Thank you for explaining the sequence of operation for this Goodman furnace. I don’t have a manual but with your help, I was able to figure out that my gas valve was defective. I could not find the original Honeywell valve, but obtained a White-Rodgers replacement for below $68 including tax. Thank you for a very clear and concise explanation I fixed my furnace!!

Because of your outline of the process, I was able to troubleshoot my pressure switch issue. I discovered it was not lighting, so I inspected the switch and discovered there was debris in it. I made sure it was shut off, then held the pin in for two sec to reset it. Buttoned everything back up tuned on the breaker and it was running like a champ. Thank you sir!

I WENT to school for HVAC in 2004, and I'm RUSTY AS HELL, but with your videos and my BOOKS that I STILL OWN FROM SCHOOL, I have been re-training myself and do some work for neighbors in my hood. You are a very Knowledgeable cat!!! Keep showing these cats how to make this money and how to actually LEARN how to fix furnaces. The IFC board makes things easy with the blink codes, depending on the model!! THANK YOU!!!!!

So i may have not complete understood what you were saying but you said that when the combustion blower is on and pressure switch is closed the unit will no longer move forward that is incorrect the unit will operate correctly like i said could have been a misunderstanding
@grayfurnaceman6 жыл бұрын
You have misunderstood. The control board must see an open pressure switch switch before the inducer will start. This is done to insure a stuck closed pressure switch will stop the sequence for ignition. GFM

T-stat call for heat Inducer/venter motor starts Closes Pressure switch HSI is powered Gas valve opens (3.5") w.c Blower motor starts to cool heat exchanger T-stat becomes satisfied Gas valve closes Venter motor continues for 30 secs to a min Blower continues till heat exchanger is cooled
@grayfurnaceman10 жыл бұрын
Justin Denomme Just a couple of things missing. Control board checks to see if pressure switch is closed before starting inducer. Also control board checks to see if any limits are open and stops the sequence if any are open. Hope this helps. GFM

first off love the videos, very helpful! Have a 1975 bryant furnace that has pilot light lit , but burners will not fire. I'm thinking pressure switch, but should I look at inducer motor first? Tia
@grayfurnaceman9 жыл бұрын
+coil junkie If your furnace was made in 1975, it has neither a pressure switch or an inducer. If pilot stays lit but no fire, check incoming power first. Hope this helps. GFM

How common is it to have a limit on an inducer? I seen one yesterday and that's the first time seeing one. If they trip, is it like a high limit where the blower runs to try and close it. Will the inducer keep running to try and reset it? New to this field.
@grayfurnaceman8 жыл бұрын
+1242chisox They are fairly common. It shuts down the furnace and starts the fan on most furnaces. Hope this helps. GFM

With thermostat set on heat and fan set to on, the inducer motor doesn't come on. W=C and R-C terminal voltages are 0V..Where do I go from here?

check the 24 volts transformer, R- C should 24 volts

I'm taking HVAC course and we had the same exact furnace in the class room which we were working on. The inducer fan would run and turn off every 30 seconds. When we disconnected the wires going to the limit switch it would run but ignition would not come on. What you think the issue is there? thanx
@grayfurnaceman8 жыл бұрын
The pressure switch was probably not making. The board gives up if the switch does not make within seconds. GFM
@Babyfryhead6 жыл бұрын
There could be a couple things, first check that the exhaust pipe is clean all the way out, because if it has a birds-nest in there or other object it can change the flow of the air and make you think the pressure switch is bad but it is not. once you do that, if that still doesn't solve your problem, i would use a jumper wire and bypass the pressure switch just to see if that solves your problem, if it does, replace the pressure switch.

Once again - one year to the day my Weil- McLain ULTRA 155 has an internal leak in the heat exchanger. Those things are a piece of crap. Being efficient is not much good when the heat exchanger has to be replaced every year. Weil- McLain don't want to know about it. So if you are considering a new unit do yourself a favor and consider a different brand.

I would first look at venting blockages, if your furnace is the same model as the one in this video, check the fitting at the inducer that connects to the pressure switch. Sometimes it plugs. GFM

My furnace from the day it was installed (9 years ago) starts the House fan, then the inducer then the igniter then the gas.. How can I change the sequence so the squirrel cage does not start spinning til the Flames are on? Thing blows cold air until the flames come on...
@grayfurnaceman7 жыл бұрын
You may have the wrong thermostat or the thermostat is not set up properly. When W is energized, it should not energize the fan. The fan should be energized by the furnace when the heat exchanger is warm. GFM
@terpencar7 жыл бұрын
Ok, W has 4 wires connected to it two brown and two white.. Ill see if I can tell where those go on the thermostat.. Its a 1F81-261 white rodgers and I have a heat pump
@grayfurnaceman7 жыл бұрын
You have the wrong thermostat for your system. As you have a heat pump, the fan must be set to operate as soon as the heat comes on. You could use something like an IF82-261. You will have to cut the W-904 jumper. GFM
@terpencar7 жыл бұрын
ok, My apologies. I just got home and look at the thermostat and I indeed have the IF82-261.. However it looks like that jumper is not cut... so are you saying because it is a heat pump system the house fan must come on first or with the inducer motor? Sorry for all the questions and I sure appreciate the help.
@terpencar7 жыл бұрын
I`m just wanting to make sure here.. Because the jumper is not cut, that`s why the blower is coming on first when its on backup heat (Propane) but when its using the heat pump that`s by design? So if I cut jumper It will operate on heat pump the way it does now, but when using propane it will wait to turn fan on after Gas is lighted? Thanks

Take it from one who knows. Don't buy anything from goodman. I have a goodman gas pack that was installed in 2012. The capacitor on the inducer motor went out last year. I called the local goodman dealer in November of last year and several more times since then. They're some of the most ill mannered, insulting people I've ever met. I called goodman manufacturing and got about the same treatment. The inducer motor has to have a 2 microfarad 370 volt capacitor in order to work. I was going to replace it myself but you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a 2 µF 370 volt capacitor. Every supply place around here has a 3 µF but not a 2 µF and a 3 µF won't work. I finally wound up calling the local Trane dealer to fix the thing. But at the rate I was going if I had continued running all over the state trying to find the right capacitor I would have had more money tied up in gas than the repair costed.
