Agreed. Brown is an awful colour for walls and will go out of style in a week. Not a huge fan of beige either (talk about depressing). If I want brown in my space, I'll introduce wood accents and/or furniture. Gray is a perfectly acceptable colour as long as it's not all-gray-everything. But that's just common sense just like the all-white-everything that would inevitably go out of style. I just hope designers won't push the all-earth-tones trend because it will be redundant very soon.

It very much depends on the kind of light you get from your environment. Gray in Cuba or Mexico looks sad and sick. I live in Canada, the sun is very low most of the year, and a white wall always casts a bad grey tone. Painting the walls gray actually warms up the space and neutralizes the bad grey to a good grey that feels like a warm, cocooning white. It also helps to neutralize the green shadows from the trees in summer. I painted over my walls about 12 times with every shade of white before turning to a soft grey 10 years ago and it still feels cozy and neutral. 🙂

I couldn’t Agree more with you, we have painted our walls a very very light grey and depending on the time of day and which room you walk into, sometimes it looks like a white tone wall, environment has a lot to do with what colour tones look like in natural lighting compared to no lighting at all…I Love my grey walls and have no intentions of changing them, trends come and go and the tones she’s talking about, we had that in our first home about 44 years ago, so there you go….everything old is new again Lol 😂, just like clothes…😊🇦🇺

Sorry, I have gray in my home and I love it. I consider it a neutral. I have gray paint in a couple of rooms and the entry way. The shade is not super light nor dark, by any means. I love the way that it looks against white. It is not depressing to me. I would never paint my walls dark gray nor black, but if that floats your boat, go for it. I have warm wood tones in my floors and some of my furniture. I just went to my local Benjamin Moore store for paint for another room (not gray) and got to chatting with the designers and they all agreed that they still sell a lot of gray interior paint, so go figure. I do like brushed nickel, pewter or stainless steel in small doses. I am not a fan of brown or brass. With regards to art, I do not care for abstract art, but if it speaks to you, do it. I have mostly original art in my house and love to support local artists and galleries. There is always something for everyone. In the end, it is all personal preference and what makes you happy. It does not matter if it is "in style" or not.

The last time someone asked me what my favorite color was I said “white with.” Because I love the freshness of white with every color. Gray does the same thing for certain colors. And then again, so can Beige. My sister was styling with beige in the late 60s, When we added onto our tiny house and The old den became her bedroom. I had never even heard the word beige at that young age, and that’s what she wanted to paint her new bedroom space. What she did with some antique furniture, a beautiful bedspread with beige and blues and greens and browns in it, and painting one wall deep blue, it was so cozy and attractive. She’s not a particular fan of white, like I am, but she can certainly create a cozy aesthetic using beige. Looking back on our childhood mid-century home, I think I would love to go back and strip the original maple cabinets to their original natural color, and freshen the maple hardwood floors (always covered with carpet during my time there), I would love to go back and restore every bit of stained and painted maple to a natural unstained state, , and paint the walls a pale gray. And paint the (brown) exterior trim in a medium gray that complements the pale cream bricks & the gray mortar. The house was built so that the exterior brick is visible from the inside, without drywall. I think it would be so fresh and natural and I would love to create a minimal decor scheme. Well, it’s not my house anymore and the value of the neighborhood has gone up so much that it doesn’t even make sense to think about moving back.

The key is to use in moderation. I have grey cabinets, a grey sectional and grey upholstered bed. Everything else in the house is black, brown, white/beige. I have nickel tone accents throughout my house with a mix of black & white accents. The only room in my home with gold tone accents is my office. Rule of thumb: do what works for you & your family.

As a Realtor I have the advantage of seeing all the trends and how everyone interprets them. One thing that kept me from going the gray route was when I would have my listings photographed - if the home followed the gray trend then the photos looked like they were black and white photos and really made the home look awful. If you go gray or you did go gray and you want to keep it, then you have to decorate with color and I am talking color color. I always tell clients, when putting in new floors, and new cabinets try to stick with the classics which are wood tones, whites or black. No matter what trends are doing white, black and wood tones will always give your home an on trend look because you then can decorate with what is trending, if trending is your thing. Decor is the least expensive thing to change and so is wall color.

I often use the term "style terrorists"! They are like the global elites of the fashion and decor industry. They gear you up with the latest "trends" like with a drug, getting everyone to spend boatloads of cash on their products, then when the saturation point has been reached, it's time to pull the rug, often quite literally, out from under you! You'll hear, "I'm sooo over "it" or "such and such is so passe" but truly if people just keep a balance and go with colors they wear, colors that make them happy and resonate with them you will buck the trends and create your own place of comfort. Remember these "style terrorists" at the top are only trying to get you to spend your hard-earned money, over and over again! It's called marketing (duh) and is the oldest trick of the trade!

I love your channel and your attitude. But this video is strange and this is coming from a person who does not even have much gray in my own home to begin with. I am more of a color person. Calling a whole color group "depressing" and "out of style" is weird and confusing to general public. Grays are neutrals and those 50 shades of gray can be so different and versatile. Grey can go up from anthracit to raw concrete to light misty morning. Warmer or cooler, deeper or lighter. Neutrals can never "go out of style". It might be tricky to work with undertones, but this applies to any color group. Also i don't know if this is an american thing, but using chrome and nickel fixtures also will never be out of style - it's just metal, color combos and finishes is what matter. Colors are just colors. Natural colors, and greys are obviously natural colors, are part of the world we live in. Shades, undertones, combos matter

I just painted my house in a light grey, my fireplace is white and I have white moulding in my dining area, I absolutely love it. I saw a few designers using grey even studio McGee has some light grey sofas, I don’t think neutrals really go out of style. Besides with the massive arise of vintage items, lots of chrome is back. Gray isn’t trendy rught now and I don’t like it for wood floors but gray is a neutral and used properly and proportionately is beautiful. Gray and caramel is a gorgeous and classic combination in textiles as it is in clothing. I think it’s never good to say a neutral has been exiled from the palette.

Recommendation: Add in more green or blue to play down the grey so it’s not so dominant in the color scheme. White is also helpful to balance too much grey.

I don’t think so sorry I have to disagree. I’m an interior designer and my clients wants gray. Trends and fads are not good. This white wall white everything is horrible to me but if my clients want it I do it. In fact I just did 4 homes in gray people love it if u love cool colors not everyone is warm. I HATE when I say HATE brown I wouldn’t do my house in brown if someone did it for free. But if my client likes it again I make it work. So, I would take a look at your comments !! Maybe you just went about this video wrong!! I would never say to anyone this out out out I mean out !! I just painted my home in repose gray and it made me sooo happy !! Saying farmhouse is out is also ridiculous!! To some people it’s a lifestyle so are you saying someone’s life style is OUT OUT OUT!!! I’m sorry if I seem harsh but just think it’s wrong to go about it like this. Wealthy people have the budget to change their home to “trends” every year. We are talking 1%. To everyone out there that sees this. I’ve been an interior designer for over 20 yrs do what makes YOU happy. Don’t go with trends you see on social media. Most of those people get their materials free, or at almost no cost at all. Gray is a neutral ugh the more I hear this video I keep cringing!! DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!! Remember a designer is working for YOU!! Don’t let anyone talk you into something you don’t want or like!! Sorry for this rant 🩶🩶🩶🩶❤️

I say don't chase trends and go with what you love. In my 30+ years of home ownership I've had and witnessed them all come in and go out of style. I think grey is a beautiful classic colour that reminds me of France and I would not hesitate to enjoy it again at any point. I've recently downsized from a house to a condo and when choosing a colour palette I did not consider trends, but rather what colours I enjoyed living with the most throughout my many different homes. The condo I purchased was pure white throughout and although I initially had visions of a Parisian Haussmann look, soon realized I hated living in that stark space. It is now rapidly moving towards black walls throughout, with creams and golds. I've purchased a vintage French Aubusson and am going full on 90's in here. Planning on doing travertine floors as well which for the past 20 years would make designers shudder and cringe. My point is, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we all respond individually to colour. The latitude, and even culture of where you live or have lived will impact our sense of colour as well. Ultimately our homes are our personal haven and should be a space that we respond to and feel good in, be that grey, beige, primary tones or whatever brings happiness.

Whenever a trend is all warm color palette or all cool color palette, it will always eventually get tiresome. Long-term style will always be in balance with both warm and cool colors. It’s fun to have a couple of trendy items, however whenever you’re chasing trends, it will only lead to wasteful consumerism, eventually ending up in a landfill, and won’t make you happy, but most likely will drain your bank account. ❤

She would often, in winter, come in wearing medium or charcoal gray wool pants/trousers and a luxurious camel coat, either camel hair or cashmere with a high turtleneck cream cashmere sweater. She always looked so elegant and chic and still does tho' she is now in her 80's or maybe even 90's. That is still her signature look. Claire A., you know who you are. A warm tannish type of gray is always welcome and sometimes beachy if you like that sort of thing. A cold, cool gray reminds me of an outside garage or just plain cement. You really have to be careful with your cool colors, they need to have a little bit of warmth in them and you don't get that with some grays. A very light beige gray we used to call "oyster shell" back in the day. Soft neutral and just the right hint of gray. Light beige or cool sandy tones are nice. Use medium brown with white trim but no darker unless you're doing a dramatic look.

Grey wood floors are not it (wood isn’t naturally grey) but grey concrete floors/tile will ALWAYS be timeless and organic. I love a good desert oasis vibe! I do agree doing everything in grey is too much and has been overdone but when done in small amounts it can absolutely be beautiful and earthy! Think modern organic.. what is organic? Stone, mountains etc. A gorgeous airbrushed concrete floor is flawless and then adding warmer colors! Add warmth with paint, furniture and cozy rugs etc. I don’t agree that ALL grey is out. Too much beige can also be depressing. We won’t ever be able to keep up with the trends, so do what works for you and just add to what you already have. Please don’t feel bad about your space or home! Make it you. I guarantee that if designers didn’t say grey was out everyone would still love it! If they say black and white is out are we all going to run and change it all? Trust me..beige will be out in a few years and than back to white, black and grey we go! Generally, I strongly agree that the all-gray look is cold and outdated. Most of my home is warm browns, woods, and b/w. However, I’m not writing off gray. I did incorporate a fair amount of gray in this house with an otherwise warm palette. I just put in gray slab cabinets in my kitchen but paired it with medium brown bamboo slab cabinets (all frameless) with beautiful drop caramel “marble” porcelain countertops and backsplash. The gray looks amazing. Styles change and the pendulum will swing again towards cool colors. I hope I’m straddling the line enough that I’ve created something fairly classic. 🤞🤞🤞
