I was an OG superfan from when the show originally aired and I completely agree. When people say “Oh it seemed like there was supposed to be three seasons” people respond “Well the ending was perfect!”. But when I say the show seemed like it was supposed to have three seasons, I mean like there was supposed to be more before we arrived at said ending. Hirsch even admitted that things like the Cipher wheel, which had been teased since episode 1 since it was in every theme song, were never set in stone on what their significance would be to the plot. I feel like from the jump, they had it planned out that, okay, the author is Stan’s twin brother. But the actual details were more thrown together as they wrote the show. For example, Bill started off as a one time character and was never originally meant to be the main villain of the show with a more fleshed out character or motivations. That means that it wasn’t originally planned either for the author (Ford) to have this whole backstory with Bill either. So basically, since there were a lot of plot developments that came to be during the show’s airing, they didn’t know back when they decided how many seasons the show would have if that would be enough episodes to fully flesh these storylines out, because those storylines did not even exist yet.

That is a clickbaity title if I ever saw one. But it's understandable on why you did the title. I do agree with your points (even if I liked season 2) though except for two things. The Sci-Fi and the season three would be terrible. Sci-Fi has been a psuedo theme for Gravity Falls even in Season 1. Time Travel IS sci-fi, the robot IS sci-fi even the clones are. Rumble has technological aspects. It's just that in Season 2, it's amplified to show that Ford is a genius and to solve more of the show, it's more used as a tool instead of a thing to replace the woodsy feel of the show. And from the looks of it, you liked it expect for some parts of season 2B, which I agree. Some parts of 2B made me roll my eyes (Roadside Attraction). But it's been confirmed that there were MORE plot driven ideas for episodes but they were scrapped because of time restraints. I feel like they would've planned Season 2 and 3 WAY better if they had the time. I don't think there'll be a Stanchurian Candidate or it'll just be done better if given more time. It's literally evident parts of Season 2 was done under pressure and that harmed parts of the show. Also I find it funny that other cartoons just fall off after a huge episode, even 90s and 2000s cartoons such as Danny Phantom, Winx Club, and Dexter's Laboratory come to mind. It's surprising Gravity Falls partially saved itself in a net. Regardless like you said, I love the show to my heart, but some things could be better.

I've always seen that "tonal dissonance" of Ford bringing in sci-fi elements to a more mythical folksy show as purposeful. It's to emphasize how much he doesn't belong there, changed from his time in other dimensions, and to never let the viewer forget that Stanford is at heart a scientist. It's in perfect opposition to Stan, who leans into the mythical mysterious side and is disinterested in science. I think the writers wanted to really emphasize how different these two Stan's are in the beginning of season 2 due to the limited time they had, which led to an *over-emphasization* of these "sciencey" aspects. The comparison with Ford and Rick at first is very interesting and the point that it makes the characters OP is definitely valid, but Ford is extremely limited, unlike Rick, which is what makes his character work. And this crucial limitation is Ford cares about family, and Rick doesn't care about anything at all. I really wish they did have a season 3, because I really wanted to see more of Ford interacting with the cast (he's my favorite lmao.)

I mean the show was always kinda sci-fi. The whole time travel thing, the gobblewonker, Gideon's giant robot, Stan being hinted several times as having a secret vending machine door, and stuff like that. The show was always sci-fi with aspects of fantasy. Season 2 just leaned more into the sci-fi.

I understand your opinion. I personally love the second season it gave gravity Falls a more thought out story with the first season being just about goofy shenanigans because that’s what kids do, with the second season being more serious, and when a show is serious like that, it means that they Love their own series
@furnaceandtable30413 ай бұрын
Too bad you didnt like it. Sounds like you don't enjoy absurdist sci fi in general, and I think some of your arguements were a reach. Also minor sci fi elements were always part of the show, like the secret elevator, the hidden compartments in trees, the portal, the grappeling gun (at least I dont think we have the technology for a tool of that level), things like that. And none of Ford's inventions break the stakes of the show, at least to my knowledge. His older stuff probably took time and trial and error, like he didn't just whip out that tie like Rick would. Like you said, it was older. And it seems like you are kind of over negative to the season as a whole just for a few episodes. Besides for some minor nitpicks, though, I thought you had a good video. I disagreed with a lot of it, but I guess thats just preferences.

Coming from someone who loves GF season 2, I’m honestly really glad to see people actually give their honest opinions instead of just following the hive mind! Also I kinda agree with some of the points here and the show did kinda lose momentum after Ford returned(Tho luckily they picked it up with Dipper and Mabel vs the Future and the amazing finale)
@Mossy-KatАй бұрын
See I *loved* Dungeons Dungeons and More Dungeons and I was very hyped for it when it came out. And I don't really like The Last Mabelcorn. Also I kinda wish we did get that three seasons situation because we could have explored some of the characters more and I would have loved to get more of Grunkle Ford. I do feel like large parts of season 2 were kinda weak, though.
@Tillyard862 ай бұрын
Your basic point seems to be that you don’t like the addition of Ford and his inventions and the heavier focus on sci-fi. I don't see an issue with that; it's common for shows to switch up the format in later seasons. I guess you wanted more explanation for how Ford could invent this stuff, but I don't see how it's any different than Dipper finding information in the journal, especially since Ford wrote it. If you are wondering how Ford could invent things, then you should wonder how he knew all the information he wrote in the journal. Did Rick being able to invent anything ruin the show for people? I don't remember anyone ever saying that. Roadside Attraction is total filler sure, but I'd say its still good filler if you ask me, the reason it never comes up again is because its all wrapped up by the end of that episode. Please do talk more about how bad you think it is, id would love to hear more than just “its filler”. Also odd how you say its bad and then laugh.
@tomerorlevi16733 ай бұрын
I wouldn't call it bad but to me it definitely was weaker at a whole and I think has to do with a couple of reasons: one, the overall and biggest was solved and wasn't really replaced with any other one, they could've put more emphasis on how billy boy is going to escape Two, the episode count or how they were handeled, being more episodic than when there aren't many episodes or time for that, not that they can't be but they were too episodic instead of episodic with a growing amount of stakes until the finally and three, roadside attraction. It just completely out of place for where it was when it could have been used so much better, really feels like a finished season one or 2a episode plopped in. Also in the president episode I think they had a good contrast with sci fi and the mystical with the pines using a strictly technological item and Gideon using mind control magic for the same goal .
@rhyperiorhunter73392 ай бұрын
I honestly cannot agree, I find that season 2 isn't at all inferior to seaeon one, sure it has lower lows (the love diety and roadside attraction being particular stinkers) but it also had most of the shows best episodes like northwest manor mystery, into the bunker, a tale of two stans, sock opera, the society of the blind eye, the wierdmageddon trilogy, and not what he seems (which is commonly considered the best episode of the whole show) With this in mind I can't say that seqson two is any worse than season one, yeah you could also argue the first season is more consistent in quality, but I'd happily putt up with season 2's duds to experiance the peaks

I agree somewhat with the extra sci-fi stuff but I feel like it's not as bad as it's been made out as. Dungeons, Dungeons and More Dungeons doesn't actually suffer that problem imo. It has some sci-fi stuff in it but none of that stuff is really used for the plot, and the infinity sided dice seemed much more in line with a cursed object or some kind of magic item rather than anything tech related. That being said, you are 100% right that the Roadside Attraction episode was terrible. The out of nowhere shipping, lack of bill despite being a perfect opportunity for him to appear, and the weird personality shift from Dipper to make him learn a lesson he didn't really need to.
@MrMMMatter3 ай бұрын

@PackRodent73 ай бұрын
I mean, I feel like you could be right, but I really disagree on the scifi stuff being a problem. I could at most agree with the Tie. Ford having scifi tech stuff doesn't come up too much since its more of a background ambience thing, not to mention he went to an alternate dimension. How on earth would he not have stuff like that and still be alive? And even then the show always had this kind of sci-fi element in the background, We had known for a while that the journals had the instructions for something technological/scifi so for me atleast it just felt like a natural progression. My main issue with season 2 is the lack of ford screen time and answers, but honestly the season didn't over stay its welcome, which is good because the show worked so well for me because of the mystery of the author

Or even the opposite direction! Since season 3 would have the author, we could see the numbers getting closer to 1 as the show getting closer to figuring out who the author is!

It feels like Gravity Falls was planed for only 2 seasons and there were only a few bumps in the road. Roadside attractions is considered the worst episode cause it did nothing to advance the plot. I think if that episode was replaced with more Ford and that dropped subplot where Grunkle Stan and Wendy hang out and steal things, then I think you’d be singing a different tone. Honestly that’s how I would see it.

Every single comment I’ve found of yours is just talking about how much you hate Mabel and gravity falls and it sounds a bit obsessive and worrying to be honest, you seem a bit too committed to be a troll. There’s a difference between like, simply hating a show and constantly commenting about how much you think Mabel should die every month on as many videos as you can. It’s kind of crazy I recognise your channel just by how much you comment about this alone, why aren’t you just avoiding this show for your own mental health?
