I'm a DIY homeowner and 3 years ago I had to replace the original Robert Shaw HS780 ignition control board with a Honeywell S8910U3000 board on my 1986 Coleman 2895E766 furnace (115k BTU). It was literally the first time I've ever touched a gas furnace (not including replacing the filter) since it was my first house. I spend a lot of time researching the various safety devices and overall operation of gas furnaces and is the reason I discovered your channel 3 years ago. I was paranoid I'd explode the house so I must have spend 20 or 30 hours going over everything before and after the install, but I now feel comfortable troubleshooting my own furnace and less worried about having a 35 y/o furnace. I do keep CO detectors in pretty much every room in the house. Thanks for providing easy to follow lessons for highly motivated DIY folks not in the HVAC industry.

Your furnace video's have helped me a lot. I just got an old Reznor and needed to convert it to propane. Thank you

Hey gfm, is there any manual diagrams on they set up maybe on different flame 🔥 controllers ? I’d like to get some for the truck

it did to most everyone and the first thing they did was gut it for standing pilot valve and thermocouple pilot assembly. part of that was it being cheaper to change over and not have multiple service calls stacked up over some dumb reason, like a poor ground or rust quickly breaking the ground path for flame sensing and intermittent junktronics.
@grayfurnaceman3 жыл бұрын
@@throttlebottle5906 I never did that. I have had few problems with intermittent pilot systems after the first 2 years. GFM

Direct spark is my preference on a furnace ignition system. Ive never been a fan of hot surface ignition.

Thanks for your videos and for sharing these different spark igniters ,Do they come with a retro fit circuit diagram .It looks like they would be the one to be the go to igniter if the retrofit is not cost prohibitive in the way of install time and unit cost for the customer.

There is more to come on this control. Things like prepurge, spark timing etc are all adjustable. I will be going into all this in future videos. GFM

I have a mid-90s Carrier upflow furnace 58GSC065-GB130 where for 3 months I had to power on and off several times for it to run. 2 weeks ago, it would not turn on no matter what I did. I just replaced the controller board (ICM271C) and blower capacitor (5uf, 370V). Still, nothing happens. There is 28V going from LIM-1 on the board to the limit switch (HH12ZA251C), passing to the blocked vent safety switch (HH11AZ230A) and returning 28V to LIM-2 on the board. There is continuity and voltage between GAS-1, GAS-2, GAS-3 board connections to Gas valve (EF32CW183A) and Igniter/lockout control (LH33WZ512A). Voltage from GAS-1 is 28V but only measures 6V when plugged into the igniter control. Connections to the igniter is good. When I set the thermostat set to 70F and calling for heat, all I hear is a quiet hum from the transformer. If I pull the wires from either LIM-1 or LIM-2, the blower starts up, but still no pilot or flame. I don't know how to troubleshoot if the gas valve, igniter control, igniter or something else is bad. Please advise.

If this unit has the 3 wire pilot, the pilot switch may have failed. GFM

Domestic water heater 40 Gallon, No electric connection, no pilot burning. What generates the spark when calling for heat?

Some heaters intended for off grid use use batteries to operate the control system. GFM
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
those are primarily all full time standing pilot systems, using a thermopile in the pilot flame to generate power which is stored on the controller in a "super capacitor", that way it can blink the led for error codes for a long while before going fully dead. So as long as the pilot stays lit and the thermopile/control/safeties good, it will keep the control powered. at one point there was some rare models which had spark ignition and used batteries, but I think they were only very small portable units well under 20 gallons for camping

Wondering if anyone on here can help just acquired a trane hanging heater not sure how to wire it just has 2 wires 1 black 1 yellow going straight into the gas valve
