and many other ologists. I saw multiple nutritionists and followed there diet of Oatmeal and Bananas and 100-120 grams of carb for years. It got fatter and sicker than I had ever been in my life, and I was ALWAYS HUNGRY. I had diabetic ulcers, bad knee that needed a replacement, extremely high blood pressure, a torn rotator cuff, I was going blind from retinopathy and macular degeneration. I felt horrible. I was all I could do to get out of bed and get to the coffee port in the morning. I went Keto at first and now I am carnivore. I have lost 170 lbs. I am no longer diabetic. My sugar is around 100-110 before I eat and gets to a maximum of 140 after I eat. I have fasting sugars in the 70's sometime. My knee and shoulder feel great. I can go walk amusement parks and ride coasters from open to close and not sit down or eat for the entire day, and I feel fine, nothing hurts or aches My BP in normal. My blindness has stopped getting any worse and had gotten a little better. I normally just eat once a day, but once in a while I will eat twice a day. I have no use for restaurants or chefs in my life. I just make beef on a grill and eat it in 5 minutes then go get more stuff done! Food just isn't really a big deal in my life anymore. This is how my body is supposed to be.

it is a death sentence and caused your issues. See all the fat is plugging your cells and arteries. causing you to not absorb nutrient's properly. Always feels good to lose weight but your blood markers are screwed. Fat diets have been around for decades and they simply cannot work, nor do they make sense. Humans need fiber and your meat has 0 fiber. Humans are not Homo Carnivorous no matter what you believe tastes so good. Without salts and sugars meat is terrible tasting. Meat has become industrialized, like all the other garbage. Look deeper into human history and you find meat was used for flavoring. The China Study is the most comprehensive diet study ever completed.

This poses risks to human health as well.

That scene really pissed me off. It was like the guy knew of a treatment that was 50 to 70 percent effective....but he also knew that there was no medical drug or procedure that approached those success rates....yet he still would recommend the drugs over diet.

You're better than everyone because you went out and got a degree so when a layman presents evidence contrary to what you were taught you're indoctrinated to disregard it. @@XaqNautilus no, i filter everything that's being taught to me through my own research and oftentimes my mom's who's a food chemist and researcher (and editor for elsevier). i have all the means of information needed to pick my sources and the biochemical and physiological bases to understand the processes that im learning about. that and the professors actually warn us when the information they have to teach us is outdated and point us to better resources

After I started low carb I saw a dietician who also practises in a Sydney hospital and she told me that I wasn't eating enough carbs. She told me that I would lose muscle. I was surprised when she told me that it was okay to have muesli/oats for breakfast. After the appointment I did more research and decided to stick with what I was doing, and cancelled the second appointment. It was with great pleasure that I contacted her after getting my 3 month post low carb blood results and told her that Hba1c was down to 5.2 from 7.0, BP had reduced, I had lost 1/8th of my body weight (without trying, no fasting - 3 meals a day, only gentle exercises and stretching for all over body strengthening) and my cholesterol had improved. After 8 months I have now lost 4.5 inches from my waist (no cheating - I push it out to its maximum) which had been 44 inches. And I've started losing more weight. I noticed the other morning that my feet and ankles are thinner, and I can now touch my hands (top to bottom) behind my back. I have to buy new underwear because what I bought last year are now falling off me!

Yeah but you are still over weight ! Yiu have fat to burn . Once you get to your optimal weight this diet is not the best . You will lose muscle because to not lose muscle you will have to add more calorie in the way of fat . Better to add carbs and easier on the body longterm . You are looking at the benefit and ease of losing weight for an over weight person . See the problems people have had over years of soing this diet . You won’t live as long as you’d like .

@@fcsoldeu5338 Thank you! My ALT liver function has gone from 45 to 22 I plan to get a scan (at the 1 year mark) to compare with my previous scans for fatty liver (which I had for at least 20 years). My goal with my comments is to encourage people who are interested in trying low carb, not to try and convert people from their ingrained beliefs. I gained a lot of encouragement from other commenters when I first changed my diet. My reason for going low carb was to reverse my diabetes and weight loss just happened without trying. I have watched a lot of videos, including Jason Fung, and food documentaries, and I am finding what works for me. I am planning on seeing a low carb savvy doctor soon for a check up to make sure that I'm on the right track.

And yet I have muesli or porridge for breakfast most mornings (which I eat a bit before noon, so it's actually lunch), eat a fair amount of whole-grain bread and potatoes and little meat, and my weight and blood pressure are ideal. I feel light and strong. I usually fast for at least 12 hours and don't snack, eat very little sugar, avoid ultra-processed food, and eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. People are different, and they just to have to experiment with what works for them, but let's think about our impact on the planet.

When I was pregnant I got Gestational Diabetes and I essentially started eating Keto and my blood sugar was well controlled and I never needed insulin for it, and I never gained weight in my 3rd trimester. Gave birth to a very healthy 8 lb 14 oz baby.

Ideally you should only have 10 pounds in excess after you have the baby...anything over that you're overweight and very unhealthy, but in the last 20 years, its hard to find anyone who eats healthy portions to not gain more than 10 pounds over the baby weight.

@@loz480 it has been normal since, and I'm now pregnant again and do not have diabetes this time around. I cut out a lot of things once I found out I was pregnant this time to avoid even the chance of it and it worked!

I was on my way to getting the pre-diabetic talk as I was way out of shape and felt like sh8t all the time. I made the change to keto with intermittent(OMAD) fasting and within 5 months I was down 9 inches/22.86 cm around my mid-section and felt amazing. My co-workers were asking me if I was sick with Cancer or had an eating disorder. I said "yes I was sick and am in the process of cleaning myself up". There's no reason for us to be in a constant fed state. It's like putting dirty gas into your gas tank, when the engine blows you wonder what happened, when you do the same to your body you blow the engine(heart) MI or the CPU with dirty information ending up with a CVA(stroke). We all need to wake up and fix ourselves or we become more of an asset to big pharma and the food industry as a fat and sick population. Good luck to all in your "cleansing" journey

Atherosclerosis occurs when fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products, calcium, and other substances accumulate within the walls of arteries, forming plaque. Several factors contribute to the development of plaque buildup: High cholesterol levels: Elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly known as "bad" cholesterol, can lead to the accumulation of cholesterol in artery walls. LDL cholesterol can become oxidized and trigger an inflammatory response, initiating plaque formation. Inflammation: Chronic inflammation within the arterial walls can damage the inner lining (endothelium) of the arteries and promote the deposition of fatty substances. Inflammatory processes can be triggered by factors such as smoking, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar levels (as seen in diabetes). Smoking: Cigarette smoke contains harmful chemicals that can damage the endothelium and promote the buildup of plaque. Smoking also reduces the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, which is considered "good" cholesterol that helps remove LDL cholesterol from the arteries. High blood pressure: Elevated blood pressure puts strain on the arterial walls, causing them to become damaged and more susceptible to plaque accumulation. Diabetes: People with diabetes often have increased levels of blood sugar, which can damage the endothelium and accelerate plaque formation. Additionally, diabetes is associated with abnormal cholesterol levels, further contributing to plaque buildup. Obesity and poor diet: Excessive body weight, particularly abdominal obesity, and an unhealthy diet high in saturated fats, trans fats, and refined carbohydrates can increase LDL cholesterol levels and promote atherosclerosis. Sedentary lifestyle: Lack of physical activity is linked to a higher risk of plaque buildup. Regular exercise helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels, promotes weight management, and improves overall cardiovascular health.

Omad is the way to go. I just have a high protein high fat lunch after a workout, and I feel great all day! Just fight the nighttime hungers, and you wake up feeling fantastic!

in February of 2022, I was 60 lbs overweight. I ate all the junk, did not read labels, ate soybean oils, canola oils, sugars, a ton of veggies (stir fried in the mentioned oils), potato chips of all varieties, you name it. Today, I weigh 200 lbs...down 45 pounds on a combination of Keto and Carnivore. I don't consult with doctors because they are quacks and are quick to prescribe medicines. Food is the ultimate medicine in conjunction with exercise. STOP eating the ultra-processed junk, eat MEAT and cut carbs and you WILL feel better!

"The body prefers sugar for energy" From what I know about human physiology, sugar can only exist in the blood in a vary narrow range, (about 4.0 to 5.9 mmol/L). Fat in the blood (ketone levels) can be anywhere from 0 to 25 mmol/L. The body doesn't 'prefer' sugar, it needs to get it out of the blood first before it does damage.

I had heard some of this information from other sources but I never heard all the details, facts and studies that are provided in this documentary. I’m going to watch the sequel. As to my own story, I was 200lb. (5’2”), I was on 7 meds for T2D, hypertension, Gerd, EOE, leaky gut, A-Fib, IBS and chronic indigestion. I learned about keto and intermittent fasting at about the same time and made the change to keto overnight. I added in IF a little at a time over a few months. After 6 months of keto, I was off all meds with labs in normal ranges. And no more symptoms of any of the previous conditions! Now, two years later, I went from size 2X to 8 petite. I never want to go back. Thank you for all the great information.

My cousin has lissencephaly (smooth brain) and the ketogenic diet has helped her tremendously. Reduced her seizures a lot. She is now 15.

Yikes. Me too. Its a scary vision that they probably should use more often to wake us up. We have an Aussie orthopedic surgeon who was struck off for recommending low carb. He was sick of sawing legs off. Ouch.

I think its time to focus on what we agree on, not where we differ. When we have gotten rid of fast food, processed food and high sugar drinks we can debate whether oatmeal is good for you or how much meat or fruit is wise. I feel like health is paralyzed by what we disagree on, but we could make a big difference focusing on homemade meals made from single ingredients like our grandmothers made. My health has improved a lot by just shopping the outside of the grocery store and not buying anything that comes in a box/bag. My labels contain one ingredient, maybe two. Let’s start with the common sense stuff. For people with chronic illness (including diabetes and obesity), recommending elimination diets so they can track what worsens their signs and symptoms can be helpful.

I think you are missing the mark here. As far as I can tell, everyone is already in agreement on ultra-processed food, frying oil, and sodas being bad, the final battle really is vegans wanting to eliminate animal foods, and ketovores peacefully avoiding their rice and grains

@@fredrik1337 Proponents of whole foods, plant-based diets, want us to eat the healthiest of foods while eliminating or avoiding those with risks or bad side effects for two reasons, to promote our health and avoid chronic diseases and to save the planet from ecological and environmental disaster, and to care and love for animals. Animals do not need to die for humans to eat a healthy diet. We don't need to eat them at all.

There are many vegans and vegetarians who did the best they could to avoid processed foods, and still ended up malnourished with autoimmune disorders (beef and butter gal, mykaila peterson, Dr. Judy, Rebekah farmer just to name a few). There’s also an ex-vegan body builder in another country (forget which) whose whole family, including his wife and child were vegan. He was very well known in the vegan community and became known for providing advice on how to be as healthy as possible and grow muscle on a vegan diet. In the meantime, he’s watching his vegan friends have children who don’t grow as well as children who eat animal products. He also started to have issues with his child, including his teeth coming in brown. My sister, who did her best to be vegetarian from the age of 11, is a poster child for disease. She has multiple immune disorders, cancer, depression, low thyroid, etc. and her son who’s been a vegetarian since birth, and isn’t even 10 years old yet, has had eczema, IBS, and is taking medication for depression and anxiety. He’s not even 10 years old! For many, if not all, humans, meat is an important part of a healthy diet.

There is an increasing nr of people who believe that fats ( animal ) are a far better energy source comparing to carbs., I am in year 3 of keto/carnivore nutrition and if my metrics changes I will adapt , until them I am not touching carbs ( as far as I can avoid them ) any time soon . @@franzjosefmueller-alban509 if fats really were the preferred source of fuel for the body, humans would be carnivores because most of that fat would have to come from animal sources. But we're herbivores much more than we are carnivores, so why would a herbivore eat mainly or only fats from animal products? Btw, if in doubt, look this up for explanation on whether we humans are carnivores or herbivores: SCAVENGERS or HERBIVORES? Human Diet Explained - Dr. Milton Mills. It'll help you understand this subject better and this is key for you to realize how wrong you are about your diet.

@@davidtsw Just for reference here. My VO2 max is 53 , my metabolic age is 35, my body fat is currently at 12% , I have a 6 pack , run half marathons with no more than water and electrolytes. Your Dr. Mills is at least 100 lbs overweight .. is that your opining of health ? Is he your reference for a healthy diet ? You're a herbivore, after all :) Just look at your jaw and compare it to other herbivores vs carnivores. Or the digestive track. So many similarities to other herbivores. In 2019 I discovered Intermittent Fasting and the Low Carb Diet. It took about a year, but I went from Obese Level 2 to normal weight, my health improved and all my blood test marks went from bad to normal. When my Doctor saw me after the change, she asked how I did it. I described Intermittent Fasting and the Low Carb Diet, but her reaction was to try to convince me to switch back to a Low Far/High Carb Diet. Wow, the very Diet that had made me fat and sick, she wanted me to return to. I don't think she ment anything bad for me, but it showed how the Medical Profession is filled with bad information.

I was pre-diabetic on my way to start taking medication which I refused. I did my research and I was already familiar with the Keto diet I did not know it had the potential of reversing diabetes. I also have started doing intermittent fasting which has it's great benefits as well. My brother is a type 1 diabetic and every time I can possibly can I keep telling him to stop eating carbs or reduce his intake. Also for my niece to stop eating so much junk/fast food since diabetes runs in our family. It shocked me when he told me he isn't worry about her because his doctor told him type 2 diabetes only develops after age 40!!! I know this is not true since we are seeing it in younger kids every day. It is amazing how irresponsible some doctors can be , your health is in your hands and in your hands only.

To the question why the doctor had not proposed a keto diet for the epileptic child, he says: "Because we had not tried all medications yet". What??? I am in shock! I had autoimmune disease, gained 20lbs, had IBS, and was sick for about 7-8 yrs. Then I did the Keto diet, intermittent fasting & within 12-18 months lost 20 lbs, fixed autoimmune problems. My energy went through the roof....could do treadmill at 8-10 MPH at 4-6% incline for sprints, 10-20 seconds my HR never went over 150 & I was not out of breath. WHY are people sick? Because Gov't & Special Interest groups manipulate the data & don't educate the public they program the public.

As a nutritionist I was taught that the ideal is to give 50% of the daily calories carbohydrates. Seeing that this did not work and most of the time the patients did not improve I decided to deal with low carb diets and keto diet. I can really see their lives changing now. We were taught a bunch of lies.

I cannot agree. Incas were primarily vegan/vegetarian for thousands of years with out all the chronic issues, obesity, and diabetes. They eat little or no meat just like the other long living ,healthiest communities to ever inhabit the earth (Amish, Adventists, Mennonites, and those in blue zones). Diabetes and obesity is caused by insulin resistance which is the build up of animal fats in cells that are not meant to store it. This causes insulin levels to rise and glucose levels in the blood to rise because it cannot enter into the cells There is much evidence supporting this information and is also backed by the ADA? Low carb high fat diets are diets! - Atkins, south each, zone diet, paleo, ketogenic, carnivore, lion. All have the same effect and increase levels on insulin resistance. Same narrative for 60 years later with different names to romanticize that no fiber feeling? A diet from poor life style habits and now you'll be considered healthy? Even the World Health Organization has been putting this out there for 14 years! Stop consuming meat and dairy. Can you say addicted? Wonder why so many are sick? The last reason people are sick is from a lack of protein in the West!

Within 6 months of severe type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance I was able to reverse it with low carb/keto carnivore diet. I have finally lost weight, most of my PCOS symptoms have disappeared, I have low inflammation levels, I look like I began aging backwards after eating this way and my mental health has improved. This has become a lifestyle for me and my quality of life has improved significantly!

I am thankful that my doctors have been supportive of low carb diets. Maybe they didn't get much training on nutrition in school, but it is apparent they watch videos, read books and listen to their patient's successes. Thank you so much for posting this informative video.

Thank you for publishing this. I think inflammation from sugar ingestion causes many health problems including depression. I went on a Keto/low carb diet and, in addtion to losing weight (30lbs), have cut my ssri intake in half-after 40+ years of suffering from depression. This was totally unexpected. Wow.

I've been eating a high fat low carb diet for 5 months now and I feel great. I've always been fairly thin but eating this way has helped with other issues I've had. My acne cleared up and my eczema doesn't flare up as much. I've notice that too much dairy and stress makes my skin flare up, but it clears up within days. In comparison with a high carb/ sugary & low fat diet my acne was bad, my eczema would get worse, and my face was always bloated. Plus, I would fall into a food coma every time I ate, and I would snack constantly, I was never satiated. Now, I eat whole foods, plenty of fat and fatty meats plus green veggies. I limit my fruit intake but do consume a moderate amount of berries. I am not strict because I like sugar once in a while. I give into my cravings but not in excess. I've also notice if I consume carbs or any type of process sugar in large quantity my body reacts in a negative way. I really enjoy this way of eating because I feel my best!

I eat a high carb diet. It’s fine. It’s about calories overall and that’s what a lot of the biased documentaries skim over. Of course free sugars are not good but nothing wrong with high fibre complex carbs. There’s a lot of nutrition in there and all the veg that some of the doctors on here are labelling as bad. I do despair

All I know is I'm 50 and I ate a lot of meat and potatoes growing up, I was active and a healthy weight. I got older, was less active and started eating "healthy". I was always taught calories in/out, so I was practically starving myself and thinking my weight gain was all my fault because I wasn't active enough... Except I was active... Started doing my own research about pari-menaupause, hormones, and weight gain. Started cutting out sugars and carbs a little at a time. Now, I'm very low carb, primarily only eat whole foods (meat, veggies, fat). I only eat OMAD and have lost 4inches and 10lbs in about 6weeks. I sleep better and have more energy, which means now I'm even more active. I still need to lose about 40lbs, but finally feel like I'm going in the right direction.

@@sharonboyden5660 - tell that to all the people who were vegan for years and ended up sick or those who got sick from the SAD, tried the vegan diet in their desperation to feel better, and got worse. Carbohydrates are the ONLY macronutrient NOT necessary for survival. I’m not saying that all people should abstain from all fruits and vegs, but I am saying that meat certainly seems to help people heal from a lot of things. If you want to be vegan, go ahead, but don’t pretend everyone can thrive on a plant-based diet. It’s not true.

Fun fact: its sheer arrogance to assume everyone thrives on keto diets. Many people cannot convert fat into energy and will slowly begin to show signs of starvation. (Me over 12 months). That lady in the middle part, who's been told to feed her son pancakes and French fries even though he's diabetic, that's a perfect description of my boss's diet. He's diabetic and it's pancakes or waffles for breakfast or a huge bowl of breakfast cereal, hamburgers and French fries for dinner or, well, every meal if his wife let him. It's "one foot on the brake and one foot on the gas" and I've watched him over the years go from oral medication to injections to wearing a continuous monitor, and the disease just keeps progressing because There's Nothing You Can Do(tm).

I have chatted with three friends who are low-bard/high-fat, and in each case (mine included), we have lost weight, improved biomarkers, no more pain, increased energy, and mental calmness. Very small number; however, 100% effective for that number. Great doc - and Fat 2 was equally excellent! Thank you!

I was diagnosed with diabetes last year, blood tests were horrible. I switched to a 90% fruit and vegetable diet with a bit of lean meat for dinner. Most of fat only came from almonds, walnuts, nuts and seeds. Last visit my doctor was on vacation so another doctor looked at my latest blood tests and asked me what I was on metformin and rosuvastatin for? "You don't have diabetes or high cholesterol" I had to tell him to look at my former tests.

i had severe skin problems (neurodermatitis) in my childhood (80s) and my mom put me on a no Sugar or Lactose diet and it went away. Still dont have the need for sweets other people seem to have. The Doctors just wanted to bathe me in cortisol all day. Luckily my mom is a bit hippie

I noticed the same thing when I went on the keto diet for my epilepsy. I didn’t even think about it or considering it happening. I usually have break outs on my cheeks of acne, but one day I just noticed my whole face was literally clear. I changed nothing other than my diet and now I even have a less intense skin care routine and my skin is always good now.

Interesting. I’m definitely not Vegan, but I’m in the best shape of my life staying away from fatty foods (especially saturated fats). High protein, low fat, medium carbs. I feel stronger than ever. Dropped 70lbs and shredded my way down to 7% body fat! I feel amazing! Fatty foods made me feel lazy and lethargic

If people go to a neurologist now about a seizure, all these years later you're still never told about about the ketogenic diet. This should be told to you first, before any drugs are even suggested. The drugs are dangerous and can do sereous harm. They should be the last consideration, not the first.

It's so hard to be sugar free when they stuff it in everything. It pretty much means you gotta cook just about everything. No rolls when you go out to eat. Sugar and carbs there. Plus, I'm a musician by trade and traveling and eating well is even harder. I wonder about sourdough bread, but it has the word bread in it. I finally quit mountain dew, and I work out several times a week (martial arts) but I'm still heavier than I wanna be and my energy level is low. I'm cautious about starting a diet like this but this presentation is very persuasive.

Sourdough is okay to eat because it is predigested. The body doesn't have to do much to absorb the nutrients vs. pasta which is made from unfermented grains is very hard to digest and it all just turns to glucose.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a month ago. My doctor suggested going on Keto diet.Since I started it I feel great and I have loads of energy. I've lost 13 lbs,too. I can't wait to do next lab tests and see if they're better. I am also doing 8:16 model Intermittent fasting

I quit eating sugar (sweets and added sugars) 12 days ago and already lost 8lbs. Sugar causes heart disease. That was my motivation. Any physician will tell you that diabetes is a "coronary artery disease equivalent." Meaning if you get diagnosed with diabetes, they will assume you also have coronary disease even if you don't know it yet. Diabetes is a disease of high blood glucose. Sugar is the root of the problem with both diabetes AND coronary artery disease. Quit sugar, reduce your risks of getting these diseases. It's pretty simple. Sugar is unnatural and unnecessary for human life. Eat it on your birthday or one or two other occasions each year, but outside of that, avoid it like the plague.

I went through the exact same experience as Charlie throughout the Los Angeles hospitals. Unfortunately I was part of the third that the ketogenic diet didn’t work for, but it should have been the first suggestion.

@@toni4729 Raw meat is delicious! Just make minced meat as beef tatar or thinly sliced as carpaccio. In European countries we eat it a lot. We even eat minced salted pork. When I was a child, I would occasionally eat raw liver. Today I live keto, I am 63 and people take me for a woman in her early forties. No wrinkles, smooth skin.

When this film discusses how much training in nutrition doctors get in medical school it is absolutely true. I have worked in the medical field for over 35 years and have had many discussions with many doctors that I trust and respect over the years. The average doctor has had about 3 hours of training in medical school on nutrition and nothing on the use of herbal therapy or homeopathic or holistic medicine. I am a physical therapist by training. A great friend who is a Dr. and has written 3 best selling books on nutrition and is a world renowned cardiac surgeon learned everything he knows because he was very intrigued about the other health issues, especially that the patients he was doing heart surgery on had. Most of these issues originated in the digestive system (the gut). He learned about nutrition because he decided he had to. He told me once that the pharmaceutical companies are so ingrained in the medical schools due to huge donations and that they even provide some of the instructors for the programs who push the use of medicines approach on students. This is what they learn. Most Drs. will not speak out publicly about it because they do not want to be a target of these industries. These programs are run by the pharmaceutical indue stirs just like the food manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies run the FDA. It will be very hard to change much of the information because these deep pocket companies are very entrenched into these agencies and institutions. As far as discussing diet with most Drs. you might as well be talking about it with your neighbor. They would rather write you a prescription. You need to educate yourself. Some MDs are in the know and are willing to try things other than medications for their patients but you have to find them. Thank you for this incredible film! It is 100% right on.

Thank you for making this documentary. I am also faced with adversity with my child being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and our NHS dietician shutting me down when I am against the recommended allowance of carbohydrate in the British Well Eating guide. It is nearly 50% of a meal's plate that is recommended, pasta, grains, breads, potatoes. I cannot believe what I am hearing and seeing. My son does not want to inject himself with insulin just so he can eat those foods. He has made the decision to inject himself with insulin when necessary. At the moment I can't get him on a totally low carb diet because I am being told that is not sustainable. I am being told it isn't good to do that. But I do my best to educate him. I do my best to offer foods that are low in carbohydrates and highly nutritious. We have cut sugary treats to nothing, we have cut high carbohydrate snacks to nothing. And the frequency of eating has been cut as well due to cutting the carbs and decreasing the craving for those foods, decreasing the feeling of needing to eat every four hours. I just want the best for him. I am hearing that his antibodies test came back negative. Meaning that he is most likely a type 2 diabetic. I am feeling like there is hope. That we can reverse this disease.

So glad you are going against the terrible official advice about diet. I’ve had type 1 diabetes for nearly 40 years. 4 years ago I completely changed the way I eat. Very low carb. Now have the best HbA1c results ever. All the best to you and your son. Keep learning. Keep following your instincts about what is best for your child. No one should ever follow the “dose for what you eat” advice. It’s insane.

Because veganism is more like a religion to them than a dietary advice. Honestly, there're researches that show different people react differently to different diets, and having keto as an option should be celebrated rather than demonized. I’m wired to eat meat and avoid sweets. Vegetables are just for decoration on the plate. Carbs just get in the way of meat space in my stomach! I’m doing pretty well as I approach 50. All health markers are absolutely perfect and I’m healthier than anyone I know.

vegetables serve an important function of keeping your gut bacteria in balance with prebiotic fiber, not too much or you'll get gas and bloating, but not too little or you'll see die offs of essential bacteria which can lead to other health problems think of it this way, the meat is for you, and the veggies are for your stomach
