Delta-V: Rings of Saturn is one of the best games I´ve ever played. There´s another one that many people don´t know about and that is Scavenger SV-4. It is some kind of a spiritual successor of the game Koronis Rift on the 8bit machines of the eighties. As with Delta V it´s one of the best I´ve ever played and I´ve logged hundreds of hours in it. And even with all those hours I haven´t seen everything thing in it. EDIT: Genesis: Alpha One is another fave of mine.

I started back in 1999 with X-Beyond The Frontier, and have played every game in the series. Maybe strange for some people, but I also liked the "black sheep" in the series called X-Rebirth. Some people insist that X3 is the height of these series, but I think X4, with all the expansions, is the best one to date...

Banished Vault looks amazing and somehow never heard of it. Many 1000s of hours in X4 (and X3 (and X2)) I do recommend them if you like that sort of thing.

I like the moody visual style of The Banished Vault. Sounds like a very complicated board game, though!

It is a huge time sink. Over the years I've found it a lot easier to walk away from but those initial 100s of hours figuring out the game are hard to give up.

@@adamantiumreaver4283 It is a very steep learning curve. Just try to remember that your first time really shouldn't be your first long-term game. Try everything, watch some videos to get inspired. Look up the various ways to make money. Look up the plotlines and how they affect gameplay. You really can't spoil the game very much because the plotlines, about 1/2 of them, well they require a lot of trial and error and not accidentally missing them altogether. A large part of the enjoyment of the game is learning the game, so make sure to do that part in a way that is fun for you.

▲V Rings of Saturn is a great game that plays very well on a Steam Deck. The only negative on the Deck is the smaller screen. It can make combat difficult because ships can be firing at you off screen. It is a great game that more people should try out.

A lot of good choices except I feel for Genesis Alpha One. Game is "finished" but yet feels unfinished. It was developed by a group called Radiation Blue and published by Team 17. Sadly however the game is not being patched or worked on at all so any bugs you get you're SOL. There's been no updates or changes since 2020 and doubtful it'll ever see any update as it doesn't look like Radiation Blue even operate anymore as GAO is their only title.

First second of the footage I knew it wasn't gonna be great. Got that "stock Unreal" look to it. Sure some games can be great, but most with that look are from amateur devs learning programming who don't know how to utilize the engine and it drags the entire experience down.

I don't know about anyone else, but I found Exo One somewhat creepy on some planets. It really induced some strange emotions leaning towards the anxiety / fear side of the spectrum. The planet that was a giant ocean world was probably the worst for me. I have no fear of water, I'm often going out boating / fishing as I live on the coast. Something about that world a few after it got the emotions going.

I love Stellaris but it should be said: While the base game might be cheap right now, take a look at how much DLC it has before you decide. Some of the DLC adds what I consider to be essential gameplay, and they've rarely sold it at much of a discount. The current sale might be the cheapest I've seen some of them, but that's not me telling you to buy everything now

I love x4 but i found it a very steep learning curve. So much so i spent more time watching guides than i did playing it. Pronlem with it aswell is i find everytime i take a break from it, the learning curve makes me have to learn the game every time.

Rings of Saturn has a very active dev... Hardly a week goes buy without a game patch. Love Everspace. Not a fan of Everspace II Space Reign is worth a look too. I just wish I had more spare time to play all the games.

Genesis Alpha One is a great half-game. But it gets *VERY* samey very fast. It's an excellent idea, a great proof-of-concept, but there's just not enough game there to me. =-\ I'm glad I got it for free, but I certainly wouldn't suggest anyone pay more than like $5 for it. Especially given the EGS exclusivity.

Everspace 2 looks amazing. It's exactly what I've been looking for in a space game for a long time. An almost Freelancer style game but with a little more RPG depth

You have a storyline of missions, and then lots of side missions you can get to complete, and plenty of time to go wherever you want inbetween. It's a gorgeous game with fantastic space combat. All that said, I don't really think it's like Freelancer. But it's still good!

I hated Everspace 1. It took forever to reach the end.... then you get sent back to the beginning and have to start all over again. You don't get much of a boost at the beginning for all your hard work. Maybe I just don't understand Roguelikes, but Everspace 2 is way more my jam, as you progress you don't have to worry about losing everything, you feel like you're actually getting stronger and making headway

The longer you leave the game, the more DLC's are added. This makes the subscription actually worth it, especially considering that the DLC prices have increased over time. Dedicate a month to play Stellaris again, get the subscription play the hell out of it that month. Unsubscribe, repeat in 12 to 18 months for even better value.

Genesis alpha one looks lovely but its systems do not come together for me, it feels like bulk of the content is simply not there (i played about 7ish hours) its focus seems to be on restrictive farming so taking worst parts of NMS and slapping on restrictions. no hard counters for various things are avalable and some of the cleaning of ship infestation i do not comprehend (sometimes the "undergroth" lets call it can not be killed no matter what i shoot it with. If GA1 could be taken as basis or platform to work off of i think it would have potential to become magnifficent in hands of people dedicated to space games but alas... it is in its sorry state apparently since it initially released and barely any changes were made if any at all. Man i want to know how to mod games purely so that i can fix this one... the aesthetic looks so compelling and problems relatively simple to fix. I also wonder if endless sky would qualify it plays fun it seems very nippy and dose appear to have depth, here i only spent mere 4 hours ingame so i my be anticipating too much from its content tho.
