I remember attending my second GBBF, way back in 2012. At the time, I was a big fan of Brains beers, and tried their Barry Island IPA. I noticed it was a collaboration with Simon Martin, but I had no idea who Simon Martin was. Fast forward a number of years, and I discover your KZbin channel by pure coincidence!! 🙂

Few years since I've been at a beer festival. Tend to go for the first session and drink 3rds. That way I can stick to my 4 pint limit yet still have 12 different beers.

Last went about 10 years ago, great to see it expanding and still going. I was pissed by the end, rightly so, buying chilli scratchings and pork pies. I hope the festival goes on for many more years. Love to go back, as when I visited I just went for the laugh and to have a few beers. As I've got older, to go back, I'd appreciate it a lot more.

Wish I was there. First went when it was at the Alexandra Palace in the late seventies before the fire. Unfortunately, I can't afford both the GBBF and Peterborough Beer Festival in a couple of weeks time. Always nice to try a beer you can't usually get locally, which today where I am, means most darker ales? I see even St Austell didn't have any HSD, mainly the popular pale hoppy things?
@agdewey

They had Hicks on last year, as I made sure to have a pint of it! I'm getting burnt out from all the hoppy pale ales, so often go for darker beers these days.

Forty plus years ago it was pretty good, similar to Ruddles County before that was destroyed. Many of my local pubs had decent Abbot direct from the cask. What they do for these festivals today is "cheat" and make a one off batch or two from scratch. A few year ago GK did the same at the GBBF with their IPA, Instead of the usual hop pellets or extracts etc....normally used in mass brews, they used the proper ingredients and it was pretty decent, even tasting the way I remember it did back in the seventies from the St Edmunds brewery? Not the Biggleswade GK IPA though, that was still rubbish, even back then before it closed! BTW. Greene King XX Mild is still very good from the barrel. Very hard beer to find though and we're only a few miles to the west of Suffolk.

Not overpriced ? That menu shown around 14:20 is advertising beers for £18 for a small bottle or £14 per can, so for a good day's drinking you will easily burn through two or three hundred quid. For the same money you could fly to Amsterdam, stay in a hotel and sample some of the finest Dutch and Belgian beers, get wasted and fly home. Just saying..

You should give our festivals and real ales a try? Remembering British lager type beers are usually dreadful? My German mates are coming over in a couple of weeks for "beer crawls" of Norwich, London and the Peterborough Beer festival (the largest here under canvas here). I'll probably do Düsseldorf and maybe Franconia again next year, if I can get away from the mother-in-law in Moers.

You walked past me on Tuesday. I nodded and you said hello which was nice. After many years attending GBBF I think I might give it a miss from now on. I like the keg and foreign beer bars, but the regional real ale bars done by alphabet have gone down from seven or eight to five. It is supposed to be a real ale festival. The number of food stands must have halved. I'm sure we all have our favourites from just recently but now the crusty pie co has three, all selling the same stuff, and the greek stand has two, leaving about another five. I know there is(still)building work and space is reduced, but a lot of the space where there used to be beer and food stalls is now just wasted. I'm sure they will say that when the work is complete it will go back to being a proper real ale festival again, but it won't. It never does. This is Britain.
