Holy crap, not only is this an amazing accomplishment, but it is incredibly generous of you to share the plans. I'll build this right away!
@jstro-hobbytech2 жыл бұрын
Considering you plan and built this in less than a few weeks is amazing sir. That's a project that would take most people months and not be as refined. I think the vinyl not being flat was the major issue.
@VigilantnotMilitant2 жыл бұрын
For your next few episodes, can you design a big industrial sized vinyl and cardboard cutter with a powerful omnidirectional drag knife? Big CNC cutters are so useful. We need to open-source their design.
@santopino25462 жыл бұрын
Greate job as usual. I bought a ready made Circuit for my GRBL CNC, I had to carve out LCD cuts in 20 plastic encolsures, it took me at least 3 days before I was able to finish one without the circuit crashing and the PC loosing comunication with the circuit. I found that the disturbance cause by the spindle motor under stress was the problem, I had to rund the Spindle on a seperate power source.

Amazing. What you build is truly awesome. It's very inspiring and I feel like with patience I can do it to. Since you've built a small cnc I suspect there's no reason a much bigger more powerful type cnc can be built. One that could cut wood and plastics

You need bigger motor drivers to move big wood routers/mass.
@daffygrey2 жыл бұрын
Someone wrote below about a passive roller. That is heading in the right direction. It actually needs to be a second powered Y roller the other side of the cutter, with the vinyl pinched to it by a sprung loaded roller from above. This is exactly the same as paper XY pen plotters from years gone by. With this arrangement, the tension can be kept on the vinyl instead of allowing it to ruck up against the cutter.
@Ratkill2 жыл бұрын
Amazing! On commercial vinyl plotters there is an additional small OD passive rubberized feed roller with a textured roller underneath the vinyl, very close to the head itself to hold the vinyl surface down tightly during cuts. Small issue though, the real work was in the electronics, nice project!

Great job putting this together. Effective mechanical performance is difficult to achieve. I witnessed a plotter for cutting that used a knife like an exacto knife that rotated in the cutting direction and reciprocated up and down for the cutting action. Build this one !!

Cool project I'm about to start assembling the boards, do you have a clear set of instructions of where each smd component goes on the board and what is the part number for the Mosfet that you use I ordered 5 boards so I might as well make one for the vinyl plotter and one for the CNC at the same time.
@Jirayu.Kaewprateep Жыл бұрын
That is great, mechanics with bands and different rotor sizes but it is accurate and adaptive. I heard about dot matrix printers they had the same problem when starting and ending to prevent ink pointing they manually move the pinpointer to one side rims, I think the CNC is trying to draw when it tries to update the location in the same time but that is a very good project. ( Printer bugs )

Nice project, I think you'll be having some issues with the cutter digging in because of the offset to the pivot point. I.e. Skids as it feeds backward and digs in as it feeds forward. Better to use the servo directly to lift the cutter and spring loaded to engage the cutter vertically, then your pressure would be more consistant. Always compromises to be made when designing cheap/light weight projects though. Great video!
@PMoney365 Жыл бұрын
Excellent! Definitely going to make that.

@SharkyMoto2 жыл бұрын
maybe worth mentioning, the difference between a4899 and tmc2208 steppers is far more than just noise, the tmc will also give you a much cleaner motion with far less jittering... and they arent even THAT expensive anymore :)
@levlev41862 жыл бұрын
Why not use a 3rd stepper for Z axis? And add a spring loaded cutter.
@Tom-yc8jv2 жыл бұрын
You could have just put the servo on the cutter head and ran the wire to it, instead of using the long rod. This will save money and weight.

Very cool project, hoping to see the improved version. I'm planning to do something similar but instead will use an old printer as base structure where the roller system is already existent and reliable and then replace the printers DC motors for steppers and the ink jet carrier to a custom 3d printed holder. But your build it from scratch is a great learning experience too

Ooo. man you are Pro. great work super
@Timbochchnz Жыл бұрын
A simplier way for calculating the steps without dimensions is to use the calculation... Say you want 100mm movement then you tell the gcode sender to move 100mm Then use... 100mm/moved distance x current steps/mm = new steps/mm. This is the calculation for 3D Printers and should work pretty much exactly the same for the vinyl cutter for calculating steps. Much simpler than using circumfrances and pully tooth counts which adds unnecessary math.

Awesome project as always! I've been fan of your work for a year now and used many of your ideas in my projects, e.g. I used your AC PID and rotary encoder tutorials to build my automatic three vessel brewing system. Here is an idea for next video; A CNC automatic transformer winding machine like this project but this time using a lead screw to align the wire with turning bobin based on the wire size maybe?!

Hello, thanks for sharing. I wonder if the servo motor can be replaced by an electromagnet. I have searched on the internet and everyone uses servo motors, but in my country it is very difficult to find them, it is much simpler to find or even build an electromagnet. It would be great if you could help me. Thank you.

Hi. I did just that. I used the Coolant pin as I dont use that. When selected by the appropriate Gcode I think its M7 and M8 maybe M9 (I used a multito check the pins) the Coolant pin goes high eg +5 volts. I connected this to an Arduino compatible 5 volt coil relay. The contacts on the relay when turned on connect 12 volts to my Solenoid.
