Hey everyone! Missed a quick step. To get access to the dropdown "Download and Import Texture Brush Pack", there's a second free add-on you'll need to install. Similar to installing Sapling Tree Gen, you'll go to Edit > Preferences > Add-Ons and search "Object: Grease Pencil Tools". Once you check it, you'll have the option to install the brushes from the Brush Specials dropdown.

I followed the steps but when downloading the brushes it is giving me a connection error with the website, an internet error. what could be happening? I'm using version 4.0

Texture brushes are super powerful! Best this is you can also animate the whole thing so easily. Traditional 2D art feels so boring after you master this workflow 😅 Great tutorial man! 🤩

What I suggest is using the tint modifier on the petalls to get a harmonized color pallet. It worked really well for me.

What a super tutorial ! Though I’m having trouble rendering the tree. On my view port display, as in your video, the branches can be seen through the branches. It has a weird artefact look that I like and gives depth to the leaves. Unfortunately my rendered image doesn’t look the same: all the brush strokes are overlapping each other without any transparency and I can no longer see the branches. How can I have a similar render to yours and fix this issue ? It’s worth mentioning that my grease pencil is parented by vertex to the tree mesh which is being displaced (wind effect). The material of the tree is an emission shader (though it doesn’t work either with a diffuse bsdf). Also the leaves are on separate layers with different brushes.
@XamTeloc Жыл бұрын
Turns out I just didn’t read the little error on my render window You need to tick both combined and Z passes in your view layers settings Grease pencil needs the Z pass to render depth which makes sense now that I think about it

The fact that you put keylogs to the left helps a lot! There are some shortcuts that you used in the vid without noticing and we can see it from the logs at the left of the screen.

If render pictuce is not match camera view, that can go to Scene>viewlayer(picture logo under printer logo), passes, data, check "Z". it can fix the problem.

This is the exact tutorial i was looking for. Thank you for the video I would like your thoughts on adding outlines to trunk. What would be your preferred technique for achieving outlines. freestyle vs line art modifier vs solidfy. Once again thank you for the tutorial. Love from India
@kevandram3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching! For outlines, I prefer to use solidify, primarily because I can see them on the mesh while working. However, I do know they updated freestyle recently, so it might be worth checking out :).

When I try changing the tree in the beginning from mesh to grease pencil, the option goes away? It lets me change it from normal to mesh or from normal to grease pencil, but I don't get the same result when I change it from mesh to grease pencil. There's no fill layer popping up or anything. Not sure if it's just changed since august 2021 or something but I can't find how to fix it online.
@kevandram2 жыл бұрын
Hmm that is strange. This might have changed since, but I would probably just leave it at a mesh instead as the technique works better with that now. Hope that helps.

I generally use Eevee when rendering with grease pencil, but it should work for Cycles as well.

Hey ed, if you still can't find it, it should be under Converter in the Add menu. Also, this node is specific to the Eevee render engine.
