You gave a great explanation of the pilot assembly and how it is put together about 10 years ago, I would suggest people check out that video in conjunction with this video

Did you also disassembled the gas pilot parts and clean orifice? This can be done by removing the brass nut
@grayfurnaceman Жыл бұрын
There is generally no good reason to disassemble the pilot unless there is no gas flow to the pilot. The pilot orifice is very small and cannot be effectively cleaned, only replaced. GFM

Thank you for covering the antique gas furnace, the do last for ever if maintained
@grayfurnaceman3 жыл бұрын
The idea that they last forever is flawed. As with most mechanical devices, the vast majority last 20 to 30 years. Some fail early in perhaps 10 years and some last very long. Its just that you only come across the ones that last because they are the only ones left. GFM

That beast, even in its present age, will still outlast anything you can buy today. The only problem is they had no draft or rollout safeties.

I will be uploading a vid on repair of the valve. Not that I recommend that repair. The problem with these older parts is that during normal servicing, they often fail. Proper repair of this unit would be a combination gas valve. But also replacement of the furnace should be considered. Why not put the repair money towards a new furnace? Also, remember this furnace is not installed. It is a mule for videos. GFM

Great videos on this antique furnace! Thank you for posting! I have a 1954 Bryant floor furnace with pilot issue. It also has yellow flame. Wish you had gone into more detail about the pilot. After the burner stops, a flame travels up the side of the pilot and pops when it reaches the top. Like water dripping, upwards. Pop, pop, pop, every few seconds until the furnace cools sufficiently. What can be done? Is a replacement pilot assembly still available?
@grayfurnaceman2 жыл бұрын
You probably have a gas leak at the pilot assembly. Standing pilot assemblies are available, however, it may be a leak at the pilot tube fitting. I would get it looked at as you do not want a leak even if it is a small one. GFM

is it true older furnaces dont produce as much carbon monxide?
@grayfurnaceman8 жыл бұрын
No. The newer ones are far better at establishing a complete burn. GFM

Do happen to know where the fan limit switch is on a vintage Lennox gh5 series furnace is?
@grayfurnaceman6 жыл бұрын
It should be located above the burner cover in the center of the front panel. GFM

IT DEPENDS ON HOW HARD IT IS THAT ACCESS, MANY TIMES THE BURNER COVER HAS TO BE DUG OUT OF THE DIRT TO REMOVE, EVEN IF IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE DUG OUT IT WILL COST AT LEAST $300 HERE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND THAT IS AT THE LOW END.

Its interesting to see how these furnaces were made and you have to admit, they lasted a long time. Thanks for commenting. GFM
Uh oh so what are you going to do about that leaking shut off valve? delete the valve train and install a combination gas valve and extend out the manifold with black iron pipe where the regulator and gas solenoid is.
