One of my favorite little details in this episode is that you can see a growing pile of Physics and Chemistry books next to Stan during the montage of him standing in front of the mirror over the years after taking over the Mystery Shack. Despite his whole family lambasting him as a good-for-nothing idiot, and despite it taking him 30 years, he put in the time and effort to actually learn enough scientific knowledge to figure out Ford's portal and get it working again. He may not have as much natural talent/intellect as Ford, but damn if his determination isn't amazing.

One thing that people dont really think about is the family background and how sad Stanley’s story actually is. Think about it, in the flashback sherby was still a baby, and the fact that mabel and dipper didn’t know about Ford means that Stanley was completly errassed from the family, like Sherby was never told that stanley even existed. The twins’s parents thought they were sending them to Ford, the nerd responsible adult Ford, which means no one from the family has ever visited Gravity falls since Ford left for collage. The twins being sent to Stanley’s house was probably the first contact he’s had with the family in 30 years. Which makes the scene in the season 1 finale where grunkle is calling the twins’s parents even sadder, he is talking to this part of his family that he has never met and that doesn’t even know he exists. No one after Ford know’s that he even exists.
@valentinkambushev49682 жыл бұрын
He probably went to the wedding of Dipper and Mabel's parents (because it wouldn't be a wedding if you don't invite relatives you know next to nothing about) and was probably there for the twins' birth. But yes, it's clear that he barely knows his family.
@Wolf61192 жыл бұрын
Just a slight correction, it’s Shermie, not Sherby - most likely a shortening of “Sherman” ? It’s also not completely clear if the baby we see in the flashback is indeed Shermie him/herself, or if Shermie is actually the OLDER sibling and the baby we see is actually his/her child, and therefore one of Dipper and Mabel’s parents. Cause if the baby was meant to be Shermie then Ford and Stan would have to be almost 20 years older than the twins’ grandparent, which would either make them REALLY old (which we know they aren’t) or it would mean that both Shermie and his child had kids at really really young ages. The timeline is a little wonky in that respect.
@valentinkambushev49682 жыл бұрын
@@Wolf6119 considering the fact that Dipper and Mabel are still "Pines" Shermie is most likely a man and the baby is probably the twins' dad.
@Napstablooky2 жыл бұрын
@@Wolf6119 well it’s possible Shermie had kids at 20, then their kids had kids at 20, it’s very possible that the twins are in their 50s to 60s based on how long Stan has been trying to open the portal and how long it was before he even saw his brother again before the opening.
@Lockfire12 жыл бұрын
It seems hard to believe shermie wouldn’t at least know he existed even if they may have never truly met, like there’s a side of my family who stem from the older brother of my grandpa, my grandpa is a twin coincidentally, and while we rarely talk to or about them, I still know that side of the family exists

There’s a few interesting things. You normally get so sucked in by Stanford’s appearance you assume that things fell on Stanley’s fault for the events. But when you really pay attention, almost all of it truly was on Stanford. His science project was so unstable it all shorted out from an indirect table smack. And as the builder, he would likely know how hard it was to keep it stable. And it’s not Stanley’s style to go covert sabotage, he’d more likely punch it or throw it and break it completely. And Stanley even put everything he saw messed up back in place and TRIED to make sure the project was fine. And his reaction got Stanley DISOWNED. Stanley didn’t have ANYTHING when he was kicked out, hence why he resorted to all his gambling and grifting. THAT was on Stanley he chose that path, but to actually have enough to LIVE, you can see why. What happens when he’s called to Stanford? He’s told remember our treasure hunting dream? Split it up, I refuse to tell you why, and go to the edge of the world. By YOURSELF. Then when Stanley decides to burn it (which fair considering Stanford didn’t let him know in a way he understood and it was technically a solution) and instead Stanford burns HIM (on accident) and the retaliation leads to the portal incident. And Stanley was smart enough to ACTUALLY get him out, and spent 30 years of never giving up to get him out. And the 1st thing he does when he sees Stanford is try to hug him. Only to be punched in the face and be told “You should’ve known better than to save me” Stanley might be a lowlife, but he cares FAR greater than he shows with the lengths he is willing to go to back up his brother.

As clever as Ford undoubtedly is, he consistently shows severe tunnel vision, both in the flashbacks and the later episodes. Clever enough to build a working transdimensional gateway, but he didn't think to build basic failsafes for it in case it went wrong (look how much harder it was to turn the portal *off* in Not What He Seems than it was to turn it on in Gideon Rises.) He was able to save McGucket from the portal, but apparently never checked in on his obviously traumatized assistant while McGucket gradually wrecked his own brain with the memory gun, a process that seems like it started *before* he was sucked into the portal. And by refusing to let Stan burn his notes, he prioritised his research over the survival of every living being in the universe. I don't think Ford is actively malevolent or unfeeling, but he repeatedly fails to think things through.

One thing I like about this show is whenever there's a story that has a mystery, usually they try to have this big plot twist that reveals everything that completely subverts expectations and changes the status quo. But for Gravity Falls, it actually informs the mystery it already establishes and opens new ones. For example, with the line "Stan is not what he seems," I was afraid it was going to be something like he isn't actually a greedy conman at all and it was all to hide his true intentions and motivations. But instead, the show really gives him a sad backstory that shows his greediness came from a necessity to just survive. Nothing about his character really changes except that we understand him more.

While twins can be passed down genetically, what Aaron said about his mum saying that he is more likely to have twins is wrong, because it has to be passed down through the mother of the potential twins. The gene that effects the probability is a gene that makes a woman/afab person more likely to release more than one ovum at a time during ovulation, making fraternal twins more likely (identical twins are completely random and are not effected by genes). So while Aaron himself is not more likely to have twins, if he has that gene he could potentially pass that gene to any daughter he might have, and that daughter could be more likely to have twins. To give another example, my grandmother had fraternal twins, so she potentially has a gene that makes her, and the women/afab people in my family that have descended from her, more likely to release multiple ovums during ovulation, so I could potentially be more likely to have twins. My brother could have the gene, but that doesn't affect the probability of his partner giving birth to twins if he has kids, but if he has a daughter, that gene could still be passed down to my niece.

Now that you know that Gruncle Stan has a twin brother, the headhunters episode has a whole new meaning of deepness and sadness added to it when you realize he wasn’t sad about his wax figure dying, but it was actually symbolizing his long lost brother :(

Man I feel bad for Stan. He spent 30 years trying to save his brother and he probably dream of reuniting with his brother. Only to get punched in the face and then told to be kicked out of the house and out of his brothers life after the summer.

There's a theory that when Stanford is on the other side he meets Rick from Rick and Morty and is apart of rick's crew back fighting the bug guys and doing other stuff blah blah blah for 30 years. And also in this episode you Sanford in the past and his portal sucked up a cup, pencil and book. And in Rick and Morty I don't know what episode but those same thing come through a portal.

I was hoping that someone would mention this and i would have waited till the finale. It was more of homage to GF but it's sorta like an unofficial canon. Even better with RnM end as of now they can even tie it the two universe more if they wanted. SPOILERS Like that the Stans operate outside the Rickverse since in theirs Ford is smarter aka the Ricks can't rule.

How ingenious this series is. The scene at the end that Dipper and Mabel are afraid to end up like Stanley and Ford. Dipper loves mystery and mystery just like Stanford Mabel likes to do nonsense and laugh and usually she does not act seriously like Stan, that's why Mabel is afraid to say goodbye to Dipper and other things will happen in this context, in fact this series talks about the chemistry between the Alex Hirsch brothers who also has a sister, who hinted at it and wrote Mabel like her.

About the memory gun - there's a page about wither the gun or the blind society in the journals, and Ford wrote the journals so there must have been a period of time where mcgucket left Ford and started wiping his memory (because of seeing inside the portal) before Ford ended up falling into the portal. :)

21:21 Technically yes per say? In the physical journel, basically Ford enter the mutlivere of madness. In one of the multiverses, he came across a world where Stanley did what Ford had wanted with the journel and Bill never enter their world as that universe Ford build a radar barrier thing. The Ford we know explained his situation to that multiverse Ford and gave him that gun as a parting gift as our Ford continue his multiverse travelling a way back home!

I'm sure it's obvious to most people, but I've also always felt that this episode paired with the 'throw away line about the twins "getting along unnaturally well" from last episode explained perfectly why Grunkle Stan held the younger twins at arms length through a portion of season one.

What always makes my head hurt is how to relate the story about Stan learning to box to this. It’s his memories, and it does connect to how he’s trying to make Dipper tough enough to fight back when he needs to. But the idea that Stan was a wimp and needed glasses just… feels closer to Ford.
@josmonlee132 жыл бұрын
I mean after he hit that guy people might’ve seen him as less wimpy and he might’ve tried to cultivate an image for himself as a tough guy and might’ve stopped wearing his glasses and started wearing different clothes, also could be a vanity thing my own sister won’t wear the glasses she needs unless she’s reading or driving

If you want to know where Ford has gone for 30 years, how does he know about the memory gun, or more simply if you want to learn more about Ford's research; I recommend you to buy the official book "Journal 3", which answers many questions ... plus since you like to crack code 😜, this book is full of symbols to decipher thanks to the wheel on the "Trust no one" page (I say this here because it took me a long time to figure out how to decrypt them myself 😅). Also, the sentence that says Old Man Mcgucket: 1) is the same one that says during the episode "the society of the blinde eye". 2) it is actually a sentence that must be decoded with the Caesar code; in fact if written and translated it says: "Bill Chiper, triangle!" if you search on the internet there are people who confirm that it is true ...
