In Episode #124, we start out in the rain from Carillon Lock and travel along the Ottawa River past Montebello. We enjoyed a peaceful anchorage near Clarence Island. Here we were staging for an early departure to get to the bottom of the flight of 8 locks to start the Rideau Canal in Ottawa.

Great Video. So interesting to see how the shoreline of the Ottawa river has changed over time. Back in the day (for me at least) it was mostly farms. Looking forward to your Rideau Canal cruise.

The music was fantastic as usual. The cruise was smooth and the lock was an engineering fear. 65 feet of water behind a gate would cause me to worry a little. Enjoy

How much current was there in the Ottawa between the Carillon Dam and Ottawa?

Hi CaptJohn, at the time we cruised this part of the canal (first week of June), there was less than 1 knot of current against us. In the previous 2 weeks it was more significant due to spring run-off. Parks Canada kept the Carillon Lock closed until it settled down. Thanks for watching!😎
