2:09 - " is just the cool-sounding name Sega gave to their Master System cartridges." It may have started that way... I'm unsure... but this definitely wasn't the case across the range, where it usually referred to the size of the cartridge itself. So "The Mega Cartridge" or "The One-Mega Cartridge" (As in Fantasy Zone: The Maze) meant it held 1 megabit of data, "The Two-Mega cartridge" (like Space Harrier) meant it held 2 megabits, and "The Four-Mega Cartridge" (like After Burner) meant it held 4 megabits - there were, as far as I know, never any 1 megabyte (8 megabit) or larger Master System carts. Great Golf, was, indeed, 1 megabit, so the pattern matches here. Some games just said "The Sega cartridge" , which generally meant they were under a megabit in size - My Hero (which had this) was only about 32 kilobytes! Later on, a lot of games dropped the subtitle altogether, presumably alongside Sega loosening their stylistic guidelines on cases in general.
@WhatHoSnorkers3 жыл бұрын
That's good to know! In recent years I've heard about new cartridges having more memory on them but wasn't sure if it was a thing back in the day... now I know that the "Mega" thing makes sense. Sneaky that it's bits not bytes :)

I assume max 330 mega on the neo geo bootup means the same thing?
@AdrianWoodUK5 күн бұрын
@@googaagoogaa12345678 Yup! The system was originally designed to handle carts of up to 330 Megabits. Some games exceeded that using "bank switching" (basically, splitting the data of the game into chunks of less than 330mb and swapping between them as needed), and apparently they could change the bootup sequence accordingly.

I actually played golf for a bit in the '90s. My thinking was that eccentric rock stars, presidents of the United States and captains of industry all played it, so maybe if I tried it, I'd be that successful. Just sold my clubs on Ebay. It was surprisingly hard. To sell the clubs, I mean. Not golf. Except, golf is hard. I was crap at it.

Talking about getting hit by a golf ball, there is a game where that happens. It’s the first stage of Ninja Rabbits, a rather obscure and not so good budget game for various systems such as the C64. I’ve got the MS DOS version, it was hard to avoid the golf balls.
@dogeymon833 жыл бұрын
You have to hit the meter at the right time versus just setting the bar how you want cuz……that’s more true to how the sport is played. I don’t program a robot to take the shot in real life so I can’t program a game the same. Otherwise I’m just gonna set it perfect every time and it won’t be a challenge.

I want to say that I rented Great Golf once around the same time that my late father got a totally legit and not a copied floppy (wink wink) version of World Class Leader Board for PC with relatively crystal clear digitized voices even through our non-sound card-expanded IBM PS/2 internal speaker courtesy of Access Software's "RealSound". I'm not exactly sure if this was the case (we had the Sega Master System at least a year before we got the PS/2 computer) but, even if I had played Great Golf some time earlier (not sure), obviously, World Class Leader Board blew Great Golf out of the water, both graphically and gameplay-wise (plus the RealSound audio but I already mentioned that, although the Sega Master System should have at least sounded better than an IBM PS/2 without a sound card). The Sega Master System port of Electronic Arts' PGA Tour Golf looks amazing in comparison, not as good as World Class Leader Board but that was running on a proper computer.
