Yes Very important thing to say is : whenever they see Dipper do immoral things, they see them funny, normal or the right thing to do (like Stan shot, shoving to Pacifica's face that her family weren't the founder of gravity falls and Mabel took the mature decision not to or arrogantly rubbing his victories in Mabel’s face) but whenever they see Mabel does immoral things as well (like blackmail), they see them wrong, get irritated and hate her. While it's true that Dipper did give a lot up for her, she was willing to do things for him too. She saved him from some *really* bad crap in certain scenarios. She's definitely not a bad sister, she just gets a bit in her own head sometimes. Even in the journal, she wrote the entry about the Bipper incident, and said she felt really bad. She could've saved Dipper from that horrible mess but was so obsessed with her show that her brother literally got possessed and she didn't even notice. She felt super bad about the whole thing and even wrote "I.O.U some ice cream, on me."

honestly man, i've noticed both the twins can be selfish at times, which shows they have flaws. mabel sometimes shows a sense of self righteousness, or at least believing she is pure when in reality she gets ahead of herself and doesn't always think of consequences or of others. dipper trips over himself a lot trying to prove he's older then what he really is, because he wants to grow up faster while mabel doesn't. and they both obsess over crushes. they act like siblings would, fight like siblings would (i've had instances of fighting with my own sister, we've both felt bad for what we do and say sometimes but we move past it) and it's overall neat to see

That being said I can agree with both sides. Watching the show again, I realized Mabel isn't that bad, especially how arguably both twins were selfish at times, so it's nuanced. The only thing that really bothered me was the whole Dippy fresh thing and sock opera episode felt messed up, but even so, its to show that Mabel isn't mature yet because she doesn't want to be and is selfish because she can't/doesn't want to let go. It's quite clear that Mabel fears change and growing up, and that she's still learning. Same with dipper: they're both only 12 and still discovering themselves after all.

It really irritates when people talk about her as she is the worst sister, they relate to Dipper too much, Weirdmageddon was not her fault as she was mentally destroyed, all her dreams about high school come to ruin, her best friends wouldn't come to her birthday, her pet pig wouldn't come home with her (deleted scene) and she felt so lonely and wouldn't be supported however she still has her brother but at that moment she completely lost it when she overheard that he wouldn't come home with her leading her to give the rift to Bill (possing Blendin), true she knew it belonged to her brother but she was told he wouldn't notice it was missing believing that she would have few days of summer before she leaves at the end when Dipper gave the speech in s2 ep19, she realized she would be supported by people who are close to her rather her brother, that’s why she told him take the apprenticeship willing to live apart from him if that would make him happy and Dipper himself rejected it as he loves his sister so much and wanted to grow up with her. At the end she does grow up as a character like her brother. This my opinion feel free to agree or disagree

The amount of people trying to say mabel isnt selfish here is crazy, bill even calls out how many times dipper has to sacrifice himself for mabel and even after several episodes of learning this it stays the same, they both have selfish moments but it is far from balanced. Mabel isn't toxic but is extremely selfish, their were multiple occasions where she saw her brother being in a near death or having his soul trapped scenario and took it as a joke or didn't wanna do anything because then she wouldn't get what she wanted, even in the end when it wasn't her fault that she didn't know what the rift did she still gave something she knew was her brothers away so she could enjoy summer longer, and this was after all the previous "learning" episodes, heck even in the bubble she didn't wanna leave until dipper apologized. Even in "sock opera" she was going to give bipper the book until he asked who would sacrifice everything for their dumb sibling and only then did she realized how much dipper sacrifices for her. But then, she goes back to the same selfish way not too far later. Im not saying other characters havent been selfish but theyve changed from the consequences of selfishness and mabel even so far exceeds any other character in the show selfishness wise

That's like breaking something and then fixing it and doing the same over and over and then saying "I'm not bad for doing this because I faced my consequences and fixed the problem" yet not learning from it. She only makes up for the mistake after it's been done when she had plenty of chances in several scenarios to stop before making it worse, and then after seeing the result and what she causes she acts the same way in a different solution all throughout the series. Dipper is based on Alex himself, we see him Dipper or should I say inspired character by Alex gets mocked all the time by his sister who is inspired by his own sister Ariel, by his great uncle. Stan and Mabel both got away from facing the consequences after they laughed at Dipper loud in front of the entire restaurant after he failed the manly test instead of supporting him but at the end, he completely forgot what they did to him and became happy instead but of course Mabel (like always) ignored his feelings by removing his first chesthair knowing that he was being insecure. And again they both got away from facing the consequences by mocking him for his height and his voice and they didn't see what they did was wrong. Stan favors Mabel over Dipper as he spares her from hard chores and wanted to make Dipper feel the same pain giving toxicity as his own father flibrick gave him,he constantly calls her nicknames while he doesn't to him and Dipper respect them all the time but they reward him by mocking him. The writers wanted to show us being mocked, favored over, humiliated, mistreated by your own relatives, is something we should consider it something good not bad at all. In other words, the more your relatives mock you, the stronger you become. Which is beyond ridiculous. As you see if Alex thinks the audience were laughing at the jokes in the show, he is wrong. They are actually laughing at his stupidity and his inability of writing good characters besides Dipper since he is based on him.

People who complain about Mabel's selfishness in "The Time-Traveler's Pig" always seem to forget the moment at the end where she sics Waddles on Robbie. Dipper's smile in that moment is priceless.

Exactly! They always seem to forget that she cares about him and his happiness. After he brought Waddles back to her (perhaps that was a little selfish of her), she repayed him by embarrassing Robbie making him happy. It is really irritating how people keeps saying that she never returns the favor. If what they said is true, then she wouldn't bother to show any gratitude, repay him or never cared about his happiness at all! Right?

And like.. Mabel was definitely in the right in that episode, too. She formed a genuine bond with Waddles and loved him with all her heart. Yet Dipper was willing to throw that away over the childish idea that if he won the stuffed animal for Wendy, she'd never go out with Robbie and would fall in love with him instead. In truth, we know that wouldn't have happened. Robbie would've inevitably tried asking her out again at a better time and or Wendy would've rejected Dipper like she did in the bunker episode. It's almost like the people who got mad at Mabel over that episode didn't take that into account and treat Dipper like he wasn't being selfish too lkdfj

She is always supportive whenever Dipper needs her! Yes she has selfish and bad moments but like Dipper, she also ends up doing the right thing and faces the consequences. Let’s not forget ford held a grudge on Stan for 30 years cause of a misunderstanding and a school project and Mable forgave gidion and even showed concern when he was in a cage who tried to kill her and her family but she still did not hold a grudge they were cool but the end of the summer She tries to help even her enemies now that’s a good person

Mabel is not really a bad person as a lot of people claim, she even wanted to be friends with Pacifica despite the latter was rude to her and supports her brother whenever he needs her and grateful to his support. When she called Dippy Fresh more supportive, she didn't mean to say that as she was mad at Dipper thinking that he forgot all support she gave him and abandon her and after that she was willing to stay apart from him (letting him take the apprenticeship) when she realized she won't be alone and will be supported even when her brother is not around. This is my opinion how she grew as a character.
