The National Park is set in the Snake Mountains in a remote corner of the 200,000 square mile wilderness named the Great Nevada Basin,
This National Park is a wild, exhilarating place, boasting not only the highest mountain in Nevada namely Wheeler Peak at 13,000 feet elevation, but also the only Glacier in the State.
In this video Pat ans I hike the high altitude loop trail. From the trail-head at 10,000 feet elevation the trail climbs up through the forest to Stella sub alpine lake at 10,400 feet situated in a fantastic setting below Wheeler Peak.
Leaving Stella Lake it's onward to Teresa Lake at 10,275 feet before climbing steeply up to the Bristlecone Pine Grove at 10,700 feet elevation.
A number of the Bristlecone Pines in the grove are the oldest living trees on the planet at between 300,000 and 500,000 years old
