My husband used to buy these from Home Depot all the time for about $3. Once I found them at the DT we've been using them ever since and they work just as well.

Damprid is made with calcium chloride crystals. You can youtube search and find videos on how make your own damprid/damptrap etc. carbon.activated charcoal is used for odors. It absorbs odors much better than baking soda. That is why it is used in fish tank filters to clean water. The sponge part cleans the water and the charcoal kills odours. Water filters like Brita, use charcoal also. Anyway you can buy calcium chloride or you can make it from following the youtube videos on how to do that. Also silica crystals can be used. You know those 'Do not eat" tiny packets they put in a lot items and product you buy. That is to absorb moisture. You can buy silica gel or crystals. You can also buy it easily in the form of cat litter. It is used by those who do not like clay based or clumping traditional cat litter, so now there is silica cat litter. And of course the easiest way to get activated charcoal is from a pet shop or a place that sells fish and fish tanks and stuff. I used to buy mine in a big carton at Walmart to use for my fish tanks and for the house. I hope this helps you out on how to make your own dehumidifying container. I know the ones in the dollar store are cheap, but every dollar adds up. when you buy the package of the ingredients and make it yourself, chances are you will have enough to make several in the sizes you want far cheaper than constantly re buying the dollar store ones. You would have to compare and see. For example that is why I got a bread maker and make my own bread. A few dollars for the ingredients that will make many loaves versus a few dollars for one or two loaves at the grocery store.

I definitely won't be making the moisture traps lol ...but absolutely asked for a bread maker this Christmas. Homemade just tastes incredible too. 👏🏿

Thanks for the great very well done and helpful video. I appreciate you saying to put them higher up in the closets, because I was putting them on the floor and they still work. However perhaps they will work better higher up in different uses and locations. Just to be safe I will put some on the floor and also higher up wherever I can. I remember just about a month ago I bought 30 of these called DAMP TRAP which are almost identical to your 'Moisture eliminator' with the blue plastic trim. The active ingredient is 'Calcium chloride', which is also the active ingredient in the 'Damp Check' more expensive moisture absorbent that are refillable and hold more calcium chloride and cost more money. I even put them in my car under the seats and in the trunk as I have a leak in the front drivers floor of my car and also a leak in the truck and both I haven't found yet where the water comes out.

I'll never forget putting one of these in my former roommate's closet and that bad odor disappearing right afterwards. These things are great. I'm a life-time fan.

omg I love these my mommy an I have been using these forever ! God done called mommy home 5 years ago . But she an I started buying them at dollar General before we had a dollar tree , back in 1987 an we had to pay $2.50 for them an when we found them at the dollar tree we bought them up like crazy ! So they do so there job that is for sure ! Thanks for helping me remember a blessed memory of my Mommy an I going shopping!

P.S. When I weekly check my moisture absorbents I also check to see is any are cracked and leaking because I had one that was leaking and it was a real SOB, difficult to clean them up because the liquid inside is slippery and not easy to wipe up as it leaves a lot of residue when they crack and leak.

I just bought one of these damp traps and i set it on the highest cabinet in my bathroom. Its been there about two months. The first week it captured some water but now the water level remains the same and the white particles are soaked in water but the moisture doestn drain to the lower part of the container why is that?

So tell me why I was at Dollar Tree picking up an order of these little clear acrylic drawers (they nest together so you can stack up a bunch.) so you know I had to wander the store since I was there. I stopped for a mesh laundry bag and out of the corner of my eye... BAM! they had 4 unopened cases of these, plus a half full case on top. I only saw the charcoal kind. I got two. Ima try em out and see if I get similar results to yours. Your channel name is right... cus Sonya, you be ON IT. 💖
