I didn't get why Mike Myers was a bad casting choice. I know I am not an english speaker but I found him to be true to the tone of the movie, he plays a Tarantino's character and probably he was directed by him to act as he did, so if Myers was sounding like Austin Powers probably was intended to be so.
@NekoHibaCosplay6 жыл бұрын
Yep, knowing that he is Canadian and his Austin Powers brit accent was overacted for the sake of the parody I still caught that was pretty flawless so I didn't understood that statement of "watered down Austin Powers"

He actually does a much more convincing British accent in Inglorious Basterds than he did as Austin Powers, much as his Shrek voice is a more convincing Scottish accent than the one he did as Fat Bastard.
@MIKELIN86 жыл бұрын
Of course he was supposed to have a hint of Austin Powers in his character. Tarantino is a huge pop-culture fan, and he probably will come out with the idea that Gen. Fenech was intended to be Austin's real father through an affair with a waitress who, then married Nigel to give her pregnancy legitimacy. lol

Myers sounds and acts a lot like the sort of character he is playing is portrayed in British war films of the 50s. Which is probably what he and Tarantino were going for, and that is what I got out it. It completely works with the context of the film.

Mike Myers' scene in Inglorious Bastards is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It's a tongue in cheek movie not meant to be taken as a serious drama. I see no issue with the casting, and I loved his slightly comedic performance.

"Christopher Nolan has clearly had some trouble casting female roles" Me: Have you seen Inception? Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page nail their roles. I will agree that Charlie Hunnam was not the best choice to play Rayleigh in Pacific Rim, there are many other better actors who could've done a better job, but Hunnam wasn't that bad and I think he did have good chemistry with co-star Rinko Kikuchi
@dorothysargasso55856 жыл бұрын
I actually think that Charlie Hunnam was not great, but that might be part of what I enjoyed about Pacific Rim. It felt refreshing to have the main character portrayed as a good guy with a somewhat average personality. To me he was charismatic, capable, relateable, all the while not trying to steal the show or focus the plot around him. It let the other characters and the plot breath.

We can happily debate that, but I'd say he didn't ruin the movie - not by a long shot. The film would have been much better and gotten more attention with an A-list actor, for sure, but he wasn't awful. Not great, of course, but not awful at all.

Tom Cruise definitely did not want Holmes in the Batman films. If Nolan didn't want her either I don't know why the producers did. What memorable role had she done then or afterwards? But I didn't love Maggie Gyllenhall as Rachel. By then she knew his secret life yet she was such a hard-ass in TDK when it came to Bruce. I don’t think Katie Holmes was bad in Batman Begins. I thought she did a fine job. I wasn’t all that fond of Maggie Gyllenhaal taking over the role. There was a sort of innocence that Holmes brought to the character which seemed to fit the character due to the situations she got herself in. Rachel is in over her head to a degree in Batman Begins. I felt Gyllenhaal was lacking the innocence aspect of the character in The Dark Knight, granted that also could attribute to the way the character was written in The Dark Knight. Also, Gyllenhaal seemed to have the same expression on her face a lot of the time to me and rarely changed expressions unless it was very specific that Rachel had to be scared in a scene or something along those lines, where Holmes seemed to be able to express more emotions than Gyllenhaal. That’s just me though. I don’t hate Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight, she was just the weakest part of the film for me.
@CookiesOnaMilkyRiver6 жыл бұрын
Katie Holmes got replaced because Tom Cruise is a psychopath & didn’t want her to be kissing Christian Bale. Also Scarlett Johansson was not bad at all in The Prestige that is why you didn’t show a single clip of her not nailing the part.
@steprockmedia6 жыл бұрын
Really? I thought she was pregnant?
@blkbelt426 жыл бұрын
The real reason Kate Holmes was replaced is that Christopher Nolen never wanted to cast her in the first place. The producers made him because she was on Dawson's Creek and had "star power". Christopher Nolen was still an up and coming director who didn't have the leverage to say no. But he did have that leverage after the success of Batman Begins and demanded he cast his first choice Maggie Gyllenhaal, in the Dark Knight.
@alysiamerdavid-wasser91656 жыл бұрын
CookiesOnaMilkyRiver i think it was the Cruise thing, too. i also posted the same thing abt the missing clip, before realizing BOTH were missing, which probably means that Nolan charges more for legal use of his footage for "non-edu fair right use" than Looper will pay. They're both Nolan films..
@CookiesOnaMilkyRiver6 жыл бұрын
Alysia Mer David-Wasser You got it buddy only real fans know that it was because of Tom Cruise being a control freak. Nolan had plenty of leverage he has made perfect movies before TDK trilogy such as Following, Memento, Insomnia, & The Prestige.

The only star power Katie Holmes had when she was cast in 'Batman Begins' was being Mrs Tom Cruise.

Got to disagree on the Nolan entries here. Scarlett did a fine job in the Prestige, and while Maggie is clearly a better actor than Katie, i much prefer Katie's performance as Rachel. She makes her optimistic and relatable, Maggie is just too serious and intense an actor to connect with

'Argo' is wildly overrated as well. I recently watched it again and the best I can say is that it's an adequately made movie with nothing really special or memorable in it. I think the only reason it got any attention was because it was Ben Affleck's make or break project and if it bombed, his career would be over. It turned out to be a decent film but due to extremely low expectations, Hollywood blew it up into something great. I bet if the exact same film had been made by say Billy Crudup or some other actor of about Affleck's age, no one would have paid it much attention.

The Hollywood ELITISTS hate anything war related or patriotic (that is unless it bashes America). Seriously. When was the LAST time a movie where the American military are the good guys WON at the academy. The Academy is packed with social justice ultra liberals and marxists who literally hate America (or at least America's traditions and culture). The last time a 'war movie' won, it was Platoon and despite being a great film, it still portrayed the American military as inept, corrupt and exploitive ( which worked for the movie, but also gave the leftists 'cover' for voting for it).

Low hanging fruit but I have to go with Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. That did not work on any level. I could also pick Natalie Portman as Padme Amidala and Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu from the same movies. All three actors were horribly miscast. All three were selected based on what they look like rather than the characters they were able to portray.

@eddiejc16 жыл бұрын
By "Revenge Of The Sith", the acting of both Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson had improved considerably. So did most of the cast that had starred in Episode I----with one notable exception, and that was Hayden Christensen. All three movies were flawed, but you needed a good actor in the lead role for Episodes II & III as Anakin, and George Lucas whiffed. (In hindsight, Lucas was VERY luck to get Mark Hamill for the original trilogy.)

Unbelievable that Looper didn't mention Sofia Coppola. The ultimate in nepotism casting his own daughter when Winona Ryder couldn't do the role. Casting a rank amateur in such a pivotal part, she turned every scene she was in into a wince inducing horror show. Poor Andy Garcia who had to act opposite her. How Looper didn't include her as #1 on this list is unfathomable. Imagine how the movie would have been so much better if Winona was cast instead of her.
