Gravity Monster Fat Bike - Brake Upgrade from Mechanical to Hydraulic

Come along for the ride as I upgrade the Tektro mechanical brakes that came with my Gravity Monster Fat Bike and test how well the new Shimano hydraulics perform over the cheaper brand. The benefit (and value) might not be where you expected to find it.

Excellent video! You put a lot of work into it and it shows. I just picked up a used Gravity Monster for $500 and love it. Came with a carbon fork on it too. I think i'm going to make this easy brake upgrade!

Personally I love my mechanical disc brakes.. Love the feel and knowing I'm in complete control not the oil...I never use two fingers from fast single track that flows to steep descents perhaps your were not adjusted properly??...I have no problem with hydraulic but I think a good set of Mechanical are as good or better...specifically when factoring in durability and ease of maintenance... to each his own but to be true... each (mechanical and hydraulic) have there own advantages and disadvantages....cheers!

I recently experimented with metal pads on this bike too (rather than resin). I still prefer the nuance of the resin pads under hydraulic pressure. But, as you suggest, its all super subjective. Thanks for the comment! More content coming soon.

@@darwinrides1688 Thanks for the reply...I'm curious after all the upgrades how much $$ will you have in this bike? the reason I ask is I'm looking at different fat bikes and trying to figure out the best course of action..value etc..

@@amw4736 Bike-$500, Hydraulic brakes-$80, Stem and Handlebar-$50, Pedals-$100. I put Lizard-Skin grips on the bar too, but these were purely cosmetic options.
