@@LucoreAuto do they make floor patch panels for the Spirit AMX yet? That would make it so much easier to patch than having to make them yourself. Having floors in that thing would make it so much nicer to drive and enjoy than it currently is and think about how much fun your having with it now, it would be a blast having the floors in it!! I’ve heard there’s a shop over around Pataskala that works on old hot rods and race cars that has a fellow that works there that’s as grumpy as Ol’ Oscar but is a fantastic fabricator and welder and maybe you can work out some sort of swap on the labor or something. That made AMC Daze worthwhile in itself !!! Thanks COOP ...

Tell me at least one of the horde of Gremlins there was named Gizmo, Stripe or Mogwai? Haven't seen that many Gremlins in one place ever and that was more than I have personally seen in at least the last 25 years put together! Nice to see the handful of nice AMX's too, that tan or cream one had me wanting to take it home with me. Good inspiration for finishing up your fleet for sure. Definitely find louvers , those looked sick on that white AMX but would look even nicer on your black one. Add a touch of the stripe colors to the edges of the louvers and it would really pop. Thanks for taking us with you, again! First car was a 79 Pinto station wagon... baby dookie green with faux factory wood grain stickers 'woody' style down the sides that were half peeled off... hated that car but it wouldn't die. So I traded it and an old motor bike off for a 78 AMC Matador in near pristine condition a year later. Did not care for the look of that car but it was a beast with a rebuilt and camed 360 and a Dana 44 posi in it. Put new 3 inch exaust on it soon after I got it and other than changing fluids that's all i did to it for 10 years, only sold it because an AMC guy wanted it badly. Traded me a 74 Camaro and $500 cash for it in the parking lot of SIR (Seattle International Raceway)... and eventually that Camaro became my first street car.

Edgewater is a small local track, they give people an easy reasonably inexpensive place to get their feet wet with drag racing. Host lots of test and tunes and low dollar buy in racing. Versus somewhere like a Norwalk for example.

We would hope that maybe your green one will be road worthy by then and can attend. Contact Norm at Team Blitz for details.

How is it that AMC built both the Gremlin and the Pacer? Kind of stupid to build your own competition and split the sales like that. I think the Gremlin wins for which one looks better... even if The Mirthmobile was a Pacer. BTW Jeff Dunham owns two Gremlins, one is a 360 version and the other is the 6 cyl Levis edition. I know there was an AMC released with a 429 between the rails, did they just buy a Ford 385 series 429 and drop it in? As for the exhaust manifolds vs headers.. watch Engine Masters.. it's a massive loss even between shorty headers and manifolds, long tubes drastically increase bottom end torque too. If you're worried about fitment/ground clearance, get someone to make you a Holman/Moody style 4 into 1 where all the tubes are laid in to the collector flat side by side. Like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6DRmqangbShjtE Aren't AMC V8's just like Pontiac and the Buick Nailhead in that they all are the same block, just machined to receive bigger pistons/to clear longer stroke cranks?
@johnchildress67172 жыл бұрын
Maybe someone will chime in.I was told the deck height was all that changed the ci.
@jaratt852 жыл бұрын
@@johnchildress6717 deck height doesn't matter unless the bore and stroke changed. The 351W and 351C have different deck heights but the same bore and stroke so they are the same size. The funny part is the 351W actually has a higher deck height despite being the smaller engine, 9.503 vs 9.206 on the Cleveland.
@mpetersen62 жыл бұрын
All AMC V-8 blocks (Gen l, ll and lll) have the same bore spacing. 4.750"*. The Gen l is a totally different animal. Built in 250, 287 and 327 CID. And heavy as hell. Reynolds cast some aluminum blocks as a demonstration around 1960. Some are still around. The Gen ll/ll all use the same motor mounts. The big difference between them is deck height. And yes to achieve different displacement its the bore and stroke that change. 290 & 304, 3.750 bore. 343/360, 4.80. 390/401, 4.1875 iirc. 290 & 343 3.280 stroke. 304 & 360 3.340 stroke. 390 & 401 cranks will not fit in the other block because the mains are bigger. Also 390/401 and the Special Service Blocks (390/401 cores with 360 cast dimensions on the bores will accept 4 bolt mains. Forged cranks were an option in the 343. Standard on the 390/401. Not sure on the 360. AMC never built a 429 from the factory. The 390/401 can go that big or bigger. Supposedly there were plans for a version around 464 CID. Emissions and the insurance rates killed that. The rarest Gen ll/lll blocks are the aluminum version cast strictly for race applications. There was a solid block and a water jacketed version. The water jacket also had a much lower deck height (around 1 inch). Meant for use in Indy/CART racing. At one time an Eagle chassis with the AMC held the record for fastest lap ever recorded in champ car racing. Set at Texas Speedway. Theres an individual on the net and KZbin that is building a Gen l 327 into something well over 430 CID. There was a dealer in SoCal that was putting 327s into 64 and 65 Americans. They also sponsored a 64 American with a plus 400 CID Gen l. The 2 and 4 barrel 327s where actually different castings eith the 4 barrel having z heavier bottom end. *the only other block with a 4.75 bore space is the Buick that I know of.
