Great Glen Way #3 - Kind of Embarrassing

A fantastic friendship formed at the Great Glen Hostel puts me in high spirits as Sundance and I head out for another day on the Way. I postulate on the meaning of town names in Scotland and enjoy the sights around me, that is until we stumble across the River Garry twice and find ourselves back where earlier we had been. How so? Yeah, blindly bumbling through the diversions of the way with out map …sigh. but it’s still a beauty of a walk.

the other plant, looks like gorse, is Broom. same family both peas. lacks the coconut aroma of the gorse though

The mysterious Loch Ness ❤🦕 The prickly pine Gorse look-a-like is called Broom, if I’m identifying it correctly. Hedgerows in Spring have glorious flowers, purples and yellows seem to go nicely together. 😊 And correct Huck, Inver means “meeting of the waters”

Tons to look at there! I don't think the detour was that big of a deal - nothing to be embarrassed about, I'm sure you meant to go that way :). Lots of flowers! The yellow shrub (non-Gorse) is Scotch Broom (Cytisus scoparius) - it's invasive in Scotland so you'll probably see more of it! It's in the bean family! You can see tiny beans on the plant when you move in close-up at 2:40. At 3:40 it looks to be a wild white rose (Rosa species.) at 3:45 the yellow cup like flower is a Welsh poppy (Papaver cambricum L.) which is a native plant that prefers damp, rocky sites . At 3:49 it looks like the tiny blue flowers are Forget-Me-Nots of some type (Myosotis species) and the big blue one at 3:55 is a bachelor button! (Centaurea species). Moving on to 3:59 you found some Common Comfrey (Symphytum officinale L.) a plant in the borage family that has some medicinal qualities. The beautiful purple one at 4:14 is Columbine! It sort of looks like those all may have been planted on that hillside as a garden! I suspect you may see more Welsh poppy and Broom for sure! Thanks for explaining Inver as well!

All the different flowers on your hike are amazing. In the states, everyone walks to the right; on stairs, sidewalks, etc. Do the people walk on the left side? Inquiring minds want to know. Get after it Huck and Sundance. Jerry R
