It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the
Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary
funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk
collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear
The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that
would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was
only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely
ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other.
Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit
represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their ʼ70s prime, in the era of their
Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs-a rare opportunity
for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk.

I'm 65 years old I saw this live concert in 1976 at the Cleveland Ohio coliseum I was 19 years old in my life I was blessed to see great entertainment like Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross Teddy Pendergrass even the Isley Brothers even Barry White, but Funkadelic Parliament live in 1976 is a performance I'll never forget " unbelievable ".

The sound is INSANE on this recording. Drum cymbals are crisp with a nice warm snare and the bass drum is solid hitting as a heart attack. The bass is nasty and funky, every thumb lick heard. Guitars are raw and electric, ringing out every decibel. Seriously sounds like this thing was recorded yesterday on top notch equipment. It has an amazing sound without being overprocessed.

Country, Folk, and Western definitely did not come from black folks. It came primarily from the Scottish and Irish; which is where most of black culture and ebonics comes from due to them largely setting in the South. Go listen to Flowers of Edinburgh. That's a Scottish folk song. Also, whites have the best BBQ in the south before you try to steal that too.

@@dinibell I disagree respectfully [we not talking politics], That it was well know back in the day that's what George said to the original composer, Eddie Hazel. Kid Funkadelic was not the original composer/recorder of Maggot brain, though he is most known for playing the solo . Kid Funkadelic did not start playing with the band until 1975, Maggot Brain was recorded in 1971. Every red-blooded funkateer knows that signature drum intro well and what it means. It means that the Mothership has already delivered you deep into space and has jettisoned you into the ecstatic haze and mania of COSMIC SLOP. So, when you hear those drums, hold on tight to your loved one or friend you went to the show with, because you have now been sucked into the chaotic swirl of the cosmos and -it’s OK, you’re perfectly safe! There’s no danger involved, but surely, you don’t want to go it alone. If you have this experience alone - you may not find any mere mortals to understand your experience. You have been abducted by the good spirits of deepest space and it helps to have someone to corroborate that experience. If you’ve already taken drugs, they will surely kick in at this moment. If you haven’t taken them yet, you may want to - just to get up to speed, but there’s nothing to worry about! If you don’t get this song, it really doesn’t matter. THE SONG WILL GET YOU!
