I recently played a Greasus campaign and I have one protip for everyone struggling against Ghorst in mid-game, which is to never let him reach mid-game in the first place. Don't go where game directs you from the start. It is far better choice to secure first province and then go south and eliminate Ghorst early, before he will start spaming unkillable zombies, monsters, blood knights and mortis engines. I especially recommend this because if you recruit army of mostly ogre bulls, you should be able to autoresolve all battles with Ghorst faction without any problem. Then things become way easier and you can have actually pretty good campaign without vampire bullshit

I really like Ogres' units and heroes but both of their LLs are not interesting and their mechanics are lacking. I wish contracts were more engaging and impactful.. and camps can be packed up and deployed in different location for a cost, so you can use them offensively and utilize their buff aura. Just like Nurgle, they have the potential to be one of the most popular races in the game with only few tweaks.

What i loved about camps is how you can recruit units for them without a lord. Often i would recruit bunch of ogres while im out sacking and fighting, and then go back to camp, swap my damaged units for camps healthy units and go straight back to fighting while those guys heal at camp.

A Good note for the Cathay roster is that Ogres do integrate fairly well into Cathayan society and are often used as auxiliaries, as historically it was seen to be preferable to recruit them than simply deterring their raids, so I would like to see some Cathayan Ogres (and deffo Cathayan Maneater variant for OK's as they'd regularly do contracts for them)

thats why he needs to have two upgraded mounts when he levels up, the first one would be two sabretusks which gives him more speed, and second would be mournfangs, which would be faster but slower than sabretusk chariot and more tanky. would be better than him being slower than infantry and could make him more like grom

They might have intentionally nerfed it, because in the past there was a leadership reducing hero trait for the beastmen that affected the whole area the character was in, so you could stack these characters up, attack a target, break wind or make a rude gesture and the entire enemy army would make for the hills.

If you want to reduce enemy leadership play the wood elves. They have a high chance of getting a follower after winning a battle which reduces leadership. You can put it on lords and heroes.

I did a campaign as greasus, I didn’t have high expectations but it was one of the most enjoyable campaigns I have had in warhammer 3, it’s challenging enough while not being mind numbing and ogre units are really fun to play with

I use a reskin mod called "Calm's Greasus Reskin". He gets off his cart and gains a total of 53 speed. Myself I have very low amount of hours with ogres, but the mod looks very interesting.

started a co-op campaign with a friend recently, he was playing Zooming and I figured I'd give Greasus a go. Got the starting province, laid down a camp, and as I was headed northwards as I was in war with the ogres there I see full stack of dwarfs, also in war with me coming at me along with a stack from the ogre guys. All the while my army has to be fully replenished from earlier battles. We haven't continued yet but I see some rough shit coming my way in near future; don't know if the co-op messed up the factions at war in the beginning.

No, you start at war with Ogres and Dwarfs, the latter who own a major settlement to your north...And Dwarf infantry is some of the strongest in the early game.

Man I feel like Ogre Kingdoms need a mild rework to be really fun. Contracts, meat, big names, mercenaries, and camps are really good ideas that just need a bit of a tune up. I think it would be awesome if camps offered a wider range of units to hire as mercenaries, and you get some fraction of the money spent hiring them. I also feel like big names should be similar in strength to names of power from the Dark Elves, instead of giving a basic character trait tier boost. I also wish you could do something similar to Greasus' lore with trade caravans, and ensure their safe passage through their lands for a cut of the profit.

The caravan thing is "covered" by his bonus to trade tarrifs, and the special building in Great Hall of Greasus which increases it even more. The main issue, in my opinion, is that attacking caravans is way way more profitable than trading. And Cathay often doesn't want to trade with you.

@@C00kiesAplenty The caravans aren't trading so tariff increases have nothing to do with the caravans. Tariffs are collected from trade routes Greasus has with other people. Caravans are just NPC armies carrying gold travelling through his territory and never to him. In the lore, Greasus collected essentially protection money to allow Cathay to trade safely through his lands but in the game nothing like this is possible. They could add an ability that gives a percentage of a caravan's gold to Greasus whenever one enters his territory or an ability to demand gold from the caravan at the cost of not being able to attack that caravan anymore.

Grimgor is way too big an issue in this campaign not too mention him. By turn 30 on Legendary, he will have an insane amount of stacks all with WAAGGH armies. He will cut through your ogre allies like butter and declare war pretty early. Make sure to get either lightning strike or have a leveled firebelly or you will get overwhelmed.

Monstrous units have had serious issues since TWW1 - Trolls just stop fighting and making contact with the enemy units all the time And this applies to every similar unit - treekin, kroxigors, ogres, etc.

@@Merknilash Yea but it got way, WAY worse in TWW3. I've played a lot of greenskins and others so seen it plenty. Ogres your entire army are monstrous infantry, so it's more apparent. Sometimes you will lose fights or even battles if your pathing decides to be terrible. Not often but it makes a difference for sure.

Greasus requires mods to be fun. Take your pick from any of the ones that take Greasus off his Wal-Mart scooter (playability >>>> lore all day, every day) and give him Ogre Tyrant animations. He becomes an anti-large terror on the field, can actually hit the enemy and lead charges. CA really dropped the ball so hard with him, Skrag, the terrible contracts and the camp mechanics I don't know what the fuck they were thinking.

The Devs said one day that he starts in Krakaten, so the player only needs to travel (mostly) north, to capture the whole starting province, and then carry on north. They just never thought to make the great hall a new capital... we know it's possible, many Mods do it in all 3 Warhammers. So that excuse comes across (to me) as slightly lazy. The other (smaller) issue I have with that, it means the Devs intend for the player only to head north with Greasus. Not a strictly bad thing, just that it means they have a particular way they want you to play the game, and it's got in the way of keeping the lore nuts happy... Having said that.... "Capitals" are basically just a glorified name at this point... They don't do anything for you anymore bar remind you where you started...

Regarding contracts, the Camp Growth reward is extremely powerful, within like 10 turns you have enough surplus for the entire level 5 camp build up. This gets you super far ahead and you get great gold increase quickly after those 10 turns. But yeah, the target themselves are just terrible most of the time.

My idea for contracts would be that you're like given a mission you have to recruit an army and like fight a battle with after "x" amount of turns. Kind of like the legendary monster hunts in Total War TROY mythical mode. You can spend more to get a stronger army for the battle, but obviously you can save money if you recruit fewer units.

Ways to fix greasus for me. Change the gnoblars pushing him for ogres so it justifies a speed buff (might mean he gets bigger), give him great hall of greasus and give him the tribe confederation as he is the overtyrant so he beats the ogres into submission

Skrag is better for movement range and an uncommon ability to hit something in melee. They have no unique mechanics so any new LL will probably blow them out of the water

I have been trying to play Ogre kingdoms several times but they just does not seem to click with me. The meat mechanic seems like hassle, it just detracts and make everything less fun. The rooster feels “okay” but I where they fall flat for me most is probably the camp mechanic. Hearing you say it’s good I guess it might be more of a me issue but I never liked them at all. Again they seems more of a hassle to use than actually fun…

@@VikingsNeverDie The heroes Hunters and Tyrants Lords can get a Big Name called Boommaker boosting the missile strength of Leadbelchers and IronBlasters. With competent management, they can compete with Skaven for the best weapon team's doom-stack. I run the lord and 5 hunters (all with that Big Name), one mage with healing capabilities, 3 IronBlasters, and the rest of Leadbelchers, you can auto-resolve your way in Legendary, and the best thing, at turn 30 you can have those doom-stacks with enough patience.

Ogres are so fun. My main issue is camps suck at defense. Cant embed heroes, cant level up the tyrant in the camp, start battle with 0 supplies, camp too small for your unit size, poor layout for and range units and flanking tactics.

Dont know if its different on legendary difficulty since i just play normal,. but ogre factions has never been a threat in any of my campaigns, the gnoblars are weak canon fodder that quickly flees and while the orgres themselves are heavy damage dealers, they are so few in each group and so large that whatever race i play as who has missile units of any kind will just rain arrows and bullets down upon them plus my own infantry can get in good with the ogres and surround them denying them retreat, even if i play as vampire counts which is one of my favorites, the undead perk/effect on enenmy units and the no routing due to being undead still allows me to surround the ogres and then i just blast them with stats lowering magic making them big pieces of wet tissue paper.

That mostly sounds like the AI Ogres don't use the tools they have effectively. Sabretusks are cheap and really good at getting rid of even quite tough archers, Leadbelchers are a great ranged unit, they have fire mages who are very tough in melee and incredibly strong cavalry that can pummel pretty much anything. The baseline Ogre Bulls aren't good for much though.

Mercs in ogre camps are totally trash. U can pick only one standard ogre unit T1. This mechanic should be better then ally recruitment, it's terrible at this moment.
