All of these are great tips, but I really like the first one. This is something that has bothered me in the past with games I played, where some players would dominate the social encounters because they would blurt out their reply to the DM's setup of the encounter. The rest of the party ended up having little to do. I wanted to ensure that doesn't happen in my games so I would go around the table asking what each player wanted to do or how to they respond to the circumstances. Rolling initiative is a much better way to handle that.

Right, the characters don’t forget things because in game it was only a minute as in real life it was a month. Yes feedback is helpful. Good points

This is similar to the logic I use for when my players want to take a moment in combat to strategize. The players might only once a month to play together but for any party that has adventured together for any amount of time, has probably become rather intimate with one another’s abilities as they spend weeks travelling and fighting together.

Something I enjoy as a DM is making a member of the party myself. I’ll either make an NPC and give it a mundane stat block to use or even make a character myself who is usually behind the party in level. This gives me a guaranteed path to interact with the party even in situations where the party may be alone or away from civilization.

So a DMPC, a thing that is rather contentious at best. You control the world and all the non-players in it. If you are struggling to interact with your PC, you might want to think about your world and what occupies it.

I’m not saying DM NPCs are outright a bad thing, but too often I see other DMs using them as a way to be a player in their own game or worse somewhat heavily handedly steer the party around.

I as a DM want the players to succeed, and will try and help them be the best they can be but I also play their foes, and *they* want to beat the PC's ... and I will also assist them

I know that this video is 1y old, but would like to comment. First of all, great content!!! Second, I have a player that takes forever to take action. During other players turn, this player is paying attention, but not thinking on what to do. Once their turn comes, they need to set themselves and them think for 2-3minutes before taking action. They also have a problem remembering rules. Several times I had to warn them that a ranged attack on an engaged enemy creates and attack of opportunity. After warning them for 3 whole session, I finally let them start the attack and hit them with an attack of opportuntiy that destroed their droid. I felt like an asshole… Any recommendations here?

1:43 before saying what Krog does you ask the other players what they do. Simple
