Fun fact: on commercial ships and in the navy, there is actually a position of co-captains, although they’re not called that, a second in command would have the title of executive officer and typically be held by an officer ranking Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander, and I’m not sure what a third in command would be called, but that position is typically held by another officer or an NCO ranking Chief Petty Officer or higher
