Finally got it done, haha. This performance was highly recommended to me as I'm a rock kind of guy and people wanted to know how I'd react to a pop singer taking on a very demanding rock song that was originally performed by one of rock's most legendary vocalists. Given Dimash's obvious capabilities I'm sure I won't be disappointed, but I guess we'll have to find out together.

People say its weak because they're focusing on his accent, not realizing the guy just tried to sing in a different language in just a week. Vocally I feel this awsome , he likes to rearrange songs , so I'm sure everything you heard was hy choice and not him running away from anything. Remember he sings at a female range , Freddy Mercury songs for him are easy. DAYBREAK in Bastau concert next please . Great vocals here .

Dimash gave himself 3/10 on this performance. Very harsh judgement on his part, but he always sets the plank high :)
@Grays_Plays

@Eman namE, oh yeah Dimash isn't short on the range for this song. Those mid range notes can be tricky regardless of how high a singer can go though, and I think that's partly why he didn't do the full melody on the chorus, as with singing in a different language it would of forced him to use vowels that he wasn't used to using and if there was anything that Dimash (or any singer,) was likely to struggle with then it would be having to balance those mid range notes when using vowels that are different than what he's trained up on. I don't think he'd struggle at all with a simple melody like the one in the chorus under normal circumstances though. I agree that most of what we hear here was definitely artistic choice, as he has a lot of range and needs to rework the songs he does to show that off.
@Grays_Plays
@Grays_Plays 5 жыл бұрын
@Enceos, 3/10 is very harsh, lol. Artists with a high level of skill are always their own worst critics though and I don't think anyone else would rate this performance so low. By any reasonable objective standard it's still right up there I think.

@@Grays_Plays Based on prior knowledge of him, and trying to be objective, I have 3 analyses. First analysis, which covers his pronunciation, which includes his time to learn the language, is sitting at around 7.5. The second analysis, which covers his technical abilities, should be no surprise, sits at around the 9.8-10 mark. The third analysis that covers the most IMPORTANT aspect of singing, involves how he can make people react to his performance. This mark, based on youtube, twitter, instagram, and facebook posts, rank him 10/10.

Don Killuminati Lets not go off the tangent with the hyperbole, even though its Dimash. Of course there are limits to his abilities. Search "Vladimir Pasjukov -- Do not reject me in my old age" for one example he will never be able to do. These basso profundi, or oktavists, can sing a whole octave below the bass range. And they do it over a choir, without amplification. Then there's metal that he probably cant do. Black and death metal with their growling, screaming and shrieking. Listen to "Dissection - Where Dead Angels Lie" for an example. He would probably kill it in power and heavy metal if he practiced, no doubt about that.

I guess what people meant by weaker performance was weak pronunciation of English.. Not his vocals being weak... Personally, I think he was absolutely amazing... Commanding attention rather than seeking attention... ❤️
@Grays_Plays
@Grays_Plays 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I assumed that when watching it as well, cause his vocals were very impressive. I guess compared to other performances maybe it's a weaker one, I can believe that, but overall there's nothing weak about it that I can see. And yeah he definitely commands attention rather than seeks it. He's very skilled and is well aware of it so he doesn't need to be overly showy with every line like some singers try to be.

I LOVE Queen's version, however I think Dimash makes it brilliant. He makes it his own, without going too far from the original. I can admit that I hesitated a lot of what to think about it the first times I listened to Dimash doing this classic song. It's difficult to accept what someone else makes of it when recording (or just sing it on a TV show like here) what you have loved so much for so long. So I was stuck in that feeling for a while. Then I "let" myself to listen to Dimash singing it, and just shut out Queen from my head. And I'm just stunned. In awe. Dimash hasn't as much of the very emotional doomsday feeling, but that can have it's reasons, considering what Eddie went through at the time. He didn't write it, Brian May did. It was recorded six weeks before Eddie's tragic passing. Anyway, he literally sang about himself. "The show must go on The show must go on Inside my heart is breaking The makeup maybe flaking But my smile still stays on"

His English is now a lot better but in this song it's still very good because of the short time. In episode 8 he sings Daybreak and there he is sick. But i think he still did a amazing job. You did mention Sinful Passion, here it is in 1080p, Good sound quality, English subs in the settings and no foul almost at the end: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oX3bdJ1_fc2JY8k

@Britta G. Pedersen, cheers for the suggestions and the kind words. Most of those are already on my list and I'll get round to them as quickly as I can. I thought his English was perfectly fine given how long he'd had to learn it. It hardly detracted from the performance at all.

Only a handful of people sound as good at using their whistle voice as he does in my opinion. Very unique on that front, and the rest of his voice is brilliant too which is nice to hear as a lot of singers with a great range sound rather bland when you aren't just paying attention to that.

Hi Gray. Thank you so much for the reaction. Your comments and reactions are totally authentic, real and truly unbiased! You know, some rock singers may react somehow subjectively in many different ways to a pop/opera singer performing rock songs especially when it comes to the song which is so popular and is a masterpiece just like this one! But, your judgment on this case is by the facts besides your knowledge of music, and this is something that matters a lot to all music freaks! BTW, Dimash English pronunciation has improved from the time of this performance cause he's performed other English songs like 'Adagio', 'Hello', 'All by myself' and so on afterward. :) Looking forward to seeing more reacts to Dimash by you. Good luck, Gray. Well Done!

Hi there, thank you for the kind comment. I try to stay unbiased when listening to styles I'm not familiar with. I'm a big rock fan but I like to listen to different styles as each approach to music has different pros and cons and I'm keen on learning as much as I can about music in general, and to do that I can't stay in the one style all the time. Even with that said I don't need to be a big fan of a style to appreciate skill, and Dimash is obviously a unique and incredibly skilled singer. Makes me want to find more time to practice myself, haha. Cheers for the suggestions, I'll definitely be doing more reaction videos before too long. Thanks again.

Love the reaction, excellent points. It is great to see a rock singer weigh in on the technique needed and used in songs like this. Freddy has always been my favorite for years, this song in particular. Dimash does have a pop song out in English (screaming). His diction has greatly improved and actually you see the improvements in the show itself. He said in an interview for Late Autumn ( which is in chinese- also 1 week to learn - it is one of his best performances ). That he worried about his accent on the song and if it would basically distract the listener. Very in-tune to his strengths and hurdles and always growing, love to see that in any singer/ musician.

Cheers Tim, glad you liked it. I can't sing as well as I'd like to, largely due to lack of practice time with how much I'm trying to squeeze in with youtube. Hopefully one day when the channel is big enough and I can get my own place sorted I'll have more time for singing, as well as everything else. I honestly couldn't pick if someone asked me to say whether I liked music or gaming more. Thankfully youtube lets me do both.

I heard the 2 legendary singers. Eddie Mercury was really good but I like Dimash version of the song, not only that this is his first time singing in English, but the way he presented the song is like telling story. His facial expression and body language gave justice to the song. For me, this is a very strong performance with his own style. Thanks for very nice and great reactions.

I think the criticism of this song is because Dimash made it his own. People are so in love with Freddy Mercury that they are judgmental about anyone who changes any of his songs. I do like the original song better, but Dimash's performance was still amazing.
@Grays_Plays
@Grays_Plays 5 жыл бұрын
Probably an element of that going on. People idol worship the hell out of Freddie Mercury and though some of that is very justified, it colours people's opinions on what others do with his and Queen's material, sometimes a little unfairly.

Dear Gray, please PIN my comment?

Just an FYI, this was one of his first performances in English (he also sang in Chinese for his contest, which he did not know before). Although of course, he already sang in Russian, French, Italian and German. But look forward a year later to his "Hello" by Lionel Richie and you'll see how much his English has improved. He's a freakin' vocal beast in so many ways.

Weaker must be referring to his English which he is just learning. Nothing weak about his performances. I appreciate how you understand anything Dimash does is deliberate. He was born pitch perfect and at 5 years old was complaining that his piano was out of tune. Jackie DKIFC/USA

I agree, there was very little objectively weak about this performance. I heard one vowel in the whole song that was a little too broad depending on your school of approach and perspective towards vocalk technique, but even so the note was solid and I think there was very little to complain about. Nitpicking with this performance is like looking for a needle in a haystack and one would have to be one of those armchair singing experts you only find on the internet to have much to complain about here.

Wow! What a great reaction. It's really good to hear from a rock singer that Dimash did a good job singing a rock song. I dare to say that this is the best cover version that I've heard so far. Dimash is an extraordinary singer. When people say that this is his weakest performance, it's because they're more concerned about his pronunciation than his interpretation. Thanks for reacting to this song and sharing your musical knowledge with us. Cheers, bro!
