I personally believe that Graystripe, like Crowfeather and Leafpool, rushed into his relationship with Millie cuz he felt sad and alone, and therefore never actually built the kind of father-child connection he had with his old mate and kits. This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love them ofc.. but like Crowfeather the relationship never really satisfied him because of the distance he had created between him and his family.

I think Crowfeather and Nightcloud might be a better comparison for him not feeling satisfied with it. After all, that was where he lived a "normal" clan life with a child. His relationship with Leafpool was never able to get into a casual place since the entire time they were together they were either having it in secret or running away.

For some reason, i've always viewed Millie as Greystripe's true love. They spent an entire year traveling to the Clans and then waited three seasons to have kits. They also had eachother right there when they needed it. They are seen sharing tounges multiple times, defending eachother in battle, etc. Instead, with Silverstream, he only spent two seasons with her and then rushed to have kits. Also, the amount of harm they were doing while breaking the code was unhealthy.

I'm honestly fine with the fact that he was mates with Millie for Millie not for their kits because the opposite is Finleap -_- also, he wasn't indifferent to his kits, he simply didn't want to lose another mate. He wouldn't be like 'okay millie's safe? yea, you can kill the kits, or keep em, idc' Other than that, great points.

Yeah. I don't agree with the final statements, but Graystripe could have and should have been there for his other kits. Sure, nostalgia is one thing, but when you're basically just connected blood to your current children you should stop and think: "am I a bad dad?" He's barely existent during Briarlight's injury or Blossomfall's outbursts or Bumblestripe's rejections, yet he could easily talk with them, give them encouragement or console them. It's close, or is, neglect for there to be obvious problems for his kits but him not even noticing/trying to help. And if he did, he certainly didn't try fast or hard enough.

To be honest, I feel like Gray being with Millie for her and not kits is pretty sweet. It shows that he's not just with her for the kits, or raising a family, but rather for companionship. You have to remember he lost his first mate to save the kits, so that's why he was telling Jaypaw to save Millie if it came down to it. He could grieve over his kits, but losing another mate would be unbearable for him, especially if she was lost the same way.

No clue. I have two OTHER theories on how they can get in contact with StarClan, but option two is a bit lengthy. SPOILERS FOR VEIL OF SHADOWS AND GRAYSTRIPE'S VOW (Don't want to ruin for anyone) OPTION 1: In a Veil of Shadows, we found out that StarClan was somehow trapped in that den in the Dark Forest, right? What if we got the cats who used to travel into the Dark Forest (Breezepelt, Ivypool, Birchfall, Thornclaw, Tigerstar II, etc.) to go there, and try and destroy the den?? Would that maybe free StarClan? OPTION 2: It's been said many times how Feathertail can travel between StarClan and the Tribe of Endless Hunting. Maybe Feathertail can take messages from StarClan, go to the Tribe of Endless Hunting, and take a message to Stoneteller. Stoneteller could then send a cat down to the Lake (Stormfur or Brook most likely since they've been there) and deliver the messages. Of course, this is a loooonnng journey so Option 1 is probably best.

Tiana Richter Another theory I have is that ravenpaw might make an appearance again in TBC because in ravenpaw’s farewell (SPOILERS) When ravenpaw is in skyclan and is visited by bluestar, lionheart, and whitestorm because he is about to die, they offered him a spot in starclan. Ravenpaw declined, because he wanted to wait for barley first. Lionheart told him “But you are welcome to visit us in starclan whenever you wish. You will find a way, i promise.” and in the ultimate guide there’s a short story about bramblestar receiving his nine lives. In that short story bramblestar sees ravenpaw, which proves he was able to figure out how to visit starclan when he so chooses. Keeping that in mind, maybe rootspring or shadowsight will be able to communicate with him and ravenpaw will be able to tell them how to communicate with starclan

It seemed like he settled for Millie and never got over Silverstream and just throwing in the towel with their kits save for Briarlight whom (if I recall correctly) he and Millie doted over since she was a baby as she’s disabled which caused her siblings to attempt anything to get their parents attention. That’s a common thing in households where a physically/mentally disabled child is born if they have siblings. The siblings will feel like their parents don’t give them enough attention, so any attention is good attention. Greystripe falls under a category that happens more often then not: he doesn’t care as he’s ‘settled’ with Millie and didn’t bond with his kits as he probably should have. He’s the assent father that was still there but never made any effort.

A few things, and I'm not upset, and not because Graystripe's my favorite character. But so Stormfur is the only connection of Silverstream and Feathertail he has, so he misses him dearly, and he did, and still does love Briarlight,very much so, but sure it doesn't seem as much, but no one expresses as much love to someone that they live with every day. It doesn't mean they love them less, just don't express it as much. And at the point where hee asked Jaypaw that if it came down to it, to save Millie instead was because he didn't want to lose the love of his life, and have the traumatic experience again. The kits he wasn't as attached to at the moment, since he hadn't even seen them, or even know if they would live. Its a logical reaction. Back to Briarlight he didn't express as much feelings because he isn't as emotional. He's grown up from then. He kept his feelings to himself, I mean, just read what is said earlier in the book about his mom's death (cant remember her name, Willowpelt i think?). Plus, he still loves them, but Blossomfall and Bumblestripe are brats, and I think trying to help would be futile. Don't get me wrong, I agree with some points, but not most. I would definitely not go as far to say he's a bad father. Even if you think that, just remember what hes been through now. So much loss, but he still keeps his spirits up. If anyone wants to have a respectful debate on the topic in the comments, be my guest.

Like I get where you coming from but" Blossomfall and Bumblestripe are brats" yeah but isn't that something a father should teach is wrong, kids don't just become brats on there own? I don't remember him talking to them ever. I feel they would be way less brats if they weren't just raised by Millie. Maybe he's not a bad dad but he's like more an absent dad? I guess. I think the biggest part is in his book, even when we see into his mind, the parts and emotions he is keeping to himself, none of them seem to be about any of his newest kits. He lost Briarlight and even if he doesn't show emotions he should at least show half the emotion in his mind as he did for Feathertail but she's barely an after thought to him when he's reminiscing. Now here's the thing, this is probably just bad writing and the writers preferring the original characters above new ones.

@@Parasolhyena I see where you get that from, and It's partially bad writing, I'll admit some of its his fault, but mainly he was there for his children, but not as much as the mother, I mean, that's the story for almost every family in WC. He was just a lot more involved in Feathertail and Stormfur's lives because their mother wasn't there. So really I think its just bad luck that they turned out to be brats, despite Blossomfall getting better. Another example of my previous point of that it's not always the parents is Ashfur and Ferncloud. They were sibling, one turned out to be a psychopath while the other a loving mother to all kits in the nursery.

It really felt like Graystripe's Vow had something cut from it... It's amazing how smug the book was about having something big revealed. The entire time I was reading it felt like the book was taunting me: something is gonna happen, something is gonna happen... But it never did. What I think happened is; there was originally going to be a big reveal in the book, but the publishers decided to remove it becasue of people complaining about the Vision of Shadows super editions being required to fully understand the story.

The thing is, even though Graystripe has major biases towards Stormfur and Feathertail over his younger kits, he wasn't even a good dad to them either! Like after Stormfur and Feathertail were born, he joined RiverClan for the sole purpose of being with them, but Graystripe ended up abandoning them anyway because he frankly loved ThunderClan/Firestar/his old friends more than he loved his kits. Also, by joining RiverClan, betraying RiverClan, then going back to ThunderClan, Graystripe ended up making RiverClan/Leopardstar hate him even more than they did before, thus making life harder for his kits since they would be viewed as untrustworthy, like their father.

I think everyone is also forgetting about Graystripes past. Male cats back then were rather detached from their kits. We don't even know about his parents. And when Silverstream died, he thought his kits died too. He was forced to give up his clan for them and live amongst enemies. He was more devoted to them because he was all they had. He was a lot older he had his other three kits. He had less struggles trying to keep them alive. Maybe he also didn't want to form more attachments in case he lost them. He lost everyone else he loved, after all. They had Milly. There could be many reasons why he couldn't or wouldn't bond with his second litter.

I know this probably wasn’t intended because at the day these books are kind of badly written, but I always liked to think that Graystripe was distant from his kits with Millie because he was afraid to have that relationship again, considering what happened to his first family. His mate died, his daughter died, he’ll barely ever see his son again. By not getting close to his remaining children he’s sort of protecting himself from potentially experiencing the same overwhelming loss. Still a bad dad, but I thought it was an interesting dynamic that I wish was explored more.

I can't begin to tell you how overwhelmingly disappointing Greystripe's Vow ended up being. I was really hoping as a super edition of this premise, we might get another Bluestar's Prophecy where we would get the opportunity to actually see Greystripe as a kit and all the nostalgia and flashbacks would culminate with the "release" of Starclan back to the moon pool and Greystripe's death. I wanted the gap between his kithood and meeting Fireheart to showcase all the things we didn't get to see. Why was his mother's death in Firestar's Quest met with such indifference? Where was his father? There were so many questions that could have been answered all accumulating into a final farewell as he goes to join everyone he has lost. He's the last and keeping him going while watching him mourne the loss of literally everyone every time he woke up cold and alone in the elder's den. Instead, We get a total jumping the shark story that results in absolutely nothing. He came back to the forest no better off after over 30 chapters of nothing. Unrelated note: I haven't had the opportunity to say this, but am I the only one who kinda feels like Warriorclan is a bit of a good natured ribbing (or perhaps lowkey mocking), of Warriors fans? The constant debates over rules, names, traditions...kinda felt like Greystripe was an original writer amongst the petty squabbles on the warriors wiki forum.

I hate how the book series showed that a fling of teens could be as important as a deep relantionship with a person who you have spent your entire life life and who you have children with. Firestar was really yound when he fell in love with Spottedleaf (do you, folks, treat seriously your love stories from childhood now?) but he was considering choosing her in Starclan instead of Sandstorm (yes, Erin Hunter killed Spottedleaf forever just because they thought it could be hard for Firestar to choose between these two she-cats). Crowfeather - when he was an apprentice - spent few weeks with Feathertail but he seems to be ready to consider her as his girlfriend in Starclan (when he has to choose between her and two she-cats who he had close relantionships with and who gave him kits). Graystripe is an another example of this craze. He was a young adult when he fell in love with Silverstream but he seems to love her much more than Millie and he doesn't know if he should choose her in Starclan.

Yes! Exactly. It had always bothered me how difficult they make the situation. When a cat's significant other dies, and they move on to another, why should it be a choice? Obviously you'd want to stay with the cat that has ALWAYS been by your side, providing you love, support, and a family. Firestar shouldn't even have to QUESTION who to choose because Sandstorm is his MATE and true love. Same goes for Graystripe, he had spend majority of his life with Millie, and loved her genuinely. Then all of a sudden he is thinking about who to CHOOSE? bruh, Warriors needs to do better when it comes to second love.

I feel like maybe the reason Graystripe never built a relationship with his kits is the same reason with Crookedstar and Rainflower, after Briarlight lost use of her back legs Graystripe was worried he would lose Briarlight and then Blossomfall and Bumblestripe because he worried they would get hurt to so that's why he never got close to any of his kits.

Idk what to say really. Greystripe is an old cat with a long life, and like everyone, had some flaws. I honestly think the only reason he didn’t have that much of a connection with his kits was because he truly loved Silverstream more and they weren’t her kits, if that makes sense? I haven’t read the books for years, so I basically forgot everything about Grey’s relationship with his offspring.

Since we're on the subject of Graystripe's Vow... I have a theory on how they could get back in touch with StarClan. Two theories, actually. SPOILERS FOR VEIL OF SHADOWS AND GRAYSTRIPE'S VOW (Don't want to ruin for anyone) OPTION 1: In a Veil of Shadows, we found out that StarClan was somehow trapped in that den in the Dark Forest, right? What if we got the cats who used to travel into the Dark Forest (Breezepelt, Ivypool, Birchfall, Thornclaw, Tigerstar II, etc.) to go there, and try and destroy the den?? Would that maybe free StarClan? OPTION 2: It's been said many times how Feathertail can travel between StarClan and the Tribe of Endless Hunting. Maybe Feathertail can take messages from StarClan, go to the Tribe of Endless Hunting, and take a message to Stoneteller. Stoneteller could then send a cat down to the Lake (Stormfur or Brook most likely since they've been there) and deliver the messages. Of course, this is a loooonnng journey so Option 1 is probably best. Comment down below on what you think. I'd be happy to see what people think of my theory.

And i suppose back when he was raising Storm and Feather, he was the only parental figure they had (by blood), and he felt a responsibility to them, so he went off to raise them, making a deeper bond. But with Mille the kits have two alive parents, maybe GrayStripe thinks that Storm and Feather turned out fine with one parent, who’s to say the other kits won’t? (I havent read GrayStripes Vowl)
